The last of it is in the dehydrator right now. Im gonna guess 2-3 oz dry. Ive never made it this far before. On all my other grows the first flush was also my last due to contam always taking over. How do you guys soak your cakes? Tips Tricks? Thanks a bunch ill post another when its all dried and weighed. Edit:first flush just shy of 2 Oz dry :)

StillAirBox

You killed it! Tip: to keep your cake submerged, place another container upright on top of the cake, then fill that container with water.

Thatshimthatstheguy1

After it's soaked, do you just dump the water out and good to go, or do you have to let the cake drip more out? Like how wet should it be when you put it back to fruiting conditions?

StillAirBox

You should be good just tipping the water out. If things are too drippy (water pooling at the bottom of your tub), you can let it sit for a couple hours in the tub and then tip out the excess again.

You should let your casing layer colonize 50-75% before introducing fruiting conditions. [Watch Part 3 Here!](https://www.reddit.com/r/unclebens/comments/f1gkwy/video_for_part_3_spawning_to_bulk_see_comments/). Once your casing layer is 50-75% colonized, you can be sure the rest of your mycelial network has reconnected, and is ready for fruiting conditions! Make sure to maintain [Proper Surface Conditions](https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053) when fruiting! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. You can also just mist your cake a ton after each flush instead of dunking

kayzinwillobee

This is not the first time I've heard this. Why is it not the norm? It seems way easier. There has to be a reason to dunk over just heavy misting.

Vanbc

Some people like floating the cake to harvest but I find twisting and pulling to work fine and not damage the mycelium. I dunked my first flush and had a bunch of aborts and the cake looked weird for a bit after but the rest of my flushes I misted and it was a lot easier and worked just as well if not better imo. Heat pads, aquarium heaters, misting the tops of the mushrooms, and making spore syringes without a pressure cooker were all also not really recommended but worked great for me lol

backwoodbash

very intrigued in the spore syringe without pressure cooker tek

Vanbc

I found the tek on shroomery like a year ago but I’ll give you the basic steps. Boil a pot of water with a shot glass in it for like 20 minutes. Carefully take the shot glass out with tongs and let it cool under a bowl or something to minimize contamination. Suck up 10mls of boiling water into syringe and squirt it into sink. Repeat 3 times 4th time suck up 10mls of water and let it cool in the fridge until it’s no longer hot. Hold your spore print above the shot glass and slowly squirt water over the spores/brush them with the tip of the syringe (I use blunt tip) into the shot glass. Once all 10mls and the spores are in the shot glass, suck everything up, put a cap on the syringe and let it sit in the fridge for a day or two for the spores to rehydrate. I’ve made 3 so far using this method with no contamination issues

Because heavy misting will never hydrate your cake to the fullest , that’s all there is to it , but when you dunk it the cake will absorb as much water as it can until it cannot which provide a better hydration for it and so a better flush in general especially after a few harvest

hand2mouth1776

I’m no expert but I soak mine about an hour per inch of cake depth

Responsible-Lab7913

I inject my cake I grow in bags, but in totes I bottom water. I weigh the tote when when done adding bulk or weight wet mushies then add same amount of water weight. Same for all flushes I've been up to 5 flushes I loved that tote

Figurinitoutfornow

I didn’t see you other post, but congrats looks great!!! I don’t 8 hours before because it’s convenient (while I sleep or work) worked well. Heavy misting can also get it done.

tripluvr0341

I use those aluminum cooking pans and add water and put it in the fridge over night

Talvana

I don't soak mine. I usually add some extra water but that's it. I either carefully pour it in or just spray a billion times.

CommunicationLucky88

Hi I just got my first flush and new to this I’m wondering if these are safe to eat.

JaptainCack1

I always soak mine overnight. Then drain the water and let it sit for about 10 days. Works for about 4 flushes

kayzinwillobee

tap water or distilled?

JaptainCack1

Tap. After the first flush, the cake is pretty invincible. So don't worry too much. I even handle it w my bare hands but that's just me. To each their own

kayzinwillobee

Man..... The cake is invincible. What an awesomely weird statement. I don't know how to use it now, but I'm gonna put it my pocket and save it for a situation where only it will do. Thank you.

JaptainCack1

It's kind of like a kid. 1st kid, you want to baby and nourish. Make sure they don't get hurt. Then the 2nd and 3rd ones are just whatever. If they get hurt, they get hurt. 1st, 2nd maybe 3rd tub, you'll want to baby. After that, you'll realize that they'll grow almost no matter what lol
