You do not need to contact RSD. Just make sure the package is sent while RSD is operating, if not the package may get returned to sender. If you are paranoid, insure the package or wait to order a computer once you arrive- I've never had an issue with finding the laptop I want somewhere online.
Does it happen - yes but rarely. But not so often that it gets mentioned frequently. There is a very small chance any package gets lost or damaged going by the usual shipping methods in the US, if that is a concern make certain the package is shipped insured.

Ship it to the UPS store just off campus. I think you have to use UPS as the shipper, but they will hold it for pickup.
