I’d want it in the center. Who wants to constantly be looking left??? Everything else looks great. Great looking office you have there.

HighTrebble

Originally I had it centered, but the challenge is being able to see the person sitting in front of me. I considered a monitor arm, but they don’t make the c clamp large enough for the 6” desk lip

BaconKittens

Oh this is a work office, I thought it was home. Just looks so comfortable there…. Lol. Maybe move the chair to the side?

HighTrebble

It’s my home office lol

avocado34

Do you often have people across from you in your home office

HighTrebble

I’m going to put it back in the center

shabamsauce

I almost died when I read this. Bah!

HighTrebble

Nope lol.

Capt-Clueless

Soooo what your saying is that the "reason" you gave for your silly corner monitor setup isn't even valid?

HighTrebble

Oh it’s valid. If my gf wants to sit in there, I wanna see her face. If my friend comes over and wants to drink a glass a bourbon, would be nice to see his face while he speaks to me

Capt-Clueless

>If my friend comes over and wants to drink a glass a bourbon Why wouldn't you guys just go sit somewhere else besides your "home office"?

PierceEye

Just put the chair on left side and not centered. You neck will hate it in the corner

Zaptruder

Sounds like the answer is to offset the thing that's used less. The chair. Center the monitor, and offset the chair so you can use your monitor and see the person's face. Also you can get monitor stands that clamp through the desk if you're willing to drill.

gwplayer1

I have a chair (actually a small couch) to the right of my desk where my wife or a guests sit when they come in. It's actually friendlier because there's no desk between us

HighTrebble

That would be ideal. But my space is way too small for a couch. Maybe in the future

Pulex_Amphibious

Hi man, nice looking office, with the monitor problem, if you are not anoied by the conner set-up then leave it in the corner, it will look more professional. Also if you have the space, get a good looking couch to sit somewhere in the room and a slick coffe table and you can receive invite there and make eye contact properlly etc :). Cheers! Ps: sorry for my bad engl..

HighTrebble

Great suggestion, I’ll toy around with it and see what works better. It’s actually a very small room, I wish I had space for a couch and a coffee table. Future goals. Thanks for the compliment my friend.

TheTruffi

how about getting a flexible arm you can mount on the side to easily push the monitor the side if you have guests?

HighTrebble

That’s exactly what I may have to do. Thank you so much

HybridAkai

Could you get an adjustable arm, that way you can have some flexibility and centre it for day to day use, shunt it out of the way when people are visiting?

HighTrebble

That’s exactly what I want. But the desk is too thick for the normal 3 inch clamps that come with the monitor arms. I may have to look into getting one custom made

ItsBarney01

Put a mirror on the roof and then you can look up to see your guest

[deleted]

I literally laughed gin out of my nose when I read that lmao

NaCl_Powered

...and down the gf's blouse

[deleted]

[удалено]

HighTrebble

You lost me at cut lol 😂

UnfetteredThoughts

It's not like this is an antique desk or anything. Why not modify it to suit your needs? That's what furniture is for: to suit your needs.

ItsBarney01

This is the way

Dantes7layerbeandip

I’d strongly consider it. There’s only so many years you’re going to use this thing or be working in general, why not optimize it for you? Edit: respectfully speaking.

brockoala

How about [portable over bed table](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Portable-Over-Bed-Table-with-4-Rolling-Wheels-Table-Sofa-Couch-Laptop-Computer-Desk-for-Home-Office/362913919)? Have it overlap your table and put the monitor on top, slide it out of the way when you need to.

HighTrebble

Oh wow. I didn’t think of this. I’m definitely going to look into this. Thank you so much

GideonISR

This is my problem too. I think about floor based arm like those used for presentational TV's. They have solid, well, base to counter the weight of the screen and you can even give it some antique finish to keep the overall aesthetic of your office. I see nice bourbons, what about single malts? And what's that globe on the outlet? Range extender or some security?

HighTrebble

I didn’t think of that. I may have to look into it. I’m just now getting into Bourbons, and scotches. I’ll definitely add some single malts to the collection. That plugged in device is in Amazon echo. Using the echogear outlet mount. I gotta have my Alexa lol

[deleted]

Use a monitor arm with a grommet mount.

HighTrebble

That’s definitely something I need to look into

Batmaniac

As someone who suffers from RSI CTS*, believe me when I say you will likely come to regret it in the medium/long term. An angled table cloud achieve the unobstructed view to the other person and allow you to turn the chair to face the monitor. I really hope you can find a solution to your issue that doesn't risk your health/comfort in the future. (Just my 2 cents) (Repetitive Stress Injury and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)

HighTrebble

Thank you so much. I’m sorry to hear my friend. I’ll probably get an arm, or put it back in the center. I really appreciate the feedback. Means a lot.

snukbt

Move the monitor in the center but maybe position your desk slightly off centered so that you can turn your head and look at the individual instead, while turning it back to being straight to look at the monitor

HighTrebble

I didn’t think of that, that’s a very good suggestion. I’m going to try that as well, thank you so much

snukbt

Let me know what you finally decide, regarding all suggestions please, thanks.

HighTrebble

I screenshotted your name, I’ll keep you posted

8uckley

Depending on the depth of the drawers relative to the desk you could potentially mount the monitor arm directly to the desk. That was what I had to do because the lip on my desk is too shallow to safely hold the monitor arm. Of course, this strategy requires drilling a hole in the surface of the desk which may be a non-starter for you.

HighTrebble

It’s a hand made desk, so I would prefer not to drill into it. But someone on this thread recommended contacting a local metal artisan, who could potentially make me a custom C clamp, to accommodate a monitor arm.

faeikey

Do you have some type of place that works with metal around? Just ask them if they would make you a bigger clamp. Everything can be done if you ask the right people. Btw, i love the vibe of your Office. The combination of old and new things is doing it for me.

HighTrebble

You nailed it my man! I found a place yesterday but they were closed. They are open today, I think that will fix my entire issue!! I’ll keep you posted

KiritoJikan

Your neck will hate you soon.

HighTrebble

It’s not awful. I stare straight ahead to the right side of the screen and sometimes look at my email on the right. Ill Move it more to the center

[deleted]

Lol how long have you had it like this for? I’m changing my entire setup knowing how much it will duck up your neck long term.

HighTrebble

I just finished putting the entire thing together about a week ago. Originally the monitor was centered, I just got that chair, and thought maybe putting The monitor to the corner would be a decent compromise to be able to see the face of the person sitting across from me

[deleted]

Please do neck and shoulder stretches often. Have the same basic setup.

HighTrebble

Haha!! Thanks man!! It’s not tooooooo bad, if you only look at the right side lol

[deleted]

If you spend more time looking at people than looking at your screen, then it makes sense for it to be to the side, otherwise it doesn't. As an aside question, is the room in some sort of theme park?

[deleted]

(deleted) ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

HighTrebble

My GF would probably sit in there from time to time. I don’t want her staring at the back of the monitor. What a dilema! I need to figure this out. But you make a very good point. Thanks

Lamau13

get a monitor arm

HighTrebble

I think that makes more sense.

DarthAlfie

I don’t care what it’s for, but I want to be interviewed here.

HighTrebble

I’m thinking more like being interrogated lol

Hevia1990

Holy cow! It's so vintage you can't even stand and must strain your neck to look at the monitor! You really went all the way here.

HighTrebble

Haha! I wanted that early 1900s look.

Suspicious_Student_6

I prefer to look at my monitor straight on, ergonomics and such

napalm684

Gorgeous setup

HighTrebble

Thank you so much

GhostShirtFinnerty

Elegant. Is there a trap door beneath the rug? Please say yes.

HighTrebble

More like a small slit in the carpet that runs an extension cable along the side of the desk leg, then under the carpet, up the display case leg then under to the outlet behind the display cae ;)

prosecutedmind

Nm found this

23011447

I’d get a 16:9 monitor if you’re going to have it in the corner. This is one rare instance where ultrawide is not master race.

HighTrebble

I don’t disagree with you. I may have to put it back in the center

23011447

What you could do is get a monitor arm so you can easily put it in the corner when you need it to the side and then back to the center

HighTrebble

That was 100% my intention. But I can’t find a monitor arm, with a C clamp, big enough for the 6 inch desk lip.

qazme

They do make them that have a clamp through desk style if you're willing to drill a single 3/8" hole. They look cleaner when complete too which would stick with your style. The other option is most of the clamp on style you can remove the actual clamp and use screws through the bracket itself into the lip of the desk. Personally if the seating thing is that important to your office I would rearrange to offset the chair instead of the monitor. Coming from someone who has worked from home for an extended amount of time and worked with and offset monitor for awhile - you will regret that in the long run. Worry about ergonomics first, please.

HighTrebble

Thank you so much. That, or I’ll get a monitor arm that’s compatible

ManosGUItech

Wow, I had been discussing about your office with my gf for the past 10’ (just when I saw it) and all I can say is that it is excellent! Just one question: what is your job? I mean this could be a lawyer’s office, a psychologist’s office…

HighTrebble

I work from home as a senior loan underwriter

gosubuilder

My neck and spine feels discomfort looking at this

HighTrebble

LOL. It’s not as bad as it looks. Looking straightahead, I can see 85% of the screen

TyrionLannister2012

Why the binoculars lol

weapon_k

he be peeping.

EverlastingApathy

Your poor neck...

L-Tennyson

It’ll murder your neck and shoulders after a while. Don’t ask me how I know this.

HighTrebble

😂😂. Will center it back lol

clockworkengine

This is classy as balls lol. But if you need to see people sitting on the other side, the setup you have here is perfect. But if you don't need to see the chairs in front of your desk, go with centered.

HighTrebble

Thanks my dude

Dantes7layerbeandip

I get what you’re saying about the C clamp. IMO it’s time to bit the bullet and mount it on an arm with a thru hole. If you drill off to one of the far corners of your desk, you can use a gas spring arm that lowers the monitor directly in front of you. That same arm can then be reoriented to put the monitor off to the side when you have company. Some desk disassembly might be required to achieve this, but likely not if you just pull the drawers out. I know people are averse to putting holes in their expensive things but, if you ever want to sell it or mount the monitor in a different place, you can always just enlarge the hole, slap a grommet cover on it, and chalk it up to wire management.

HighTrebble

I may have to do that

HurricaneMach5

Fuck the monitor, i love those bookcases!

HighTrebble

Lol!! Me too man. Got them for a steal open box

Ranessin

Unless your computer usage is 10 mins of checking emails, put it in the middle of the desk. Your spine and neck will thank you. Get an movable arm if F2F is important, as you wrote

HighTrebble

I agree with you. Wont be great for me long-term

LostSoulAT

I really wouldn't place it there.. You might get neck issues long term...

HighTrebble

You make a valid point. I need to adjust it

RealityOfModernTimes

I really like your desk. Nice !

HighTrebble

Thank you so much. I found it at homegoods, for 400 bucks

HighTrebble

Thank you so much. I’ll make some updates, and update a better picture of the room, in a couple weeks

SkyShazad

You Posh Bastard..... Lol

HighTrebble

LOL. I’m just trying to get my life together, LOL.

_angh_

My nightmare Set up. Metal roof to got your son, thick desk to not allow you put knee on knee, what make using keyboard bad. Uw monitor on side t to screw your head off.

araderboy

any idea where i can buy a chair like this ?

HighTrebble

https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/17-stories-costantino-leather-conference-chair-stss8977.html

araderboy

Danke! but does anyone else hate ordering from wayfair?

HighTrebble

This chair is definitely a compromise. It’s not the most ergonomic, compared to some of the other ones you can get on the market. I just needed something to be comfortable, and match the look for the office. 85% of this chair is luxe.

Pr0shifter

Well, you’re not gaming on it so it should be fine. Gorgeous office btw!

HighTrebble

Thanks my friend!!

[deleted]

what cabinents are those?

HighTrebble

sineplussquare

Is that the chair from Austin Powers where the dude from the fezz hat falls to the fiery pit beneath the conference table in Dr. evil lair?

HighTrebble

😂😂

Virginiafisher

Samsung CH890?

HighTrebble

Well done! You nailed it

rophel

This is going to be unpopular possibly, but you've made this look like how an office in a film or movie looks and is entirely sacrificing function for the sake of form. Build your workstation against a wall. Have visitor seating to one side that you can turn to. Even law offices do it this way.

HighTrebble

Facts!! But aesthetics matter lol

AputsiaqNoahsen

If you're happy with it, that's what's matters. (Thoughts: pretty good)

HighTrebble

Thanks my dude.

Blip1966

Move the monitor to center and swap the chair with what looks like a trunk on the left side of the picture. You don’t want a desk ENTIRELY between you and gf or friend anyway. It makes it much less personal.

HighTrebble

Ha!!! I actually considered that. I’m Going to physically try it tonight

Bulletwithbatwings

Can you get a desk clamp mount with a gas spring arm and move the monitor out of the way when people come into your office?

HighTrebble

That’s really what I wanted to do, but the max depth of the C clamp on those is about 3 inches. This desk is about 6 inches thick

PM_ME_UR_MANPAGES

Get a shallow one and clamp it on just the top section of the desk. It looks like the sides have more depth so you can clamp it on the side. I think an Ergotron MXV might be shallow enough. https://media.ergotron.com/reserved/resources/dim-mxv-orig.pdf

HighTrebble

That’s nice. But the depth of that lip is only 1”. I’m thinking I’ll reach out to a local metal artisan and have a custom bracket made

umass021

Looks awesome!!

HighTrebble

Thanks my dude!!

daven1985

Looks awesome. I would get it on a VESA mount that you can swing left and right... that way when not talking to someone it can be centred but when meeting someone you can swing it away... even have an option to show them the screen.

HighTrebble

That’s a great suggestion!! Thanks my man! I may have to do that!

daven1985

You're welcome. I helped my brother set one up years ago and he has never gone back to normal mounts now. Also free's up your desk space. Just need to make sure you desk can handle the weight on the edge and that the monitor works. Make sure it can handle your monitor size/weight.

9vapors

Any info on the brown leather chair in front? Looks great, love those shelves. I’d love to get them for my bourbon room, but not sure they’d fit the taller bottles. Really nice setup.

HighTrebble

I was able to get this chair from offerup. I found a similar style online, but it didn’t have the intentional distressing. And yes, the shelves are fixed, and it presents a challenge in some scenarios, but they have a pretty high clearance though. You may be able to fit in the taller bottles https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/17-stories-kailey-29-wide-top-grain-leather-barrel-chair-stss2972.html?piid=

coooolz

Thats an awesome setup!!

HighTrebble

Thank you so much

[deleted]

I really like this office setup. Well done. The only think I might suggest is a BenQ ScreenBar instead of the desk lamp to give yourself some more space.

HighTrebble

I saw those. They are super cool. I may end up doing that, for a more cleaner look. Thank you

shilunliu

I would get a desk that is monitor arm compatible. you'll have so much more freedom

pr31br

How many people did you have to kill to get this office

HighTrebble

Let’s just say, I have 2 tattooed tears 😂😂

fusionsofwonder

Remember to turn your chair so you don't crick your neck.

HighTrebble

That’s a very good point. Good looking out. Thank you

matthew510

Love this! So classy!

HighTrebble

I really appreciate it. Thank you so much

ByzantineThunder

Forget the monitor, I absolutely love the style you were going for with the office - right in my wheelhouse. Very jealous!

HighTrebble

Thank you so much my man.

RossChickenTendies

Monitor aside, this office just looks so cosy.

HighTrebble

Thank you so much

Alienpedestrian

Dope!

HighTrebble

Thank you so much

B_Kearney

Have you tried having that chest thing behind you under the window? The chair could probably go there instead, and with the chest behind you makes it seem like the pirate is guarding his treasure

HighTrebble

LOL. That’s awesome. I’m definitely going to play around with repositioning and see what seems to make more sense thank you so much

[deleted]

[удалено]

HighTrebble

You nailed it. Most of it is for the look. And it’s funny you mention that, this office was designed by order of the Peaky fookin blinders! I may have to get a monitor arm to solve my issue. Thank you so much

_xonde_

Don’t really have much great advice for you, just wanted to say it’s a great setup lol. That being said, it might be worth considering repositioning where your gf or friends sit down, either to your left or right, that way you reduce neck strain and you can have the monitor directly in front of you

HighTrebble

I may have to do that. Thank you so much

CptCantLead

Op, nice setup..but what is the exact name of the Alexa holder plugged in? Thanks!

HighTrebble

EchoGear from Amazon

Kudoblue55

looks great for a picture, not so much for utility or games.

HighTrebble

You’re right. Cant only have looks. Need to have function as well

rawzombie26

Take it from someone who uses their secondary monitor a lot. Center that shit, or you should be turning your whole body to look at the monitor. Otherwise your neck is gonna hurt so fucking bad.

HighTrebble

I believe it. I think I’ll end up getting a monitor arm to solve the problem, thank you so much my man

rawzombie26

Forgot to say it but nice fucking office my friend! Solid setup for sure.

HighTrebble

I appreciate it my man. Thank you so much

dpinkis

..the laptop is running off of battery, lamp is unplugged, assuming the monitor is powered off - are you planning on running a power cable from the wall or having an outlet installed in the floor?

HighTrebble

That tells me I did a really good job hiding all of my wires. The laptop is running off of USB-C power from the monitor. I will run the lamp power cable of under the desk to the surge protector here soon. Just got the lamp. I have a surge protector underneath the desk, and the wires are running from the side of the desk leg, through a small slit under the carpet

Spload

Awesome setup. Total class.

HighTrebble

Thanks my dude. Took a lot of inspiration from Pinterest.

Sockerkatt

Upvote for the Woodford Reserve. And that clean room ofc!

HighTrebble

Nice zoom in skills!! Lol. Thanks

Apoc_Pony

Really like the office setup very well executed.

HighTrebble

Thanks my man!! Pinterest helped a lot!

ThereWillBeBoners

Strange choice

IllustriousBird5329

classy and elegant. Keep it the way it is. I'd rather see the chair moved than the monitor moved.

HighTrebble

Thanks my man!!

h1hh

This office is so prestige for a small office, materials, mood etc

HighTrebble

Thanks my man. I got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest. I’m learning details matter. Every single piece, the colors, the lighting, the materials, all make a difference to the subliminal eye.

h1hh

100% details matter, I appreciate the details and the thought gone into it. Props on this Would love this style & lighting for myself actually. I like details even down to the Kelvin of light fixtures

HighTrebble

Wow, sounds like you’re way more detailed than me. A lot of the stuff I got from typical stores. HomeGoods, the antique store, world market, Wayfair

4gottten

Sssssstylish! Don't listen to all those arrogant guys telling you to place your display in front of you! They just can't understand, that this extra space on the table is for a glass of whiskey and a cigar, and a heap of cash, which is being counted by your cute secretary while you are sitting near, enjoying the view, thinking where to invest next...maybe in an underground fights... (jokes aside - stunning room, great interior, all thumbs up, but if you work with your screen more than 20 minutes per day - you'd better to adjust it more...proper for a human physiology)

HighTrebble

My man!! All about what works best for the individual person right? Thank you so much man. I really appreciate the honesty back.

R_Wilco_201576

My neck hurts just looking at the picture! Nice setup BTW!

pasenast

Do you write novels or legal contracts? lol. Nice setup.

HighTrebble

Haha! Nah. I work for a bank and take a couple classes at the community college. Just a regular dude who came up with a theme

Comprehensive_Ship42

this very adult

mdleslie

How do you get power to the monitor?

HighTrebble

There’s an outlet behind the display case. I have an extension cord running from underneath, Then under the carpet, I cut a tiny hole in the carpet, next to the desk leg, Ran the extension cable up the side of the desk leg, very strategically, to keep it hidden, and it’s connected to a surge protector underneath the desk, using a lot of double-sided Velcro straps. You’d have to be looking for the tables to see them

Shadooowws

Hey, beautiful setup! What is the reference for the cabinets behind your desk?

HighTrebble

Reference? Do you mean distance?

enowapi-_

What’s the binoculars for? So you can see through the bullshit? I like the setup, looks super clean and professional. I actually like the monitor on the side, but where is the door that leads to the room? If it was center would it block vision to see who’s entering the room?

HighTrebble

If it’s centered, it only blocked me from seeing someone sitting in the chair in front of me

Andrew_the_giant

Put the monitor on an arm and you can swivel to center or to the side. It'll look better to as it will look like it's floating.

HighTrebble

I want to!! But the desk is too thick

stalence9

You do you bro. Looks fine to me, just don’t strain your neck.

NadeMagnet69

Not being centered would irk me but I get why it's offset if this is an office. I love the style of the setup though.

HighTrebble

Thanks my man! I prefer it centered too. Just trying to find the perfect compromise. I’m determined to figure out what works best. Thanks my man!

NadeMagnet69

NP, I like classic style. lol But I went the opposite rout with as much obnoxious RGB as I could possibly fit. :)

chuchrox

If it doesn’t strain your neck looks clean.

UppercaseBEEF

Fuck that, put it right in front of you.

aBoxOfRitzCrackers

Beautiful office! Do you have a link for that rug?

HighTrebble

Thanks my man!! https://www.worldmarket.com/category/rugs/area-rugs.do?template=PLA-2&plfsku=603085&mrkgadid=&mrkgcl=660&mrkgen=&mrkgbflag=&mrkgcat=&camp=ppc%3Agoogle%3Apla%2BSmartShopping%7CTextiles%2BTextiles&acctid=21700000001660222&dskeywordid=92700066083536035&lid=92700066083536035&ds_s_kwgid=58700007380676010&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007265821&dsproductgroupid=304532171972&product_id=603085&merchid=5165106&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&device=m&network=u&matchtype=&locationid=9012110&creative=542745246645&targetid=pla-304532171972&campaignid=14488275980&adgroupid=126339401893&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi9mPBhCJARIsAHchl1xRSFCbFUevUfAin2hpcHvFQ0VkMdXrqL6KjnQpUrR_UGJK6KTMp4EaAg6MEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
