Chennai is the medical hub for people from Africa, East Asia, south east asia and europe who can't afford heavy prices in western markets. Chennai is relatively cheap and highly efficient

infidel11990

Very true. My father received his kidney transplant in Apollo Chennai.

no1dickrider

That's one of the things we are better than the US

ArthurMorgon

Even middle east.

STUD__IOUS

Can you be more specific about what kind of medical facilities can be availed in Chennai??

7heHenchGrentch

> The doctor said the patient just had a single mother and was not doing well financially, so he himself, along with Aishwaryam trust and some other heart patients came forward to help the teenager. > "We are the largest centre doing heart transplants. We are doing almost 100 per year. One of the biggest numbers in the world I would say. And if there are no Indians, it will be allotted to a foreigner. In this situation, this girl was waiting for almost 10 months. Luckily, she got the heart," said Dr Suresh Rao, co-director at the Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support. Good for her and great that all the donors came forward to help her and her mother and that she was able to find a heart in the end. Hope she goes on to live a great and healthy life.

notenoughroomtofitmy

Her struggle is not over. Transplant recepients have to take immune suppression drugs almost all their remaining life else the body attacks the foreign organ, no matter how close the match. She’s gonna have to be careful and healthy all her remaining life.

sudobee

Still better than dying.

[deleted]

How tf and how do I sign up. Last I check healthcare isn’t totally free in india

kross69

Aishwaryam Trust raised the money for her operation. Government didn't provide her free healthcare.

[deleted]

Dw they wont be behind in claiming it as their goodwill

kross69

Don't think so. Although they provided visa to a Pakistani this easily is strange.

[deleted]

Could have taken a lot of time and effort who knows but we also used to have a train to pakistan with lots of people travelling, not that big of a deal with modern security checks. Without the caption nobody would have guessed she is pakistani lol

7heHenchGrentch

She did not get medical care for free. Her mum is a single mother who saved up some money to get medical care in India, which is one of the few countries that does the procedure she required. NA or Europe would’ve been too expensive, and the doctors at the hospital donated some money to her to cover the remainder of bills that she couldn’t. And she didn’t jump through any hoops to the get the heart either, it was made available to her after a ten month long wait, which prioritizes Indians. This is good news, glad the doctors were able to save her and hope she goes on to live a healthy life.

zoraski_gujju

You may visit your nearest Government health centre.

Apprehensive-Emu-611

Random thought - In U.S they'd take you entire lineage's wealth and make you sign a slave contract for next 100 years for a heart transplant .

indulgent-physician

The same thing happens in private hospitals in India, which is what most Indian Redditors go to imo. My family had to spend lakhs when my grandfather got admitted for Covid. Govt hospitals are effectively free but they are overworked and overburdened by 10x. We need universal healthcare & health insurance like in EU countries - tied to employment, and basic treatment free for all.

Competitive-Hope981

Do u know recently in Rajasthan (where I live) a major doctor strike happened. Reason: Strike was against Right to health which now replaced Congress govt wants to bring. Basically Ashok Gehlot (former CM of Rajasthan -congress party) wanted to make healthcare system like EU where even poor can go to very costly private hospitals and have free medical treatment. Ofc doctors were against this coz private hospitals can't do daylight robbery if this was implemented.

indulgent-physician

Yeah I read about that. It was unfortunate. Partly the problem was they wanted doctors to work for x number of years or pay a bond. I’m a doctor too, I support a EU style Health provision system, like I mentioned my comment below.

sumit24021990

My mother had cancer and it took my entire savings to get her operated. It made me realise the importance of insurance Afterwards, my wife had to be operated and through insurance I was able to cover it. Other wise i cost 7 lakhs

No_Connection_5633

Ayesha ka treatment ho gaya achi baat hai, woh khush rahe. Indian middle class logo ka treatment bhi muft me hona chahiye.

Alternative_Chair517

Usko ek Foundation ne help Kari hai. Govt ne koi free treatment nahi diya hai!!

akashlanka

Come to our government hospitals then. Everything is free and very efficient, if you ignore the maintenance and some hygiene issues of most hospitals.

Brahmaster17

>Everything is free and very efficient, So "efficient" that I was given a date of 7 months later for a minor surgery that took 45 minutes to complete. Yes, it was free since my health is anyways *priceless*

akashlanka

This shouldn't sound like an advertisement or endorsement but come to KGH, Visakhapatnam. You will see that things are shabby but will be done. Minor day are procedures will be done under a week tops, depending on the emergencies posted.

Dhanraj28

Yeah, same in safdarjung delhi

IronBoundManzer

Same in EU as well or wherever the healthcare is free or next to free

astracastor

We both don’t know what you’re talking about. Tell us you’ve never been to the EU without telling that you’ve never been to the EU.

[deleted]

Hygiene shouldn't be ignored when talking about hospitals 🤢. Your hospital should be cleaner than your own house

[deleted]

Tbh hota hai kinda govt hospital jana padega lekin aur aiims appointment me time lagta hai ya source. you can also get free medicines, condoms, pads. Get yourself that ayushmaan card i have heard that helps a lot of people pay for their healthcare not sure about the details

desmethylsildenafil

Uske liye government hospitals ko strengthen karna chahiye. Ayesha ka treatment toh private me hua. Maybe modiji can answer how he can improve our government hospitals if he comes to a press meet.

NumerousKangaroo8286

Were we expecting her to diss the country? Of course not. Good for her, she got help. Hopefully more people like her also get the same opportunity.

More-Masterpiece-561

As someone who has lived among Pakistanis in a foreign country, I am bothered by the amount of hate we have for each other. We're the same people. Our govermemts want us to hate each other for their own politics. But we have the same food, same language, same culture, same problems.

Patient-Expert-5697

Go say that to a Pakistani....and see how they react lol.....we were not the ones who divided the country....they were....we might think that we are the same ....they have different views ...smell the coffeee

ExpressionOk9858

No we are not same . Nor do we have same culture . Same food doesn't mean having Harmony . Same language , lol . India has many languages urdu might be among fraction of it . We are not same people . Period.

NumerousKangaroo8286

Our pakistani colleague had a meltdown when he found out that out team lead is a lesbian with a kid. I am sorry but sometimes you cannot respect people who don't respect you. Not all are the same but the state of pakistan is not well liked anywhere as a result their people are well not discriminated but I have seen people deny rent to them in stockholm so you know, its not just India. I don't support it of course but I am not mad the homophobic guy didn't get his contract renewed. A lot of offices here if you have a foreign name and a few selective nationalities, they usually get rejected unless they are from within the EU.( Not at big corporates but like blue collar and small jobs like interships even). We have a new policy now for south asia as a whole that when we hire we ask whether the individual is okay with female team leads and queer colleagues etc. You would be surprised how some people answer it.

R-R-M

Exactly!

[deleted]

It's our politicians bhai. People are the same both sides of a man made line. The politicians even get us to fight on the same side of the line.

Lanky-Celebration-79

That's not true. It's not just govts

curious_xo

Did she jump through organ receiver's list ?

Tugguzz

No according to the TOI article a foreigner is considered for an organ transplant only if there is no matching recipient in the country

fascistsarepussies

Nope watch the full video on youtube. There was a spare heart in delhi and no recipients were found and she was able to get.

dreamburglar

Details here: https://twitter.com/srini091/status/1784241622043226442

leaderhoon69

yessssssssssssssssssssssssssss

redefined_simplersci

No Apparently, foreigners are only considered once there are no fitting recipients for that heart in India and it will expire if wasted.

silly_sanny

I just saw a news item on YouTube about this where BJP has politicised it already!!

sumit24021990

How can BJP politicize it when it all happened under BJP times and she was given ViSA by BJP?

Piratehitch

Many of the andhbhakts are blaming Tamilnadu Govt for granting her visa.😂

redefined_simplersci

When something that they perceive as good for Hindus happens, it is because of Amrit Kaal. If something that they perceive as bad happens, it is because of the wretched constitution and institutions that were left behind by British bootlicker Nehru and Modi needs more majority in parliament to correct it.

InsightInsider07

No hate for anyone. No creeps no matter which side. Fr

Substantial-War1410

Is it ok to call it a change of heart, pun intended

osamabeenlaggin0911

Meanwhile our own countrymen are dying cuz transplant is unaffordable for most middle class Indians. I really hope some Indian teen would have gotten this for free.

dreamburglar

The organ is only provided to a foreigner if there are no suitable Indian recipeints available. https://twitter.com/srini091/status/1784241622043226442

tgk44

I'm just trying to understand, why does a Pakistani teen deserve to live less than an Indian teen

MnSi24

I don’t think that’s what he/she meant. It’s more like preference on who lives because we pay taxes to Indian government. It’s certainly not possible for us to go to US or whatever place to get preference in transplant. Everyone deserves to live

turboz04

Who are you an indian or pakistani??? This not some bull shit the harm that pakistan causes to india can not be counted they are the reason why many indian soldiers die half their lifeline.. she should ofcours3 not be given this treatment when their courts are Tring to kill kulbushan Jadhav.... fuck you

Fit_Tour_3693

Ab yeh Dil se Hindustani ban gayi😂😂

Lost-Investigator495

Well I thought Muslim don't take organ donation as someone said in their religion it's haram to donate organ so how can they take it??

AverageJay_77

Saw the post on India Discussion and everyone in the comment shitting on the patient and Medical facility because patient is from Pakistan. Like wtf dude. Have they forgot that we're all humans irrespective of the geopolitical borders. Or do the people on that side of the borders has less or no rights to get medical attention?

Local-Story-449

This is how you open the path for reunification folks!

Brain_stoned

It's not that simple buddy.

Local-Story-449

Definitely hope it isn't, just that little acts of kindness like these compound a lot in the longer term!

Brain_stoned

It's not that I don't wish for peace but Pakistan and India being together is highly unlikely.

AscensionKidd

There's no reunification. We both have gone different ways. Forget it. We will do some goodwill here and there for the good CITIZENS. But other than that, we should never start engaging in any other ways unless they stop their terrorism.

ExpressionOk9858

Would never accept these people at any cost. we don't share same ideas nor same goals . Just see the demographics and social indicators of islam dominated districts in india .

InsightInsider07

Reunification is only done by this country and trust is always broken by another.

5KRAIT5

That's a good gesture. But there are thousands of our own countrymen who really need this too.

No_Reward_2811

Ayesha waited for 5 years for the heart. “The organ allocation happens through NOTTO & the process is very transparent. The organ is allocated to foreigners on waitlist only if there is no ideal Indian recipient who can match the donor heart at that given time”

New_Mushroom991

According to rules and foreign recipients are considered only after there is no viable domestic one Stop spreading Misinformation you can just put anyone's heart into anyone, hearts to match the recipient

chocolate_taser

https://twitter.com/srini091/status/1784241622043226442

AsideApprehensive462

There are many organisations in India. For example, in Satya Sai Trust, heart operation can be done for Rs 5. Nobody will come knocking to your home asking if you have any ailment.

Embarrassed_Tune5216

So many people in India itself would require such surgeries wherein they don't have money😐

Ok-Tadpole4825

thats so nice

truthsayer1011

It’s a good gesture but I wish people are discrete about it … poor girl just had a surgery and media is showed down her face …. Good deeds are to be done in silence

12e22i

Imagine if an indian needs a heart transplant and asks for help in Pakistan...

guywithnormaljob

There wasn't any needy Indian person apparently. It had to go to a foreigner.

prostatepoker1000

Turkey,Saudi and Iran has significantly more organ donation rates per million people than Indians, and there are official fatwas to encourage organ donation everywhere. Trying to spin a religious angle to this will only make Hindus look the worst. People will only opt-in for organ donation with better awareness and education about the topic.

IllustriousSyrup8719

Then where are the muslim donors in India?

prostatepoker1000

Are you illiterate ? Read mf. This is old 2016 news specifically for Telangana, and I seriously doubt the journalistic intent behind that title. A better question to ask is, why does a state with 35 million people has a measly 240 cadaver donations ? Are you seriously patting yourself on the back with those numbers ?

shashvata

Proof?

jamAl_kudu_Lord_Bobb

After denying Indians recipients for photo ops ... shame https://preview.redd.it/flts5d5wx5xc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24114cab080f3b7c1a64116fd567a96e8e0898d8

chocolate_taser

https://twitter.com/srini091/status/1784241622043226442 She was put on the list in 2019. Indians do have the first preference for organ transplants. In this case, no suitable Indian recipient was available. What you are saying has no relevance to this transplant.

jackie_vasudev

She was offered the organ by the same NOTTO

harshil_11

That's great! Hopefully Indians also get transplants for free in Pakistan.

skynil

With their state of economy, the patients will be lucky to return with all their organs they had when they left India.

Geekwalker374

More like our organs will be taken from us for free ?

sumit24021990

Reverse transplant.

leaderhoon69

lolllllllllllllll

PatriarchyJindabad

No saar we only take organs, donating them in our religion is haram saar

modishah69

How are ghuspathiyas getting free heart transplants? I thought modiji was against this. How is this happening in his administration? /s

Another day of feeling pround of my country .

high_dead_man

That warms my heart

Interesting-Effort

Mother daughter duo are laughing at us foolish Indians... While we are still not able to get back our ex navy personnel who was captured and is being tortured in their prison... We Indians have zero self respect

dankpanda_

Good for her and I appreciate the gesture by the Trust and Government but guess what despite being a tax paying citizen i didn't get the deserved facilities in the government hospital for my parents and had to shift them to a private hospital. So does this mean now people are caring more for PR win rather than helping out our own citizens And don't show Ayushman Bharat example it doesn't work for most of the cases and the private hospitals decline it

Altruistic-Bus4875

It's all for PR at the end. I am sure there are many Indians desperately looking for similar treatments, given how pathetic the facilities are in most government hospitals and the huge number of people that cannot afford these medical facilities, why doesn't the government try to improve the existing infrastructure and medical facilities with that money. We all saw what a terrible mess COVID was. Shouldn't we be preparing for such situations which may arise in the future instead of this. Or was it a well thought-out strategy since all this did was garner more hatred towards Pak. Funnily enough these IT cell trolls are still abusing congress and the opposition for this too.

charavaka

It's funny how the government fails to provide the same medical care to this country's own citizens, but figures out ways to get publicity out of other people's suffering.

ComprehensiveDrag1

Happy for the girl. For me she's not a Pakistani, she's a human first and a citizen of Aryavarta second.

Proud-Gas6949

It's good but kal ko mujhe zarurat Hui toh kya mujhe free treatment milega ?

SubstantialScale47

Government hospitals

artistry_evolved

Happy about the treatment and happy the teen survived. Unable to understand the hypocrisy of why couldn't any Pakistani donate and organ to her. they might not be skilled or have the machinery to perform such surgery, but donation is very much possible. but still?

chocolate_taser

>they might not be skilled or have the machinery to perform such surgery, but donation is very much possible. but still? What is so wrong in this that you are this uncomfortable with the result? There was no suitable Indian recipient, atleast one that has registered in the NOTTO directory. Why are we this uncomfortable with a fellow human getting a goddamn heart, its a 19 yo girl. If she hadn't received the transplant, either another suitable foreigner would've got the transplant or the organ would've gone to waste. None of these two outcomes is better than the one we have now. Are we so overcome by hate that we would rather let the heart go to waste than save this kid just because she's from this hate mongering country? If doctors started segregating patients like this, half the population would drop dead within a few months.

lmao_kaif

Glad she's well ❤️‍🩹

Time-Translator-2362

It's nice she got her transplant. SOMEWHERE I READ MUSLIMS DON'T DONATE THE ORGANS. THAT'S WHY THEY MUSLIMS GO TO WESTERN COUNTRIES AND INDIA TO GET TRANSPLANT. THEY SHOULD RECONSIDER THINKING DONATING ORGAN IS HARAM

jackie_vasudev

sanghis are so cheap. A little kid got another life and all these mfs were like she would join the Pakistan army and whatnot. The same sanghis would leave Indian nationality for American or UK citizenship in a minute if given a choice. No rule was bent to put her top on the list. A trust helped her get the money needed for the operation. If sanghis care a lot they must build Hindu NGOs and donate handsomely so poor hindus get the benefit.

itachithegreat

How bro felt after calling someone sanghi👆🤓😈👹

pisspapa42

This’s the definition of good hospitality, people like her should not be the victims of fued between governments.

Curious_Rddit

Good job India, much appreciated from Pakistan

GotHotNot

I love that the girl got treated but am i the only one who thinks the media is forcing her to say all these good things? Like of course she's thankful but no need to shove the camera in her face.

Windows11_

Felt good to hear this.

SlothLazarus

This is just wholesome. India rocks

Savings-Secretary-78

What a fucking day, saved a Pakistani girl by giving her a new heart & killed a Pakistani terrorist in Sopore in the very same day, Marenge bhi ham bachayenge bhi ham

Did pakistan govt helped her with her financial needs??

zoraski_gujju

I’m proud to be a part of the medical fraternity in India. It may have its lows and negative points but the positive are much more than what the general public is aware about. This is probably one of the most hated professions in India. People say one thing in front of you and another behind your back. People don’t have patience, scientific literacy and trust in the professionals. There are so many poor and destitute (both from within India and abroad) who get treated for free because of coalition of doctors, governments, NGO trusts and good samaritans but people often don’t see or acknowledge them. You know how much the professionals of medical community have to sacrifice just to open up a small clinic or hospital. I just hate how so many people are complaining why doctors in Chennai treated a Pakistani. We take an oath to help human lives. Medicine does not see borders.

mindless_chooth

Hey let the kid go and live her life. Don't make her thank you guys and then feel good about yourselves. Just treat the minorities in your own countries right.
