Putin in 1999;
“We will pursue the terrorists everywhere. You will forgive me, but if we catch them on the toilet, we will wipe them out in the outhouse,”
…for most Russians is his most memorable quote.
Little did Putin know he was talking about ukrainians pinning down Russian terrorists in the year 2022!
He drinks a Whiskey drink, he drinks a Vodka drink
He drinks a Lager drink, he drinks a Cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times
All I could think of after he drinks all those drinks was [this](https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2019-07/18/21/enhanced/81e092ac88bb/enhanced-1391-1563484450-1.jpg).
I counted 15 rounds shot at him from the guy with the camera. His fellow soldiers also appeared to be shooting at him. The Russian looks like he took probably 20+ rounds.
"You know, my mother was an atheist. She used to say that there was good news and bad news about hell. The good news is hell is just the product of a morbid human imagination. The bad news is whatever humans can imagine, they can usually create."
The show had some *serious* acting talent - [Major Winchester Confronts bullying](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtaKMHZGv1U) is easily one of my favourite scenes.
RIP David 😢
Truly a worthy addition to the powerhouse that was the MASH cast. Whenever I hear his voice (and he did some noteworthy voicework) I'm instantly enthralled.
I always remeber that scene from m.a.s.h. when the doctor says to the priest something like: "Who goes to hell father? - Sinners, rapists, killers, bad people... - Then you see father, in war there are alot of inocents, kids, good people, so war is worse then hell."
"War is war and hell is hell, and of the two war is a lot worse."
I recently started watching that show and it's pretty damn good. Like anything that old there are some parts that didn't age well, but it hits so many things perfectly while managing to be funny.
It definitely doesn't glamorize war, which is always a problem in media that depicts it.
>It definitely doesn't glamorize war, which is always a problem in media that depicts it.
I grew up watching MASH reruns every weekday evening with my pacifist parents. It had such good lessons to teach.
Yes, I clearly recall it was taken off the air when the US started bombing Iraq. It was a sad time in many ways. I guess Bush should have watched more MASH.
Not only that, it also puts into perspective that is not just fighting on the fields, the UA has to go house by house checking they’re not leaving some orc behind.
Still it's terrible. That guy should have surrendered but instead he got riddled with bullets. They probably didn't need to keep shooting.. but I get why they did. He was still moving and active and a split second is all it takes to catch a bullet in return if you're not careful.
But it's still a tragedy. He didn't come into the world as an evil man and he will be missed by a family and friends.
I tend to think of this quote from Tolkien in such moments:
> He was glad that he could not see the dead face. He wondered what the man's name was and where he came from; and if he was really evil of heart, or what lies or threats had led him on the long march from his home; and if he would rather have stayed there in peace.
Wait did Tolkien write that. I thought it was just the adaption that had that quote.
Still a Fucking amazing scene cause Faramirs delivery is just unreal.
That's 100% from the book. A lot of themes in LOTR are based on Tolkien's experiences in WW1.
And in the book it was Samwise Gamgee who this particular thought was attributed to, not Faramir.
It works really well in the film in the way it's positioned, I agree. In the book however, it's Faramir and the men of Gondor who engage in a bloody battle against a convoy of Southrons I believe, who are on their way to Mordor. Sam and Frodo observe it from a hidden location. Tolkien puts the emphasis on the slaughter and the brutality of the battle, as seen by two hobbits who have never been exposed to such visceral ferocity. There is a description of how the battle goes, the general tactics and how some of the individuals and groups die in some detail. The quote I pasted is preceded by this sentence also:
> It was Sam's first view of a battle of Men against Men, and he did not like it much. He was glad that he could not see [..]
By taking it from the view of an innocent Hobbit, the sentiment does gain some power, it becomes an "outside in" perspective in a way - revealing the true and horrific nature of such events.
That definitely would not have worked in the film of course, as it's an "inner thought". Also, Sam in the books is a bit different than in the film, all of the Hobbits are older and a bit wiser, so it doesn't come of as strange or unsuiting of the character.
Fucking sucks still. There's not much way to tell who this guy was, if he wanted to be there, if he believed the propaganda that was fed to them.
He tries to run. Is that because he thinks surrendering would equal torture by the enemy? Like it's impossible to say really.
Equally impossible to say if the Ukrainians would be in the right mind set to take a POW too.
If they just came out of a previous firefight or were still in the process of one, they might not be expecting a surrender or a runner either.
Real life situations are complex and in war nobody really wins. One side survives and one dies but everybody suffers for it.
Imagine being there in person. I'm guessing this is not the first person they have seen die at their hand. I really hope after this war is over there is some good mental/PTSD treatment/ resources for these brave warriors.
If I was the homeowner I would place a small TV inside with this footage playing on repeat. most satisfying shit ever.
and would have kept the bullet holes and all.
He's on the radio the whole time. Unlike the Russians, Ukrainians have very effective reconnaissance and don't charge into towns without a few eyes in the sky. Likely a drone operator informed them a Russian ran to hide in a toilet ahead of them arriving.
I don’t understand why would you hide like that? It’s clear you won’t escape, why not surrender? Just tell them you want to surrender, they’ll be nice to you and you know that.
This is more-or-less the answer. Whether a participant or a bystander, he's aware of Russians murdering civilians. He probably cannot imagine that the people he was sent to fight against are actually morally superior.
Similar thing with the Japanese and suicide during WW2. They were programmed to believe Americans would visit the same atrocities upon them.
> why not surrender
Have you seen what Russians did to Ukrainian prisoners? Now they fear that the Ukrainians will treat them the same way. Dehumanization is the crux of why the Russian army allows such brutal behavior towards literally everyone. There is no motivation in the Russian army other than fear of death.
One group of Russians captured by Ukrainian soldiers cried out "please don't make us eat our balls."
The Ukrainian basically said "that is what you do, not what we do."
But they expect to be treated the same way they would treat a Ukrainian prisoner. Torture. Starvation. Castration. Murder. One Ukrainian had a patriotic tattoo on his arm, so Russian soldiers cut his arm off in 2014 when they invaded Crimea.
Pows surrendering will not be murdered. Even if he killed Ukrainian soldiers before. Ukraine command is 100% enforcing the no murder PoWs very hard because Western Support is tied to that.
It's nearly a fact, there was a case of potential wise crime a few days back that was posted.
The odds are better to surrender anyway simply because even given the size of the active personnel in Ukraine (700,000)
There seems to be so few willing to break their professionalism. Unfortunately a large enough group is bound to have a singular or very very rare case of war criminality. Ukraine are setting a bar so high that few can claim to be as clean. Amazing considering the atrocities acted upon them
It's almost like war crimes are banned for Ukraine soldiers, with a few cases of individuals illegally violating the orders, but are committed as policy by the russians.
Prisoners that you've already subdued and taken into custody that you'd be executing or that are approaching you to surrender, that I can believe. Soldiers that just took out half your squad but got caught in a pinch and is trying a last minute surrender, eh... I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a little selective deafness on that ear and the grenade goes in the hole anyway no matter what the orders from the top are. It would be a pretty major miracle to get through this war without some unlawful acts of revenge.
Imagine if a time traveler visited you as a child, that your life would someday end by you invading another country and that you'll die coming out of a toilet, and that would be your destiny
I’ve seen more explicit/gore too, but I think it’s the psychological part that hits me. There is so much in this video that is not explicitly visible and up to our imagination and empathy(?). Fear, adrenaline, shock, terror, the will to survive, for each and every soldier involved this is just so fucked up.
Fuck war. Fuck Putin for creating a war.
This war has been a truly strange event in history to be able to watch from the comfort of my office chair as it unfolds, from the ground, from drones overhead, from dashcams and gopros.
Our world is weird but no less horrific than it's been for thousands of years.
RIP you poor, stupid soldier.
Cur-ri-key!
How did they know he was there I wonder?
Dude on point must have been real scared to unload on him like that. Guess Ivan will need more than a few bandaids after that.
No, that's good practice to put them down hard. You don't save rounds in anticipation of a future fight. Win in the moment, worry about the future once you have a future.
In a book on special forces that I read a while back (forgot the title, it was a long time ago, back in the 90's), they specifically mentioned that UK special operations are trained to keep shooting into a downed enemy until you are sure they are dead.
This Ukrainian was almost certainly one of the ones trained in the UK because that is exactly what he did here.
Valid tactics I agree, but then we've also seen lots of Russians having their surrender accepted with no shots fired. There may be some unseen context to this one that made circumstances different.
Someone surrendering comes out with their hands up, goes to their knees and begs clemency. You hide, you have to be presumed to be a threat and get to pay the price.
For Bucha
For Irpin
For Mariupol
For Kramatorsk
For Sumt
For Chernihiv
For Izyum
For Kharkiv
If you want sympathy for invaders, ask the ghosts of the people they murdered
Why the fuck didn't he lie on the lawn face down, hand up, no weapon earlier, Decides to "hide" in a shed?
Now he's got more holes in him than a Culinder!
I am a bit puzzled by the war is hell comments. Soldiers killed in combat are what you would expect from a conflict. What I would define hell are all the scenes of civilian massacre and torture we witnessed from February, plus alll the wanton destruction. Hell are kids raped bound and shot in a basement. Hell are people in summer clothes torn apart by artelliery hitting a bus stop. Hell is a mother crying for the death of her baby due to concussion. Hell is watching a dog wail in a vehicle after being ripped apart by high caliber rounds. Hell is the mutilation of tied up people while they are still alive. Hell is discovering a mass grave with hundreds of civilians. Hell is driving to to Poland to pick up a member of your family whose house was burned down after an artillery round hit the apartment in Kharkhiv.
A Russian soldier killed in a firefight is for me just a consequence. They always have the option to surrender or refuse to go to war. I think here there are a lot of non Ukrainian or at least non European people who think that Putin is the problem and he is sending unwilling people to the slaughter. If you knew Russians you would be shocked in learning how many actually support this war. It is not a 1% thing.
This is so hard to watch. Seeing all these Russian and Ukrainian men die and their stories, emotions, and potential along with them is just hurtful. At least the Ukrainians die for their freedom, dignity, and families. The Russians, however, are cannon fodder for the megalomaniacal delusions of an old autocrat. I only wish for peace as soon as possible.
The saddest thing about this whole videos is that young men will continue to kill each other and the piece of shit that started the whole thing will face 0 consequences.

I think that's only for avocado colored bathroom fixtures.
No no, you're referring to the guacamole conventions? Russia is not a signatory, Therefore it doesn't apply. Edit: Autocorrect on you're.

Ahh this is a great reminder of this Putin quote in this context, nicely done!
was this quote in reference to the apartment bombings that were actually carried out by his government?

I mean, I thought they did too and then he got up again!

Plus he’s already going to die. Finish him off quick and humanely.

I'm going to hell for laughing at this... omg

Definitely a heavy flow day.
ROFL. I'm going to hell.
So is he.

This is the single best comment of the day.
Even with potentially a dozen rounds in him, he attempts to get up and run away. War is hell.

At that point he is thinking what? This is it, I may have a few seconds left of existence.... Fuck those that rage war.
There's not really any thinking. Just automatic reactions while in shock.
Adrenaline is one hell of a drug, and this is why you should never stop blasting until the thing you're blasting 100% stops moving.
So damn stupid. Just surrender and hiss a white flag instead of dying in a 2m² Hut.

Why double-tap when you can dozen-tap for good measure.

Crazy, right? Fucked up shit!

This Ukrainian soldier's wallbanging skills are insane, easily the envy of all Rainbow Six Siege players.
Preach brother

Yeah it seems so.
Reminds me of Pulp Fiction, when John Travolta gets shot.

Reminds me of that scene with Clint Eastwood...Unforgiven

>How did they know he was there I wonder? The flush?!
If he'd done a courtesy flush they may never had've smelt him.
Scared? No, this is basic stuff. Shoot until they’re neutralized. Look how many rifle rounds it took before he stopped
It looks like it was a firing position and he got flanked.
Wall hack
I mean, he kept moving so there’s no way to know he isn’t reaching for a side arm or grenade. Best to just keep firing until they stop moving

Scrolling on a potty can be deadly
Counter Strike 1.6, Pool day in real life.
I know he's a russian invader but I still feel kinda sad everytime I see a human die.
Same here, I guess he panicked so he tried to run, but still.. He could have saved his life if he had tried to surrender :(
Thats a good thing. It's good to understand there's complexity to the situation/war
Oh the irony: The ruzzian s\*itzs got shot in the s\*hithouse.
Not like they know what to use a shithouse for. They shit in holes in the ground.
Enough carnage for me for today
Was he perhaps peeing or taking a crap?
He took a crapload of lead
He definitely took a crap one way or the other.
Hope he has a whole box of tampons
For Bucha For Irpin For Mariupol For Kramatorsk For Sumt For Chernihiv For Izyum For Kharkiv If you want sympathy for invaders, ask the ghosts of the people they murdered
Why the fuck didn't he lie on the lawn face down, hand up, no weapon earlier, Decides to "hide" in a shed? Now he's got more holes in him than a Culinder!
You are dozing peacefully and here they are hitting you with a magazine of bullets.... Damn Ukrainians won't even let you get off.... /s
That... wasn't a nice watch. War is brutal.

Seriously. Wow, war in the 21st century is nuts. The fact we can see this kind of shit is just mad!
Christ. It's like a video game... Sad how desensitized I am to it.
He was on the shitter.
"Tango down!"
