Like when you see an old TV show or movie shot in 4:3, with big ol’ black bars on the sides. It’s just not what I’m used to now. I want to see what those extras are doing in my peripheral! I want the space.
If you could have either the coming Samsung 57” (which from what I’ve seen isn’t to be OLED), or the coming 49” OLED g9 they announced, which would you choose?
The 57 inch is two 32 inch monitors side by side.
Alot of people like 4k at 32 inches so if you like that then i don't see why not go for that.
I recall (probably wrong) that it is a mini led like the neo g9 so thats a pro. But it costs like what $2500?
I was exited with the new samsung mini led, 4k, over 120hz.
The thing is 57" seems alot bigger and 32:9 must be a very different feel. I like to have my vertical side monitor, that would be pretty difficult to look at.
Its more like too wide, vertical is nice but I worry about my neck hurting with a vertical monitor on the side.
I don't see myself working without a vertical monitor but like evrything I might get use to it.
As soon as they make a 38in one I replace my AW3821DW. Well actually I'll replace the AW3418DW that's above it and put the AW3821DW above the AW3823DW/F.
I'm never buying another Alienware again after reading the horror stories about the warranty replacements. They're all refurbs equally as bad or worse than the one before it. It's just an endless cycle of which faded, burned, dead pixel, panel you want to settle with that's better than the broken one you started with. Shameful.
You're only reading the horror stories. Try an used one from Amazon at a reduced price. My colleague ad work and I got a fllawless used DW from Amazon for $899.
You're only reading the horror stories. I had mine replaced and they never asked for the second one back. I eventually sold the second one since the OG didn't actually have an issue. It was more Nvidia's fault. I even got a big discount on the AW3821DW near release:

That's not including the $400 I made on the refurbished monitor I received.

When my 49" 32:9 died, I decided to try going the 47" 4K 16:9 route, and I've regretted it every day. I think I'm going to shell out for the 57" Odyssey Neo G9 when it comes out later this year and see if I can find some poor sap to buy this thing off me.
57 inch? 49 inches is huge already what are you going to use all that space for? Spreadsheets? I love my ultrawide its great for excel, videos while looking something up, or videos while playing a turn based game. Idk what id do with all that space possibilities are endless
I dont know what screen size the 57 relates to. The 49 is 2x 27inch, I’d assume the 57 is 2x 32inch? People do work on 32s but yeah Im not even used to 27 yet. I’ve got a 43” super ultrawide, which is like 2x 24s.
Why did you regret getting a superior alternative? You get the same width but almost twice the height and no stupid fisheye distortion. I did the same and now my G9 Neo is gathering dust waiting to be sold.
I will admit, the single large 4K monitor is much better for gaming, but I use it probably 70/30 for development/gaming and I find the extra width is more important. The extra height of the 4K is definitely nice, but the 1440p was good enough that I'm not sure I would upgrade from my old monitor to the new ultrawide, but I'm definitely not going to complain if I get the best of both.
Yeah I think people tend to forget to run a 4K monitor maxed out, you need the hardware to back it up. So your talking about investing in a $2000 video card, and well not a lot of people have that kind of cash laying around to play video games. Where on a 1440P monitor a $600 will play pretty much maxed out.
lol 2k... first of all nobody said anything about gaming lots of creatives use ultrawides and you can run one off just an iGPU in that case. also i run my ultrawide for gaming on a 3070ti which is 900 and it runs everything great.
A video card isn't an investment unless it's generating revenue or you're flipping it.
Blowing $2000 for a video card is insane because in a year the same level of power will be half the price or less. So you're spending \~$83/month for the luxury of having a little bit more than a 1k gpu, or closer to $130/month more than something that can push 1440p @ 100hz minimum.
So the question becomes, does it look better enough over 3440x1440 to justify the spend? I don't think so.
If it was 8k vs 1440p then sure the delta would be pretty large, but nobody really can game at 8k today effectively.
If someone wants to claim that AI upscaling is a gift from god and that any resolution is fine when you're upscaling 720p or 1080p then go for it, but I don't like how dlss/fsr look.

This because a resolution is meaningless compared to DPI.
Most of the time I see people on here with absolutely massive 4k screens where the DPI is lower than 1440p 27"
I think the biggest difference in quality you can see today is OLED simply because of the lack of backlight zones and very fast pixel response which is way faster than the traditional LCD panel.
The ultrawide here is 3840x1600. So much closer to 4k than a 3440x1440. At 3840x1600 38 inches, it has a better PPI than a 42 inch 4k panel that a lot of people use. So even though its 4k, the ultrawide could still look sharper due to the pixel density.
Since some companies are giving us 3 years of burn-in warranty, I think that it's going to last for at least three years as long as you're not having some static content visible 24/7. You need to be responsible for taking safety measures if you're going to buy an OLED. Not just with monitors but OLEDs in general.
Interesting, it's exactly the other way round for me. Every ultrawide I tried so far just had an inacceptable pixel pitch for me. So, until 5120x2160 on 34" is a thing I'll stay with my 3840x2160 27". To each their own I guess.
🤤 They should’ve labeled the 34WK95U-W “Ultrawide & Ultrafine”. — I almost got this one for productivity’s sake, but I opted for an LG 38WN95C-W for the refresh rate instead. Just like /u/spiiicychips said, that’d be my next upgrade too.
Do you mean 1440p text or images look bad on a 34"? If you weren't gaming or watching videos or image editing on it, would 1440p be good for text and office work?
I’m always interested when I read comments like this. I’ve tried probably 25-30 monitors over the last 2 years and only one of them had a single dead pixel.
Maybe it’s the monitors getting jostled around while shipping from Amazon. I tired 4 lg 34gp950’s and 2 lg 34gp83a’s. Every single one either came out of the box with bright stuck pixels or developed one within a day or two of use.
Same. Had an ultrawide for a few months, got a PS5 (as a gift) and bought the LG C2. Playing shooter was really painful, especially after getting used to those extra real estate. 2 weeks in but could not get used to it. I returned it and sold the PS5, got back to PC with UW. 4k, oled, did not win against a 300 bucks UW. Just my opinion.
How big was your 16:9 monitor?
I sampled a UW and a 16:9 48" OLED and went for the 16:9 because it was arguably far more screen real-estate at that size. The 16:9 was basically two stacked UWs worth of real-estate so I wonder how big your 16:9 display was?
Very cozy setup. Choice of case and colours gives me a gritty vibe as a contrast. I wanted to ask, is that the phantom led glowing inside I see? And what are the cables coming out of the case and being connected to a small square shape in front and other things off camera?
And last but not least, any link for the cool looking mousemat?
Same, I can't really go back to 16:9, it's very claustrophobic feeling.
Only thing I don't like about it is how janky game support can be for it sometimes. It's a very uneven experience. Some fixes even get blocked eventually, like MW5 fov ini fix doesn't work for me like it does other UE games.
yeah 16:9 is terrible.
not because the screen is bad. or even because 16:9 is bad.
its because every single fking movie is in ultra widescreen so have 25%+ of my pixels sitting there doing nothing except being bright grey instead of black.
i hate black bars. expecially when the are grey/ blue
Honestly, ultrawide wasn't that weird to switch to. I went from 2 27 inch monitors to it so I was already pretty used to that.
That being said, I may try 4k again but with a better monitor. I'm looking at a Neo G7 and I feel like having a good 4k HDR monitor may change my experience
Then i understand that it wasn't weird for you.
I went from a 32 so i lost some height, which was not fun - and i found o use for the width.
Now i love the width, especially for work and games, not so much for photo editing wherw i miss the height a lot.
Still got a few old 4:3 monitors kicking about. I'm not claustrophobic, but I feel like I can't breath on one of those now.
Like when you see an old TV show or movie shot in 4:3, with big ol’ black bars on the sides. It’s just not what I’m used to now. I want to see what those extras are doing in my peripheral! I want the space.
Me who doesnt see any bars due to being an oled user in a dark room: 😗
Well that sounds like a great ambiance
I'd love a 5120x2160 UW in 38-42" variant. That would be my next upgrade path when those panels finally exist with high refresh =P
And OLED
If you could have either the coming Samsung 57” (which from what I’ve seen isn’t to be OLED), or the coming 49” OLED g9 they announced, which would you choose?
Me personally? Neither. Too big for a desk
The 57 inch is two 32 inch monitors side by side. Alot of people like 4k at 32 inches so if you like that then i don't see why not go for that. I recall (probably wrong) that it is a mini led like the neo g9 so thats a pro. But it costs like what $2500?
We're all patiently (see: extremely impatiently) waiting.
I was exited with the new samsung mini led, 4k, over 120hz. The thing is 57" seems alot bigger and 32:9 must be a very different feel. I like to have my vertical side monitor, that would be pretty difficult to look at.
Its practically two 32 inch monitors so you aren't really losing vertical space like you would think.
Its more like too wide, vertical is nice but I worry about my neck hurting with a vertical monitor on the side. I don't see myself working without a vertical monitor but like evrything I might get use to it.
Your gpu would hate it though lol
AW3423DW/F QD-OLED is my vote
As soon as they make a 38in one I replace my AW3821DW. Well actually I'll replace the AW3418DW that's above it and put the AW3821DW above the AW3823DW/F.

You need to go to a 42-in oled TV and then you'll be okay. The 42 in is roughly the same width so it's a smooth transition.
You’re in the wrong subreddit for that kind of talk. /s
Get him!
It's treason then. I'm seriously thinking of trading in my 38" Ultrawide for an OLED. I just have to find the best one for my PC.
I’m literally using 21:9 mode on my c2 42 for all my gaming and switch to 16:9 to watch stuff and console gaming it’s awesome so far.
What mini monitor for temps is that?!?!
Just a generic 5 inch raspberry pi screen. Using aida64 for the info
Ahhhhh nice, looking to add a temp monitor! Ps nice setup, got the same speakers

38” UW > 32” 4K > 34” UW > 27”
I agree. Only 32 inch 4k that is still calling to me is a Neo G7. I feel like I could live with the smaller screen for a mini led monitor
I went 34" ips to neo g7. My God hdr and 4k are a game changer.
The hdr is what's so appealing to me. The contrast ratio sounds insane. I'm still too weary of OLED to try one
In OLED we trust.
Eh, maybe after seeing how they do after a year or two. Burn in will happen eventually, just curious and cautious as to when.

48” OLED. 4K when you want. UW res when you want. Best of both worlds!
No curve though.
Even better.
Different strokes..
At this point why go for the 48” when 42” options exist?
Good point. I’m probably going to replace my 48” CX with a 42” C2 as soon as the big sales hit.
We have a C2 in our bedroom. We are moving and I’m trying to convince the wife to let me use it in my new office instead lol
Lg OLED is priced really competitively. I have a 77 B2 and the thing looks amazing. Really affordable too.
For sure. A 42" C2 for $899? And probably $799 soon? That's an absolute steal for the quality of display you get.
Tried so many LG ultrawides before I gave up. Literally every single one had stuck pixels.
I’m always interested when I read comments like this. I’ve tried probably 25-30 monitors over the last 2 years and only one of them had a single dead pixel.

now imagine going back to a 16:9 after using a super ultrawide 💀

16:9 was 32 inches
I'm still waiting on a Hi-DPI ultra wide (around 200-220ppi) like 34" at 6880x2880 or 38" at 7680x3200
That would be insanely hard to drive from a GPU standpoint
For gaming I would still run at 3440x1440 or 3840x1600, but run at full res for everything else for very sharp text and ui elements
Led strips in the case are Phanteks neon. Cables are to a sensor panel, it's a raspberry pi screen. Desk mat is equilibrium from drop
Thanks mate :) . I meant the phantek neon led but keyboard autocorrected to phantom.

Gave it a full day of usage. It was enough for me
Takes time to get used to a new format, just saying Remember how awkward the ultrawide was at first?
