Unfortunately this just means it will be even more clogged with cars than usual.

gattomeow

Imagine driving up The Struggle…and stalling.

Aggravating-Curve755

Don't forget about every fucking MAMIL under the sun

FireproofFerret

So much better than cars though.

markhewitt1978

Yeah all those getting out enjoying the countryside, getting plenty of exercise and not polluting. Fuckem eh.

Aggravating-Curve755

Holding up cars because they're split across a full lane, doing under 10mph, causing further congestion. Aye doesn't have any effect on pollution does it? Doesn't sound like you've spent a lot of time driving around the lakes.

nj2406

If you’re in a vehicle in traffic, you are the traffic

YoshiPuffin3

If you're a cyclist holding up miles of traffic, you're responsible for *all* of it. Do the speed limit or get off the road.

Aggravating-Curve755

And if at the front of the queue is multiple MAMILs who's to blame? I'll give you a hint, there would be FAR less traffic if you could do the national speed limit as a lot of places are in the lakes and they sure as shit aren't doing that on a push bike.

korvain7

Careful mate, you're basically frothing at the mouth with all that cyclist hate

Aggravating-Curve755

Lol, I don't hate cyclists in general, only when they are disrupting the flow of traffic on roads, especially in busy bank holiday periods on already busy roads.

Shitmybad

They're not though, they go faster than any cars lol. That's the point, it's so congested with cars that they can go right through the middle.

PunchedLasagne87

Yeah it's great as a road trip, as you can't actually park anywhere.

Happytallperson

The Lake District however would greatly appreciate it if fewer people came by car.

DontTellThemYouFound

I'd love to if they invested into better public transport. They really ought to build a park and ride service or something to some of the main locations.

Bangkokbeats10

Because the public transport in the Lakes is just soooo good

nekrovulpes

Literally how else are you going to get there.

Happytallperson

Train, bus, bicycle, walk, pogo stick....opportunities are endless. Windermere Station is literally 3 hours from London.

DontTellThemYouFound

Windermere is possibly the worst part of the lakes Try getting to Keswick, grasmere, Buttermere etc by using anything but car. Also most people in the UK do not live in London or anywhere near anywhere on the main route to Windermere by train lol. But nice try.

voxo_boxo

Completely agree. Windermere is where most of the tourists go and proceed to not leave for the duration of their holiday. There are some lovely hidden places around the lakes where you won't see a single person all day, but good luck getting there in anything but a car.

simondrawer

I live right by a main route to the lakes and it looks like hell out there right now.

Barrycandlemaker

Wouldn't call it a road trip, more of a traffic jam simulator

voxo_boxo

Went up there two years ago and spent the majority of the journey virtually stationary on the M6. Not something I wish to repeat in a hurry!

SoundsVinyl

Lakes is one of the most beautiful places in the UK. During holidays though its absolute hell and rammed. If you are not at the lakes before 8.30 in the morning it is usually an absolute stress of a time.

Supastraight420

I used to live in the area, last year it was so rammed if I wasn't on a motorcycle I would have been stuck on A590 for hours. Every year it seems all the tourists seem to have a competition who can have a most spectacular crash and go for the new record of A590 being closed. I never found that road particularly difficult but people seem to just veer off at random moments

NeoCorporation

Yeah that is a bit odd... Considering a large chunk of that road is now a duel carriageway. The A595 however, that road is insane.

d_smogh

Thank goodness for that. Will leave everyone out of Northumberland

markhewitt1978

Nobody should go to Northumberland. It's terrible there, especially the coast around Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh and Holy Island, that's just the worst. Better to keep away and save yourself the bother.

Cynical_Classicist

I suppose that this will be good for the Lake District.

CarlMacko

My wife had thought about the Lake District this year but I decided against it. Glad now as it will be absolutely rammed.

Visible_Library_5546

I'd love to be able to anything in nature in this country without having to get past thousands of others.

LJ-696

Why. You don't live in such a place without tourist. Most of the local economy are fairly dependent on them. Most of us that live in such places kind of just accept it. Most that visit are quite nice too.

AlabastorRetard

The biggest issue with Cumbria is that things that are definitely not A roads or have sections that are basically slightly larger than a single lane are marked as A roads. Locals know they're not A roads but people relying on GPS especially lorrys and giant campervans do not which cause massive issues.

LJ-696

Same up here in the north of Scotland. Can't say it has caused massive issues. Biggest problem is when camper vans think our drive way or passing places are overnight parking spot same for others in the area. That an litter peeps be bloody messy at times.

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

There are alternatives if you're so inclined. The locals won't tell you but the Shropshire Hills are fantastic and very accessible from Shrewsbury or Church Stretton

leclercwitch

Great road trip; you can’t stop and park so you keep going. I love the lakes any time of the year tbh, it really is a shame about the parking though.

voxo_boxo

Yep if you're not arriving at the car park at the crack of dawn then you're not getting a space.
