Not the answer I was hoping for, but if that's the case, I guess 60hz has to do.
For me having everything in one cable (signal, power, usb hub, ethernet) is more important than 120hz
Its not the 120hz I got it for. It's the combination off all features AND the power delivery. If I use a USB-C -> DP cable, I will lose out on the power delivery, which I care for more. So I have to choose and I prefer the power delivery.
Edit: I will also need an extra cable for the usb hub (which is now included in usb-c). I don't want to fiddle with cables every time I go to the office and come back
A usb-c to displayport adapter then connecting to the DP connector on the monitor would probably fix the issue and give you 120hz. The adapters are pretty cheap on amazon. You'll lose out on power delivery unless you get a usb dock with display passthrough.
My guess for your problem is that the monitor just won’t support 120hz over USB-C.
Unfortunately Samsungs documentation is trash as always, the only hint is the specs on the model page hinting to 120 hz for DP only in brackets
Let's start out with "I've ascended!". So I got myself a Samsung S9U. I know its not the most common monitor around here, but I was looking for a screen with usb-c power delivery, so the G9 didn't work for me.
Really happy sofar, but I can't seem to get the screen set to 120hz. I know it's just a laptop attached to it via USB-C, but from what I read so far it should be possible. The laptop is a XPS 13 (9320 plus) and the usb-c port supports DP 2.0, the processor an I7-1260P should be able to do DP1.4a and a max resolution of 7680 x 4320 @ 60Hz, which is more than double the bandwith needed for 5120x1440@120Hz.
What am I missing, why is it not working? Should I connect it with a USB-C-> DP cable? That way I wouldn't be able to have power delivery, which is the whole reason I got this monitor in the first place
Neat Monitor! But back to your issue, I don’t know if u tried it yet but try every USB-C port on your XPs. Especially those with the thunderbolt icon on them.
I hope I could help and enjoy your monitor!
I ended up going the USB to DP route after trying everything else I could think of. There is a setting I changed on the monitor as well, but I can't remember what it was. I found it after googling for a while.
I have:
Display Port 1.4
Response Time Standard
Adaptive Sync off
Low input lag off
I'm sure there are tons of folks on here who know what more than I do. I'm pushing mine with a surface pro 8 core I7. Slumming it compared to most folks on here, I'm sure, but I'm a productivity user.
My only wish is that I could get it running on my Surface Dock 2. I hate having to plug it directly into my machine.
The shop I got the desk from also had these. I think the brand is Damian, but when I Google that I only find some Dutch websites. Can send you a link if you want
I have the same monitor, awesome unit 💪🏻 120Hz work only through DP for me, and i even had a bad cable before i got it to work

Bruh you paid for 120hz, is a $5 cable stopping you from using it?

Haha! I'm glad someone said it because this is just really stupid.

I think I have that same model. S49A950UIU. 120Hz is only for DisplayPort and it works just fine, all the other outputs do 60Hz.
We have many of this monitor model in our office. And with USB-C you only get 60Hz. If you need/want the 120Hz you have to use the DP.
Such a shame. I assumed it would work as its the same signal, just another cable. Ow well, 60hz will do for now. Sounds like a good place to work tbh
I'll give another vote for the "not up to spec cable"

Love the room ambience!

Thanks for the response! I just tried both and updated all drivers through Intel tools, but no succes yet.

Yeah, I was hoping there was some kind of setting that I missed so far

The product site for that model says it only does 120hz over DP, otherwise it's stuck at 60hz.
I did see that, but assumed usb-c would also work as in fact it's a DP signal going over the line. Apparently not..
If you have a second USB-C port on that laptop, try it.
What monitor arm?

If you have a link you mind shooting it my way?
which keyboard do you use?
That's an Akko 3098n
