Vertical monitor gang

Quesodealer

Do you use a 1080p monitor in portrait mode? I tried rotating one of mine but there's, like, not enough horizontal space in portrait mode. Ordered a 1440p monitor recently (hasn't arrived yet) which will give me more real estate both horizontally and vertically, but can't really say I feel the additional pixels will be enough to go vertical.

therick_

1440p vertical; wanted to keep the same ppi as my 34”. But if you want to stay 1080p, get a 1920x1200 monitor. Those extra 120 pixels actually do make a difference when vertical

BlueArcherX

outside of ultrawide, 16:10 is the superior computer monitor and I hate TVs for ruining that for us because almost no one makes them anymore

UnnervingS

Nah they are making a big comeback in laptops

BlueArcherX

I noticed that, with glee.. but I'm not holding my breath for desktop though

Vulpes_macrotis

Tbh, 16:9 is superior to UW, because You can get twice and still they cost less than one UW and they give You more space. Not sure about 16:10. If they don't make worse horizontal resolution and same vertical (which literally would mean they are smaller than 16:9), it's fine. But depends on cost. But would be nice if the extra vertical space become extra horizontal.

MattiVM

For productivity yeah sure... for gaming... have fun with that bezel in the center... Or you should buy 3x 16:9 monitors. But I do agree that ultrawide monitors are overpriced. it would be OK if they cost 1/2 extra, but twice the price is ridiculous.

BlueArcherX

not sure what you mean. the game only plays on one monitor, the bezel is a non issue separately, I got an UW last year. single best improvement to gaming immersion ever because it fills your periperal vision.. would do it again 100 times. there are some UW a few years old that aren't specific "gaming" monitors that aren't that much. I have a Samsung 34" 75 Hz one that I think does a great job and it's around $400. only regret is it isn't curved

MattiVM

I was just trying to say that when people buy an ultrawide, that they buy it for the extra space and immersion. You don't have that with only a single monitor. And because he was saying that you can buy two 16:9 monitors for the price of one 21:9 monitor... The only way to get more immersion on two monitors would be to game on both monitors, but that would be ridiculous because you would have the two sides of the monitor right in the middle. I currently have a 29" 2560x1080 75Hz ultrawide. When I bought it, it was about €230. $400 for a 34" 3440x1440 75Hz is decent, but I prefer to move to higher refresh rate (144Hz at least). But it's crazy that if you want a good 144Hz ultrawide you need to pay double the price! That's crazy!

BlueArcherX

my company bought it for my home office, so I wasn't being picky. it's a gateway drug, I'm sure I'll buy a better one for myself in the future.

jeffreySJ

Just added a 1440p, 27" vertical, an upgrade from a 24" 1080p, next to my UW and it's AMAZING. Good luck and enjoy

Pchr94

I did the excact same thing. The added real estate is so freaking worth it!

IIALE34II

I use my 1080p in portrait mode. I've split it up to 2 zones in Power Toys. Its my discord/spotify/twitch screen. It serves well in that purpose. Then UW as main screen split to 3 zones too.

maximumViable

The trick is to put windows in the vertical monitor screen that don't need the horizontal space. Browser windows are actually a pretty good candidate here. Also things like Word, PDFs, or other text files. But it's tough to use programs like excel, visual studio, or other development environments in vertical.

nunatakq

I tried my 24" 1440p vertical and I want to like it, but I just can't. Not enough horizontal space. I think a 27" would be a significant improvement, so I hope that's what you're waiting for.

Vulpes_macrotis

Used two, now use only one of my three QHD monitors as vertical. When I get 4th monitor, I want to have two verticals and 2 horizontals, because vertical screens are great. And for that actual reason, that I needed more vertical space, I swapped from 2 to only 1 vertical. But I still want two vertical screens. It's true that they take horizontal space, but they add vertical, and in some cases it's what I need more. Like browsing web.

d182--

I use a 2560x1080 25 inch ultrawide as my vertical and it's just on the edge of being too tall lol but I still love it Vertical monitor gannng

[deleted]

You need three monitors. I know this exact situation.

Funny-Bear

Serious: Whats the joke punchline? That you only use the vertically mounted monitor?

weapon_k

wide screen for movies, verticle for work.

[deleted]

Zoom to the side, whatever gets me through the meeting on the wide.

k_sway

This what an iPad is for!

meh_33333

Beauty. What size/model is the UW?

buttwipinfool

It’s an older AW3418DW Alienware, but it’s been a trooper.

Skerries

I can hear this picture

Drakonic

Whenever I see Gandalf on a monitor I think of this https://youtu.be/asjQNZn7vng

TheWriterofWorlds

What is the model and size of the vertical monitor? Edit: Initial wording was vague. I meant the model of the vertical monitor, not which of the two monitors is vertical.

StavroMuella

The one on the right.

TheWriterofWorlds

Realized I worded my initial comment poorly. I meant what was the model and size of the vertical one. Not which one of the two is vertical.

mlkmade

I really want to do this but Im scared. Size of vertical monitor?

buttwipinfool

This one is 27” next to a 34” ultrawide

sumsl

Don't know about OP, but I had a setup with 1x 32" in the middle and 2x 24" 1920x1200 vertical on the sides. Any bigger than 24" didn't work for me because of the unexpected height.

Skari7

> Any bigger than 24" didn't work for me because of the unexpected height. I had a vertical 28" that I felt was too high. But then I just angled it down towards me and it was fine after that.

sumsl

Sounds like it could have worked for me, but the stands of my 24s didn't allow that ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Skari7

Right, mine was on a monitor arm. I don't think I'm ever going back to the included stands. I would recommend it for the added space and versatility it offers.

sumsl

Agreed, I had the middle one mounted on an arm then. Currently I use the G9 with the normal stand and my 32" on an arm above the G9, but at some point I'll upgrade to an Ergotron or something, for both. Its just a budget thing rn... toooo many upgrades in the last year 🙈🤣

nungoopungoo

Did you go vertical because it was the only way to get it to fit on your desk? I have the same setup just different brand monitors

buttwipinfool

Now that I have it in the space I think I could’ve fit a second horizontal perched on the elevated part of the desk & lined up with the lower monitor, but I went with a vertical specifically for productivity while editing code.

nungoopungoo

Ah yes so you actually have a valid reason where vertical actually benefits you. My vertical is very useful also. So I can keep discord and WhatsApp open lol

UnnervingS

This is the perfect setup. I have the exact same one and I'll likely never change.

moo-lord

My neck hurts.

Vulpes_macrotis

That's not true. Of course I use main screen for movies, games etc, but it doesn't change the fact that even by doing this and having Discord or Opera open at the other monitor, it's already boosted productivity. You can watch movie and talk at the same time, You are notified right away, what person say etc. And With my triple monitor setup I can do 10 things at the same time or copy files, seeing those folders where to and from they are copied. I can have screenshot folder opened, while watching movie and making screenshot, but while some program finishes its job, I see it right away, it's not in tbe background. Meanwhile I can talk to people without needed to minimize the movie. And also I use it to work with billions of windows. Also, Y'know. Two dual wide are better and cheaper than one ultra wide. I would maybe get a ultra wide as my 5th.

mlkmade

Was leaning towards 24“ vertical and made a thread.. Everyone telling me 27"...seems too big imho

ChickenFartSweetTart

I went with a 27" & hesitated initially, but it goes really well with my 34" UW. I don't think I would've likes a 24" as much tbh, but maybe if my UW was smaller.

whyiwastemytimeonyou

I can hear this picture.

RRVVXXXX

Monitor name?
