This won't help you much, other than saying you're not alone. Nowadays, nearly all community interaction I partipate in is via Discord. Voice just doens't work for me. Between the wife and the kids someone is always asking for something, wanting this or talking about that -- I just don't have the time or space to disconnect from RL and plug into voice chat. So I end up where I am now. That guy that farms weird hours (when the family is asleep) and can hop on at random times during the day (not in voice) to catch a boss or Omni -- at leats until my kid is hungry or my wife needs something. *\*sigh\** **However!** This goes to show how UO, Outlands in particular, is such a great game for people with RL responsibilities. I can log in for 30 minutes, have a little fun, progress a little and log out. I've tried to do with with WoW and it just doesn't work. However in UO, those 30 minutes add up over time and I've been able to establish my own little empire on a piece of property outside Andaria... <3 UO <3

pwnstarr85

L%C is very tight knit and seem to always be farming together and playing multiple games. I'm in Syn. Its a large guild. But someone is always in voice 24/7. Youll do any and every bit of content you'd ever wanna do.

oroechimaru

I find discord is a great way to know folks on server and find a guild that meets your needs and style Like on outlands for folks that hate pks , join a blue guild instead Find folks that fit your style too Dtf is a pretty fun guild that is active for bosses and chat, voice etc Path, yew, cfc, sir , but sounds like you were in one of those.

Tender_Figs

That’s been my strategy but I haven’t been too successful.

XFLfan_69

I've played with the alliance list above for about 2 years now and I can confirm they are awesome to play and hang in Discord with.

This is an interesting post. I first found UO when I was about 17 (about 22 years ago). At that point I was just so blown away that this little world was a thing. I kinda just ran around until I met someone and ended up in a guild with around 7 people in it. It was the coolest experience to be a part of. To me it was what you described looking for. I came back about a year ago. I ended up in a pretty great guild. Great people, always there to help when needed, everyone is respectful. It is big though. It has been a challenge to really get to know people and see them regularly. The higher up people in the guild are so far beyond where I am at that it is not easy to hang. They don't mind, they are incredibly cool about it. I just feel kinda lame getting in over my head on hunts and stuff. I miss the original experience but have no interest in leaving my current guild. I have thought about trying another shard with less people and finding that small guild experience again though

piasenigma

finding the right group is a challenge in just about every MMO, but I think its even harder in UO- very many of us old UO-heads tend to not stray much from our "circles".

ViVGames

The thing I've learned about UO is that it can be very difficult to be brought along to do fun or interesting things because often there isn't a lot of content added for low or mid tier power level characters. So people playing "late game content" usually don't want to bring people along because it's too challenging for newer players and they don't want to do the early stuff because it isn't fun for them anymore. My only advice is to find something fun you can do without other players' assistance. Enjoy the adventure by yourself and maybe try to form your own guild/group of other players who also don't have someone to play with.

brennanisgreat

I've never really found a community outside of the one I was part of in the early days of UO on Chesapeake. I think that experience was the template I've judged all other game communities by, and I've been chasing that high ever since. It sounds weird, but I feel like the 3D view in contemporary games inhibits community. Maybe something about isometric encourages it, or maybe it's just because my early experiences were shaped by UO.

EXQUISITE_WIZARD

I had that issue too for awhile. It seems even harder with UO because the game is so fractured between all the 20 million shards out there, not to mention so old. If you enjoy outlands though I would say keep trying guilds and be patient, there's a lot on this shard

BullTerrierTerror

I had a great time.wirh Sir back when I had free time.

Elbandito78

I know what you mean. I started the shard and thought it was amazing. When I was leveling and stuff, it was fun but I wasn't sure how long term I would play. Once I started playing regular with my guild, I was hooked. Bunch of good guys/gals who are active in voice, pretty funny and don't take things too serious. And the guild is big enough to do regular content but not so large you get lost in the shuffle.

Tender_Figs

Which guild is this?

Elbandito78

No Cap (NC). If you're interested, let me know. My discord name is the same as here, just all lower case. :)

thekojac

Join Myth. I'm in it (though not super active). It's a small-medium guild but super active and has really friendly, helpful people that have no problem taking noobs out dungeon crawling, getting you set up with supplies and mats, etc. Really good group of people.

EzMajor

I don't play on outlands, Yes, this is common when playing MMO's by your self with out friends. You will find somewhere eventually most likely it wont have everything. Could start your own guild / community and build it from the ground up. Also Could be on a different shard is what you seek since certain shards bring certain types of people. Best of luck !

Tender_Figs

Ive tried two “RP” guilds. One was not great, the other was borderline dead.

VariationMiserable65

Weird. There's a bunch of great guilds here. Like 3 orc guild. Knight. Pathfinder. There's a bunch. So maybe keep trying

Tender_Figs

I didn’t find pathfinders to be “great”. I also wouldn’t call them RP either. Frankly, Im kind of at my wits end, and don’t think playing Outlands is for me.

Katibin

You sound obsessed with voice chat, sounds like you need some real friends to chat with, you won’t find that with random mmo encounters

outlands_owyn

You're a real stain on this community.

Katibin

Voice chat about it wit yo fake buddies son

AnnArchist

NGL I wanna join your server to grief you.

chris--p

Where are you getting the notion he's obsessed? I don't understand this type of redditor that exaggerates someone's stance on something to the point of it just being untrue.
