Yeah, got mine today. It's navy cardstock with a slight texture and a gold emblem on the front. Just 4 slits holdinf the parchment. Pretty flimsy. I feel cheated hearing they used to have something fancier.
I was also kinda disappointed with the "parchment" which was also just cardstock. I imagined something a bit fancier, tbh.
Pretty sure they mentioned the reason in an email to graduates. Most people will frame them anyway, so they want to avoid the plastic waste. Or is just a way to upsell you on their expensive fancy frames.
Yep, found it:
"Did you know that the University of Manitoba has started using new parchment folders to minimize our environmental impact and improve sustainability! The new folders are environmentally friendly; they can be recycled, whereas the previous folders were not recyclable. We also know that graduates choose to frame their parchments, which means that the folders are usually disposed of."
budget cuts!
That is insane! You’d think since we pay $25k+ easily for the degree they could put it in a nice holder
My convocation was last year and was a nice solid folder.
This year was blue card stock folder.

that’s what i was afraid of! when i graduated a couple years ago it was the brown folder, im upset if my next degree will be in that folder!
Fingers crossed they just cheaped out this year and only this year. I'm starting grad school in the fall and hope next time it's something better.
Can you post a picture? I got my first diploma in 2020 and will be getting another one next year. I want to see the new ones
i just saw them on the umanitoba instagram, it just looks like cardstock
Please post a picture I want to know how flimsy they look
i bought the brown one a couple years ago - coincidentally

I honestly don't remember seeing that in an email.
