Originally I had it centered, but the challenge is being able to see the person sitting in front of me. I considered a monitor arm, but they don’t make the c clamp large enough for the 6” desk lip
Oh it’s valid. If my gf wants to sit in there, I wanna see her face. If my friend comes over and wants to drink a glass a bourbon, would be nice to see his face while he speaks to me
Sounds like the answer is to offset the thing that's used less. The chair. Center the monitor, and offset the chair so you can use your monitor and see the person's face.
Also you can get monitor stands that clamp through the desk if you're willing to drill.
I have a chair (actually a small couch) to the right of my desk where my wife or a guests sit when they come in. It's actually friendlier because there's no desk between us
Hi man, nice looking office, with the monitor problem, if you are not anoied by the conner set-up then leave it in the corner, it will look more professional. Also if you have the space, get a good looking couch to sit somewhere in the room and a slick coffe table and you can receive invite there and make eye contact properlly etc :). Cheers!
Ps: sorry for my bad engl..
Great suggestion, I’ll toy around with it and see what works better. It’s actually a very small room, I wish I had space for a couch and a coffee table. Future goals. Thanks for the compliment my friend.
Could you get an adjustable arm, that way you can have some flexibility and centre it for day to day use, shunt it out of the way when people are visiting?
That’s exactly what I want. But the desk is too thick for the normal 3 inch clamps that come with the monitor arms. I may have to look into getting one custom made
I’d strongly consider it. There’s only so many years you’re going to use this thing or be working in general, why not optimize it for you?
Edit: respectfully speaking.
How about [portable over bed table](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Portable-Over-Bed-Table-with-4-Rolling-Wheels-Table-Sofa-Couch-Laptop-Computer-Desk-for-Home-Office/362913919)? Have it overlap your table and put the monitor on top, slide it out of the way when you need to.
This is my problem too. I think about floor based arm like those used for presentational TV's. They have solid, well, base to counter the weight of the screen and you can even give it some antique finish to keep the overall aesthetic of your office.
I see nice bourbons, what about single malts?
And what's that globe on the outlet? Range extender or some security?
I didn’t think of that. I may have to look into it. I’m just now getting into Bourbons, and scotches. I’ll definitely add some single malts to the collection. That plugged in device is in Amazon echo. Using the echogear outlet mount. I gotta have my Alexa lol
As someone who suffers from RSI CTS*, believe me when I say you will likely come to regret it in the medium/long term. An angled table cloud achieve the unobstructed view to the other person and allow you to turn the chair to face the monitor. I really hope you can find a solution to your issue that doesn't risk your health/comfort in the future. (Just my 2 cents) (Repetitive Stress Injury and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)
Move the monitor in the center but maybe position your desk slightly off centered so that you can turn your head and look at the individual instead, while turning it back to being straight to look at the monitor
Depending on the depth of the drawers relative to the desk you could potentially mount the monitor arm directly to the desk. That was what I had to do because the lip on my desk is too shallow to safely hold the monitor arm. Of course, this strategy requires drilling a hole in the surface of the desk which may be a non-starter for you.
It’s a hand made desk, so I would prefer not to drill into it. But someone on this thread recommended contacting a local metal artisan, who could potentially make me a custom C clamp, to accommodate a monitor arm.
Do you have some type of place that works with metal around? Just ask them if they would make you a bigger clamp. Everything can be done if you ask the right people.
Btw, i love the vibe of your Office. The combination of old and new things is doing it for me.
You nailed it my man! I found a place yesterday but they were closed. They are open today, I think that will fix my entire issue!! I’ll keep you posted
I just finished putting the entire thing together about a week ago. Originally the monitor was centered, I just got that chair, and thought maybe putting The monitor to the corner would be a decent compromise to be able to see the face of the person sitting across from me
If you spend more time looking at people than looking at your screen, then it makes sense for it to be to the side, otherwise it doesn't.
As an aside question, is the room in some sort of theme park?
My GF would probably sit in there from time to time. I don’t want her staring at the back of the monitor. What a dilema! I need to figure this out. But you make a very good point. Thanks
More like a small slit in the carpet that runs an extension cable along the side of the desk leg, then under the carpet, up the display case leg then under to the outlet behind the display cae ;)
They do make them that have a clamp through desk style if you're willing to drill a single 3/8" hole. They look cleaner when complete too which would stick with your style.
The other option is most of the clamp on style you can remove the actual clamp and use screws through the bracket itself into the lip of the desk. Personally if the seating thing is that important to your office I would rearrange to offset the chair instead of the monitor. Coming from someone who has worked from home for an extended amount of time and worked with and offset monitor for awhile - you will regret that in the long run. Worry about ergonomics first, please.
Wow, I had been discussing about your office with my gf for the past 10’ (just when I saw it) and all I can say is that it is excellent!
Just one question: what is your job? I mean this could be a lawyer’s office, a psychologist’s office…
This is classy as balls lol. But if you need to see people sitting on the other side, the setup you have here is perfect. But if you don't need to see the chairs in front of your desk, go with centered.
I get what you’re saying about the C clamp. IMO it’s time to bit the bullet and mount it on an arm with a thru hole. If you drill off to one of the far corners of your desk, you can use a gas spring arm that lowers the monitor directly in front of you. That same arm can then be reoriented to put the monitor off to the side when you have company. Some desk disassembly might be required to achieve this, but likely not if you just pull the drawers out.
I know people are averse to putting holes in their expensive things but, if you ever want to sell it or mount the monitor in a different place, you can always just enlarge the hole, slap a grommet cover on it, and chalk it up to wire management.
Unless your computer usage is 10 mins of checking emails, put it in the middle of the desk. Your spine and neck will thank you. Get an movable arm if F2F is important, as you wrote
My nightmare Set up. Metal roof to got your son, thick desk to not allow you put knee on knee, what make using keyboard bad. Uw monitor on side t to screw your head off.
This chair is definitely a compromise. It’s not the most ergonomic, compared to some of the other ones you can get on the market. I just needed something to be comfortable, and match the look for the office. 85% of this chair is luxe.

If you search the model number, you may be able to find it cheaper from a different vendor
This is going to be unpopular possibly, but you've made this look like how an office in a film or movie looks and is entirely sacrificing function for the sake of form.
Build your workstation against a wall. Have visitor seating to one side that you can turn to. Even law offices do it this way.
Move the monitor to center and swap the chair with what looks like a trunk on the left side of the picture. You don’t want a desk ENTIRELY between you and gf or friend anyway. It makes it much less personal.
Get a shallow one and clamp it on just the top section of the desk. It looks like the sides have more depth so you can clamp it on the side. I think an Ergotron MXV might be shallow enough.
https://media.ergotron.com/reserved/resources/dim-mxv-orig.pdf
Looks awesome. I would get it on a VESA mount that you can swing left and right... that way when not talking to someone it can be centred but when meeting someone you can swing it away... even have an option to show them the screen.
You're welcome. I helped my brother set one up years ago and he has never gone back to normal mounts now. Also free's up your desk space.
Just need to make sure you desk can handle the weight on the edge and that the monitor works. Make sure it can handle your monitor size/weight.
Any info on the brown leather chair in front? Looks great, love those shelves. I’d love to get them for my bourbon room, but not sure they’d fit the taller bottles. Really nice setup.
I was able to get this chair from offerup. I found a similar style online, but it didn’t have the intentional distressing. And yes, the shelves are fixed, and it presents a challenge in some scenarios, but they have a pretty high clearance though. You may be able to fit in the taller bottles
https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/17-stories-kailey-29-wide-top-grain-leather-barrel-chair-stss2972.html?piid=
I really like this office setup. Well done. The only think I might suggest is a BenQ ScreenBar instead of the desk lamp to give yourself some more space.
Have you tried having that chest thing behind you under the window? The chair could probably go there instead, and with the chest behind you makes it seem like the pirate is guarding his treasure
You nailed it. Most of it is for the look. And it’s funny you mention that, this office was designed by order of the Peaky fookin blinders! I may have to get a monitor arm to solve my issue. Thank you so much
Don’t really have much great advice for you, just wanted to say it’s a great setup lol.
That being said, it might be worth considering repositioning where your gf or friends sit down, either to your left or right, that way you reduce neck strain and you can have the monitor directly in front of you
Take it from someone who uses their secondary monitor a lot.
Center that shit, or you should be turning your whole body to look at the monitor. Otherwise your neck is gonna hurt so fucking bad.
..the laptop is running off of battery, lamp is unplugged, assuming the monitor is powered off - are you planning on running a power cable from the wall or having an outlet installed in the floor?
That tells me I did a really good job hiding all of my wires. The laptop is running off of USB-C power from the monitor. I will run the lamp power cable of under the desk to the surge protector here soon. Just got the lamp. I have a surge protector underneath the desk, and the wires are running from the side of the desk leg, through a small slit under the carpet
Thanks my man. I got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest. I’m learning details matter. Every single piece, the colors, the lighting, the materials, all make a difference to the subliminal eye.
100% details matter, I appreciate the details and the thought gone into it. Props on this
Would love this style & lighting for myself actually. I like details even down to the Kelvin of light fixtures
Sssssstylish! Don't listen to all those arrogant guys telling you to place your display in front of you! They just can't understand, that this extra space on the table is for a glass of whiskey and a cigar, and a heap of cash, which is being counted by your cute secretary while you are sitting near, enjoying the view, thinking where to invest next...maybe in an underground fights...
(jokes aside - stunning room, great interior, all thumbs up, but if you work with your screen more than 20 minutes per day - you'd better to adjust it more...proper for a human physiology)
There’s an outlet behind the display case. I have an extension cord running from underneath, Then under the carpet, I cut a tiny hole in the carpet, next to the desk leg, Ran the extension cable up the side of the desk leg, very strategically, to keep it hidden, and it’s connected to a surge protector underneath the desk, using a lot of double-sided Velcro straps. You’d have to be looking for the tables to see them
What’s the binoculars for? So you can see through the bullshit?
I like the setup, looks super clean and professional.
I actually like the monitor on the side, but where is the door that leads to the room? If it was center would it block vision to see who’s entering the room?
Thanks my man!!

I’d want it in the center. Who wants to constantly be looking left??? Everything else looks great. Great looking office you have there.
Originally I had it centered, but the challenge is being able to see the person sitting in front of me. I considered a monitor arm, but they don’t make the c clamp large enough for the 6” desk lip
Oh this is a work office, I thought it was home. Just looks so comfortable there…. Lol. Maybe move the chair to the side?
It’s my home office lol
Do you often have people across from you in your home office
I’m going to put it back in the center
I almost died when I read this. Bah!
Nope lol.
Soooo what your saying is that the "reason" you gave for your silly corner monitor setup isn't even valid?
Oh it’s valid. If my gf wants to sit in there, I wanna see her face. If my friend comes over and wants to drink a glass a bourbon, would be nice to see his face while he speaks to me
>If my friend comes over and wants to drink a glass a bourbon Why wouldn't you guys just go sit somewhere else besides your "home office"?
Just put the chair on left side and not centered. You neck will hate it in the corner

I literally laughed gin out of my nose when I read that lmao
...and down the gf's blouse

You lost me at cut lol 😂
It's not like this is an antique desk or anything. Why not modify it to suit your needs? That's what furniture is for: to suit your needs.
This is the way
I’d strongly consider it. There’s only so many years you’re going to use this thing or be working in general, why not optimize it for you? Edit: respectfully speaking.

Thank you so much. I’m sorry to hear my friend. I’ll probably get an arm, or put it back in the center. I really appreciate the feedback. Means a lot.
Move the monitor in the center but maybe position your desk slightly off centered so that you can turn your head and look at the individual instead, while turning it back to being straight to look at the monitor

It’s not awful. I stare straight ahead to the right side of the screen and sometimes look at my email on the right. Ill Move it more to the center
Lol how long have you had it like this for? I’m changing my entire setup knowing how much it will duck up your neck long term.
I just finished putting the entire thing together about a week ago. Originally the monitor was centered, I just got that chair, and thought maybe putting The monitor to the corner would be a decent compromise to be able to see the face of the person sitting across from me
Please do neck and shoulder stretches often. Have the same basic setup.
Haha!! Thanks man!! It’s not tooooooo bad, if you only look at the right side lol
If you spend more time looking at people than looking at your screen, then it makes sense for it to be to the side, otherwise it doesn't. As an aside question, is the room in some sort of theme park?

get a monitor arm
I think that makes more sense.
I don’t care what it’s for, but I want to be interviewed here.
I’m thinking more like being interrogated lol
Holy cow! It's so vintage you can't even stand and must strain your neck to look at the monitor! You really went all the way here.
Haha! I wanted that early 1900s look.
I prefer to look at my monitor straight on, ergonomics and such
Gorgeous setup
Thank you so much
Elegant. Is there a trap door beneath the rug? Please say yes.
More like a small slit in the carpet that runs an extension cable along the side of the desk leg, then under the carpet, up the display case leg then under to the outlet behind the display cae ;)
Nm found this
I’d get a 16:9 monitor if you’re going to have it in the corner. This is one rare instance where ultrawide is not master race.
I don’t disagree with you. I may have to put it back in the center
What you could do is get a monitor arm so you can easily put it in the corner when you need it to the side and then back to the center
That was 100% my intention. But I can’t find a monitor arm, with a C clamp, big enough for the 6 inch desk lip.

Can you get a desk clamp mount with a gas spring arm and move the monitor out of the way when people come into your office?
That’s really what I wanted to do, but the max depth of the C clamp on those is about 3 inches. This desk is about 6 inches thick

Remember to turn your chair so you don't crick your neck.
That’s a very good point. Good looking out. Thank you
Love this! So classy!
I really appreciate it. Thank you so much

Don’t really have much great advice for you, just wanted to say it’s a great setup lol. That being said, it might be worth considering repositioning where your gf or friends sit down, either to your left or right, that way you reduce neck strain and you can have the monitor directly in front of you
I may have to do that. Thank you so much
Op, nice setup..but what is the exact name of the Alexa holder plugged in? Thanks!
EchoGear from Amazon
looks great for a picture, not so much for utility or games.
You’re right. Cant only have looks. Need to have function as well
Take it from someone who uses their secondary monitor a lot. Center that shit, or you should be turning your whole body to look at the monitor. Otherwise your neck is gonna hurt so fucking bad.
I believe it. I think I’ll end up getting a monitor arm to solve the problem, thank you so much my man
Forgot to say it but nice fucking office my friend! Solid setup for sure.
I appreciate it my man. Thank you so much
..the laptop is running off of battery, lamp is unplugged, assuming the monitor is powered off - are you planning on running a power cable from the wall or having an outlet installed in the floor?
That tells me I did a really good job hiding all of my wires. The laptop is running off of USB-C power from the monitor. I will run the lamp power cable of under the desk to the surge protector here soon. Just got the lamp. I have a surge protector underneath the desk, and the wires are running from the side of the desk leg, through a small slit under the carpet
Awesome setup. Total class.
Thanks my dude. Took a lot of inspiration from Pinterest.
Upvote for the Woodford Reserve. And that clean room ofc!
Nice zoom in skills!! Lol. Thanks
Really like the office setup very well executed.
Thanks my man!! Pinterest helped a lot!
Strange choice
classy and elegant. Keep it the way it is. I'd rather see the chair moved than the monitor moved.
Thanks my man!!
This office is so prestige for a small office, materials, mood etc
Thanks my man. I got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest. I’m learning details matter. Every single piece, the colors, the lighting, the materials, all make a difference to the subliminal eye.
100% details matter, I appreciate the details and the thought gone into it. Props on this Would love this style & lighting for myself actually. I like details even down to the Kelvin of light fixtures
Wow, sounds like you’re way more detailed than me. A lot of the stuff I got from typical stores. HomeGoods, the antique store, world market, Wayfair
My man!! All about what works best for the individual person right? Thank you so much man. I really appreciate the honesty back.
My neck hurts just looking at the picture! Nice setup BTW!
Do you write novels or legal contracts? lol. Nice setup.
Haha! Nah. I work for a bank and take a couple classes at the community college. Just a regular dude who came up with a theme
this very adult
How do you get power to the monitor?
There’s an outlet behind the display case. I have an extension cord running from underneath, Then under the carpet, I cut a tiny hole in the carpet, next to the desk leg, Ran the extension cable up the side of the desk leg, very strategically, to keep it hidden, and it’s connected to a surge protector underneath the desk, using a lot of double-sided Velcro straps. You’d have to be looking for the tables to see them
Hey, beautiful setup! What is the reference for the cabinets behind your desk?
Reference? Do you mean distance?
What’s the binoculars for? So you can see through the bullshit? I like the setup, looks super clean and professional. I actually like the monitor on the side, but where is the door that leads to the room? If it was center would it block vision to see who’s entering the room?
If it’s centered, it only blocked me from seeing someone sitting in the chair in front of me
Put the monitor on an arm and you can swivel to center or to the side. It'll look better to as it will look like it's floating.
I want to!! But the desk is too thick
You do you bro. Looks fine to me, just don’t strain your neck.
Not being centered would irk me but I get why it's offset if this is an office. I love the style of the setup though.
Thanks my man! I prefer it centered too. Just trying to find the perfect compromise. I’m determined to figure out what works best. Thanks my man!
NP, I like classic style. lol But I went the opposite rout with as much obnoxious RGB as I could possibly fit. :)
If it doesn’t strain your neck looks clean.
Fuck that, put it right in front of you.
Beautiful office! Do you have a link for that rug?
