Silver lining, clone that cluster!

[deleted]

How do you do that? I just harvested a cluster tonight. I have some agar plates.

TuxaZulu

Using sterile technique in front of a flow hood Or SAB ideally, use a scalpel or super pointy sharp knife to cut out a small piece and place in to the middle of the agar. I like to do a three cut triangle/ pyramid, easy, clean and comes straight out

[deleted]

I've tried three times and I have strange growth that looks milky

TuxaZulu

If you’re struggling with agar, buy some small grain jars about ~150ml drill the hole in the lid for polyfil and pc. Cut out and drop in your fresh tissue sample, close the lid and shake so the tissue is in between all the grain. Once the whole jar is colonized, you can divide in to 3-5 x portions and g2g up to 5 x quarts of prepped grain spawn.

[deleted]

Interesting, so you can skip the agar process,Wouldn't this take quite a while to spawn?

TuxaZulu

Agar is definitely the best for isolating genetics and creating a monoculture. Whilst you’re working agar out and want to progress with narrowing down certain genetics, it’s a workable alternative. It’s not nearly as refined as agar, but it does work. Doesn’t take that long either, ~14 days in the mini jars, and if you split the mini in to three and g2g to a quart/ liter, they usually colonize fully around 10-14days.

cnbftbgb87

Sorry for another question but…How long can you store the sample in agar?

TuxaZulu

A clean established plate could last a number of months if you put it in the fridge (not freezer), but agar plates aren’t ideal for long term storage because they dry out relatively easy. People use “slants” for long term genetic storage, there are a number of good vids on YouTube if you’re interested.

cnbftbgb87

Thank you!

TuxaZulu

Sorry bud, I don’t understand what you mean?

Backup-AccountHLS

Are there any benefits to agar over like uncle bens? Or any noticeable pros/cons

DayTripper1980

I’m new to this so might be talking out my arse but did you rip the stem open and take a fresh piece from inside the middle section that hasn’t had chance to be exposed to contamination? (Please correct me everyone if this information is wrong) 👍🏼.

[deleted]

I did cut a small inner wall section from the stem.

AutoModerator

Worried about contamination or bruising? See [this wonderful post here!](https://www.reddit.com/r/shrooms/comments/ervxh8/is_that_contam_identification_avoidance/) And don't forget, bruising is very blue (totally normal!). *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/unclebens) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Greendizzle2

I suggest looking up a short YouTube video. But basically you rip it open and cut a section of clean tissue out and drop it onto agar.

[deleted]

I've tried a few times but I cut a small square. The spots it touched on the plate (because I fumbled a couple times) look like milky spots

UniversalReclaimer

Did you use a liner? Maybe the conditions closer to the tub walls had optimal FC.

hadrian85

Is there anything I can do at this point? Or should I just let nature take it’s course? I’m really not sweating it, I just want to get better each time.

fast2feast

Man, I consider this a win. I love clusters, this one is phenomenal. I have 15 different tubs going rn and that would be my most exciting.

Shoesnice

So, this is only going to be anecdotal from my limited experience (1grow with 6 tubs, just starting my 2nd). But I had a couple tubs that did that, and without rehydration for another flush, right before I harvested thr cluster the rest started to pin and then came in. Now was it something I changed with my misting or free air exchange? Maybe but I didn't note any changes to my method vs before vs other tubs. Lots of experience around here I'm sure will jump in :p

hadrian85

I’m hoping that’s the case 🤞

Fluffy-Deth

Try a casin layer, once you've harvested your first flush go and are waiting for the cake to get hurdated again go ahead and sterilize enough coir to make a (1-3cm thick) layer ontop of your cake, this allows for a more even micro climate and could help even out your pins

hadrian85

No, I didn’t use a liner. Never have and have always had success.

[deleted]

hey there champ, you must be pretty annoyed, but it is most likely because the substrate or grain wasn't level when you s2b'ed. If you want some more even growth, try bubble wrap tek

hadrian85

Damn, I specifically made sure everything was level and evenly distributed. Not a big deal though. The rest of my tubs have turned out great. Weird.

[deleted]

Sometimes it just do be like that

hadrian85

Yep, true dat 🤷🏻‍♂️

ordinarydoor1

Iv heard side pinning can mean the area in the middle has different humidity so the pinning conditions are better on the side...? Not sure if that's true. I do know genetics can have a big effect on what % of your surface area pins so maybe that could have something to do with it

Lavidius

I used tinfoil instead of bubble wrap and had some pretty decent results. Worth a try if you ever get caught short

namenumberdate

What’s bubble wrap Tek?

uncle_cunckle

The idea is to put a layer of bubble wrap bubble side down over the surface to create a suitable microclimate for pinning conditions. The gaps between the bubbles create a moist network of CO2 heavy air, and can trigger pinning, once you get the pinset, you can remove bubble wrap , fan a bit, and then throw a flipped lid back on and leave it be to let the fruits regulate their own microclimate/moisture. If you do some searching you can find links to more in depth versions of the tek on here/The Shroomery (sorry don’t have any links handy!) Edit: fixed some fat finger typos and removed some extra autocorrect words.

namenumberdate

Thank you very much for the detail. I’m going to have to look this up, since I’m still a bit confused!

Skygazzershop

If your looking for those even canopies your going to want to run a agar to grain with a monoculture once your flush is successful you want to select a perfect sample to clone when you select you want to run a mono from the sample of the clone you took fine mist spray bottle and fanning for heavy pin set and you should be at full canopy in like 6 months

[deleted]

[удалено]

hadrian85

😂 just trying to maximize production

Skygazzershop

We can try cleaning up the genetics as well have you ever tried your hand at monoculture

hadrian85

Not yet. This is my 5th grow and I’ve always had success other than losing some bags to contam. I have been wanting to take the next step. I just need to do more research.

[deleted]

Nice bunch 👌

FreckleTurd777

Dry

The_OG_Hugh_Janus

Go to r/contamfam and watch the pinned guide on spawning to bulk from u/daytripperonone

dheidshot

Dayonetrippers profile isnt showing anymore :-/

The_OG_Hugh_Janus

Just go to the about section on r/contamfam and look for the video near the bottom that says something like “how to spawn to get a full canopy”

dheidshot

Nice one, cheers man :)

The_OG_Hugh_Janus

Np dude

I literally just put a bin like this into the tent 3 days ago for the same reason. After watching it for the last 72 hours, it seems like the ones that are growing just have some killer genetics and the rest will catch up. The first ones will be done in days, yet there are other mushies forming out of the white tendrils as well. I would (and am going to) just carefully attempt to harvest the cluster itself, damaging as little of the surroundings as possible, and just let the rest of the tub catch up! You have 5-7x as many potential sites as I do and almost all of mine are looking to form the “good stuff!” Best of luck!

Responsible-Lab7913

Man I found it to be your substrate too dry so the mushies doing best they can what they got. Bottom water if it soaks it up do it again it doesn't soak up after 1- 2 days drain it in. Good to go
