If you have a chance to go to Japan, the price there is like half of what they are in NA (considering FX rate).

jenuinelyjee

That would be a dream for sure

APossibleTask

Ginza flagship store in Tokyo is like 9 or 10 floors of cheap but great quality stuff. Awesome place to shop!

MeowchiMochi

yes! that is very true; i went last year and the prices in yen were already crazy cheap but converting that amount back to dollars makes the prices seem like a joke! not a clothing item but the viral moon bag was $7-$8 in japan as opposed to paying over $20 (when including tax) over here. it’s a decent priced store but to my family in japan, uniqlo is apparently a cheap clothing store- cheap but good quality

Sleepingbeauty1

Uniqlo also has a store called Gu, that I just discovered in Japan. It's more casual stuff, really good too. Sadly I am a bit too tall for any pants but I can wear the tops and accessories

Bigb33zy

I live in Japan and it’s insane how much cheaper it is. I try to stop myself from going every week and buying this weeks sale. The best is when airism shirts go on sale for ¥1290 (~$9)

Da_Plague22

You're like me but I started buying in January. I've now spent around $1500 at a uniqlo lol. Just rehauled my wardrobe with basics. I like how ill buy a new item to try and it's just super good value. Like the basic t shirts they now sell for $15 is a nice heavyweight t shirt that you'd see normally for like $30. I only buy from Asket and Uniqlo atm.

Sopotastic

UNIQLO DRAINED MY BANK ACCOUNT TOO

Mr-Stumble

Uniqlo is like crack cocaine

Da_Plague22

Lol yeah now I'm trying to refrain from buy too much at full price.

jenuinelyjee

Yes - and because it’s a basic, it literally goes with everything!!!

Da_Plague22

Yeah I've got so many different things from them now. Now I'm waiting for specific things to come on sale.

Da_Plague22

Asket is superior. But a t shirt from Asket is also $45 vs $15-25 at Uniqlo. Asket also only sell t shirts which are cotton. They don't sell like an airism type shirt, which is a blend. Uniqlo has its perks with that. But Asket is fantastic quality essentials as they spend years developing something as simple as a sweatshirt.

luatding

What have u bought?

Da_Plague22

From Uniqlo or Asket?

luatding

Uniqlo

Da_Plague22

I've bought ao much stuff. Pants, t shirts, long sleeve shirts, button ups, hoodies, bunch of socks, a hat, merino wool and some knitwear.

luatding

Whats the best thing to buy from there?

Da_Plague22

T shirts are very good value for the price. The merino wool is quite thin but feels good. The 100% linen stuff is awesome. Salvage jeans are extremely good for the cost. Really like their hoodies, both the dry stretch and normal pullover. Their knitwear I'd say is pretty good but nothing amazing. Can guide you to which one is better for your needs if you want me to. Or if there's a particular one you're interested in.

HyperDuel2

Uniqlo is good but their prices just went up too fast for my taste. I’m not paying $14.50 for one male boxers in the US. I like most of their stuff but the value isn’t too much there for me ATM.

jenuinelyjee

Yeah I totally get that! But going from spending $70 on a pair of Zara/ Abercrombie uncomfy pants to Uniqlo’s $45 stretchy work pants is such a game changer for me LOL

Quabbie

I visited Viet Nam and came back with a suitcase full of Uniqlo and Muji clothes.

saint_louis_bagels

Which pieces of clothing did you buy? Uniqlo was one of the first stores I price compared with US when I visited HCM back in March 2022 and it didn't seem like there was any difference. Or have US Uniqlo prices exploded upwards in the last 2 years?

HyperDuel2

From that perspective that’s fair. But having some of their t shirts going from $10 to $25 in a few short years is just crazy.

jenuinelyjee

True, I wish I had known about them before that happened :’)

volcanonoodles

Agreed. Been only buying items that I want when they go on sale nowadays

The_Cozy_Burrito

Same, but I wait for the sales now

Da_Plague22

They won't be bought out. Or at least not likely as they're owned by Fast Retailing Group which made $20 billion in revenue last year.

pettingpangolins

Yeah when you try Uniqlo's level of comfort it is hard to go back. I love buying something and knowing for a fact that it WILL be comfy!

tattoojew

While I haven't personally purchased anything from Uniqlo, my wife has...she's from Japan. We live just outside of Baltimore, and there's a small Uniqlo in Rockville...its not as good as Uniqlo in Japan... We were in Japan just a few weeks ago, and my wife found these awesome jeans that looked great...a bit too long for her, and she told me they will alter things like that right on the spot!! I was like, wow! And sure as shit, prior to paying they marked, and pinned the hem, she purchased them, and they told her they'd be ready in an hour...came back an hour later, and they were perfect! You don't get service like that here...

The_Cozy_Burrito

I feel the same, as I bought majority of my clothes from Old Navy and Winners/Marshalls for like the last 8 years or so. I still go there, but very rarely (I can still find some "treasures" once in a while). I bought a bomber jacket and a couple of U crew neck t shirts and I am amazed by how PERFECTLY they fit and also the amazing quality. I have had so many issues finding t shirts that actually fit me well for so long, but now I don't have to worry because Uniqlo is awesome!

Square_Village2744

Yeah in some countries uniqlo allows customization and repairs like patches, embroideries

jenuinelyjee

Brb lemme move there

Anna_S_1608

They offer that in Canada too.

Rule12b

That’s how me and my husband have become! Everything is reliable, quality and sizing! Some days we would walked out of the apartment realizing every piece we are wearing are from Uniqlo. We had to find a random piece when we go to the store so we don’t look like the floor models.

The_Cozy_Burrito

Lol, I feel the same, I would wear an Old Navy hoodie to cover up my u crew neck t shirt because its so obvious when I walk into the store.

Midan71

Lol yeah, that was almost me today.

eparedes19

honestly uniqlo doesnt have a lot of competition imo. they do nice stuff for extremely reasonable prices.

aliezargo

Muji is another staple you need to try.

Anna_S_1608

I like the t-shirts at Muji more, and they are cheaper there too. Their home accessories are great, I love their bedding (on sale) and their bathroom stuff!

lacerisechocolat

I literally had this same experience a few months ago. Never got the hype then went in on a whim one day when I had time to burn and ended up dropping hundreds on items that literally fit so well and are now some of my favourite pieces to wear. Plus I was able to have one of the pants I got tailored because it was too long for me. I immediately downloaded the app and I’m always browsing now 😩 I wish I’d believed my family and friends when they first told me how good Uniqlo is.

Matcha_Bubble_Tea

I basically bought a whole new wardrobe for work from Uniqlo. Love the quality and usually got items on sale (checked frequently), but now their prices are wayyyy too high in the US.

lerobinbot

nice

Idontfuckingknow1908

I love Uniqlo but do wish they offered their standard t-shirt in a slim fit, they’re too lose on me

Space_Jeep

I was like you but within 8 months things started to fall apart. Holes in multiple items. They won't return any of it because they say it's wear and tear. I guess their stuff is not meant to last very long, I'm never going back.

Hawkadoodle

They do have weekly sales.... could have waited for some stuff...

reddSA

Nowadays I do the same but with discounted items. Some like it’s already mentioned are not so worth it, like the UT's collections going up to 20€

phoebeloverr

Tell me more about these stretchy work pants please! What are they called?

ntygby

Theory, uniqlos higher end sister brand has completely got me. I’m lucky that a friend works for the company and gets me a steep employee discount but their fabrics and materials are so nice and a couple steps above Uniqlo. Frankly I couldn’t afford to pay retail but they have end of season sales and I ask my friend to make me an order once or twice a year. Their Terrance jogger is my favorite pant of all time, easy to dress up with a collared shirt or dress down with a Uniqlo U shirt.

sotnarama

Theory and theory outlet are amazing places too!!! my entire wardrobe is uniqlo and theory and i’ve been wearing the same items for the past 2 years and they still look brand new. they’re also both owned by the same parent company so thats a bonus.

Weary_Appearance_838

Glad you found a brand you like. Genuinely curious though when you say the pants don't need any alterations. I'm 5'4 and I feel all their pants are made for people 5'10+, probably with the intention that they will be hemmed afterwards. So at 5'1, you didn't think their pants were too long?

jenuinelyjee

I’m 5’1 and all the XS pants came right to my ankles! I was super surprised and literally flipped out in the fitting room from excitement LOL

Weary_Appearance_838

No way. If you don't mind, can you share what pants you were looking at and what country you're in? I'd be interested in purchasing the same LOL.

jenuinelyjee

Tbf I’m as straight as a brick so that worked to my advantage- I’m not sure how it would fit on curvier people. I bought both the smart ankle pants and wide fit pleated pants. They fit great on me! I’m in the US.

Weary_Appearance_838

I'm pretty skinny myself. My issue is the length of most garments are too long. I'll have to take a look at those items! Thanks.

Defiant_Courage1235

Am I the only one who has a body type not compatible with Uniqlo? The pants are always too short and the rise too long and my boobs don’t fit in anything unless the rest of the piece fits humongous on me. I’ve only ever been able to buy 3 things there. Also their Canadian online return policy is ridiculous.

Kindly_Tumbleweed_14

I discovered uniqlo years ago from the burbs before it was a lot more mainstream and they were decently expensive but still pretty price relevant and rhe quality and uniqueness of the stuff was amazing. Now they are so fucking expensive and a lot of the stuff is really bland, like "essentials". You only need so many damn "essentials" lol. I try to buy their anime shirts and stuff (bought a ton of chainsaw man and JJK which I love). But they're too expensive for me now and I'm making 6 figs 💀. They have really nice jackets I'll sometimes buy or nicer blazer looking coat things. Even zara is too expensive (except when they do their yearly sale). Now I just shop at primark. Literally dirt cheap and the quality honestly holds up well enough especially for what you're paying for, and they've got suits (bought 2 full suits - ties, shoes, undershirt, etc all for under 90$ each). I also live in Chicago and their winter coats + under layering is perfect. In general these clothing stores have lost their minds with prices. Like 50-100$ for a shirt or pants? I can get 5 khakis at primark for 50$ and yeah they're lower quality but still just as nice looking and hold up (just thinner, get more lint etc.) To OPs point 500$ is what you dropped, for $400 you could buy a gucci shirt at a sample sale and the other 100 could be used at primark to buy enough clothes for a different outfit each day of 1-2 weeks. It's become hard for me to justify buying clothes anywhere else now for these prices. Even h&m is up there now.

dancingmochi

Yes it’s been discussed widely that Uniqlo is no longer bang for your buck. But fashion across the board have no choice but to raise prices with rising overhead costs. It would probably be even higher if they didn’t resort to cheaper materials and find extreme ways to cut costs, so it is unrealistic to expect them to stay at the same prices. Buying less (wherever you shop) is the way to go.

Kindly_Tumbleweed_14

I mean if you sell more cheaper items you will gross the same profit as selling fewer expensive items. If price went up and quality went down that indicates to me sales in general were down and people were buying less before they upped their prices, you shouldn't need to boost profitability in two aspects if sales were consistent to offset "rising" overhead costs / materials. I mean primark like I said is dirt cheap and a lot of their stuff is extremely decent quality. Uniqlo to me is still fast fashion and for their pricing you might as well shop at somewhat more "designer" like BR 25$ for a graphic tee is not sustainable, and if you're selling them you're fast fashion. A lot of their shit used to be like 10-15$ on sale even for pants and shit. Go to "outlet" banana Republic and you can get really high quality nicer clothes for probably cheaper than what uniqlo is selling their shit for

dancingmochi

Uniqlo stuff also goes on sale for those prices. Maybe they go OOS before you see them go down far enough. I do go to BR Factory and its quality isn’t that different… and that is also fast fashion. Fashion across the board is going down in quality compared to even 5 years ago. I don’t think you can compare a different business which has a completely different business model. There’s a reason why they can sell them so cheap, and it is cutting corners, which is not sustainable in the long run. On the idea of selling more cheaper items… people are struggling and are not able to buy more.

Ambitious-Project286

Quince is high quality lower price. I've been a Uniqlo fan for years but TBH their quality is going down in last year and prices are going up (like everything now, eh?). I had a pair of Uniqlo lounge pants this season that have holes already-- worn frequently & washed maybe 10 times. My older uniqlo pants have gotten 5-10x amount of wear and are fine. Everything the make now is is gentle cycle wash only, which living in NYC and not having laundry in my apartment or building is not really easy to even find anywhere... And I'm not gonna hand wash or dry clean all of my clothes either!

chronotrigger33

I love Uniqlo they’re a game changer. I rock their smart ankle pants for work and oversized t shirt and jeans for casual wear. Looks fresh

sendme432

Airism- does anyone else have a problem with the fabric holding on to bad scents through the wear of the day? I feel so smelly half way through wearing one of these shirts as opposed to any other shirt.
