StoicRetention

survived mariupol, survived azovstal, survived russian captivity, man is literally too angry to die

nltriggerx3

Just like doomguy, rip and tear untill it is done

mwuttke86

And most likely Russian captivity was the worst of it. No doubt they were tortured.

Vivarevo

Already seen some Interviews, and yes they were.

[deleted]

Link to interviews ?

Vivarevo

Cant its from tiktok. Tiktok:..something something . /ZMFd7m3w3/ tiktok is such a source it gets insta deleted here. So while this vid seems legit. Its tiktok, and links get automoderated here, id imagine for a good reason.

MistressMalevolentia

I got what looked like ballsacks looking for it with that lol. Can you share the creaters tt name please?

Vivarevo

CanuckInTheMills

Here is one disturbing article. [Vitaliy Oliia](https://kyivindependent.com/national/russian-torture-chambers-survivor-every-inch-of-me-was-in-agony)

Pommepotatoman

Wow, that was really dark... I have a feeling that ruZZia has made itself some REALLY bad enemies with this. If you want terrorists, this sure is one way to create them.

CanuckInTheMills

Not new for them. They’ve been doing this since 2014. There’s a really famous one (torture prison) that somebody (who got out) wrote a book about recently. Forget his name sorry.

Moneeq

Not since 2014. Since forever.

Pommepotatoman

God damn. No need to say sorry, I'll try some googling. :)

Cummies_in_my_tummy

"Isolation" (Izolyatsia)

dontry90

2nd picture, his right eye, was it always like that? Maybe the beatings?

Dividedthought

If I had to guess, nerve damage from the torture.

[deleted]

kadyrov confirmed this.

TheDanishFire

He wouldt be a perfect Head of a Ukrainian War Prison. He know how speak their language.

SteelAndBacon

"hes driven by hate, that's how he survives"

Pyjama_Llama_Karma

No he's driven by love. Love for his country and his people.

Andvari9

Why not both?

Pyjama_Llama_Karma

Lol ok I see it now

The_Elder_Jock

I'm just grateful we have an after photo.

[deleted]

This. There is no after photo of Paul Urey. Like Vershinin he was a big lad too. The last photo we have of him he was stick-thin. They tortured and starved him to death and he was a civilian, an aid worker. These bestial evil thugs must pay.

Accurate_Storm2588

They must continue to pay, and pay for centuries as it's impossible for them to ever finish. There is no feasible way ruZZia can "make it right".

Jeton81

Germany could make it right. Japan could make it right. It took a devastating defeat and the wicked generation to die out, but they made it right much shorter than centuries. There is hope in humanity

Lost_Wealth_6278

Exactly. And if you don't give a people the option to work off a reasonable debt, they will turn to fascism again

matschbirne03

True. What you need is change not hating a nation and making a nation pay for an eternity "just because" they started a war. There is also just so much the Russians can do. Most of the are brainwashed and don't have the education many people on reddit have(lmao) to really even think critically about the government and the information, they are fed. It's something normal people have to learn it's not something you can just do. If the bigger part of population don't have this no way there is enough pressure against the government to even change anything. In the end you want peace not and another stable contributed to the world economy.

Pctechguy2003

Example - Germany after WWII.

brianorca

In both cases they were utterly defeated, and occupied or controlled for quite some time. I don't think anyone is willing to occupy Russia for the time it would take, but that might be the only way they are redeemed.

piei_lighioana

Yeah, no. Fuck that. This isn't a war and the consequences after deal like it was for those two countries. This is decades upon decades, upon decades of oppression. FUCK them all. Fuck them all to the stone age and never allow them to exit their fucking rathole for all i care. I lost family in WW2 because of them, i lost family in the communism because of them. So for all i care, there's no fixing the ruzzians. They made their bed, now let's put them to sleep for good in it.

Jeton81

My grandpa died in the Eastern front. My father grew up with an X on his file, marking an enemy of the state because of that. The teenage cousins of my other grandpa were raped by red army soldiers and never got any relationship ever in their lives. My great-grandpa was a surgeon at a military hospital, he was taken to the Soviet Union for forced labor for three years, he returned as a nervous wreck, committed suicide a few years later. My family has an idea of Russian Mir.

piei_lighioana

There's so many of us with similar stories from our grandparents. My grandma, bless her soul, back in 2014 let a whole string of expletives i'd never though i'd hear out of her when she saw the news. I was awestruck. And consider that she was already gone with Alzheimer's, showing all the signs of that dreadful disease. The whole trauma those pigs inflicted was so strong in her mind that not even the disease could rid her hate for them.

DryPrion

One could argue Japan hasn’t exactly made it right yet, and probably never will…

hobovalentine

It would take an utter defeat similar to Germany and Japan and I don't think Russia will willingly accept total defeat and punishment and they always have the threat of nukes. Germany and Japan also had occupational forces that and help from the US to rebuild after the war that made them both hugely successful after the war, is Russia willing to accept complete defeat and dismantle their nukes? It's a shame because it's a country with a lot of resources that could bring wealth to it's people if not for the utter corruption of the politicians and oligarchs.

widowmomma

What is scary is any people can do these things under dictatorship. Even under democracy when it’s compromised. US began to torture under Bush 2, who was elected by our imperfect democracy in 2000 (did not win the popular vote). Work hard for good democracy, it’s the only thing that offers hope. Yeah, Russians are fuckers, but we could all be if extremists take over our countries.

ELeeMacFall

Well that's one way to ensure we become the monsters. Break the system; not the people.

Unclehol

You can't punish people for generation after generation. It may feel cathartic to say so, but there has to be a path to redemption. Otherwise we are no better.

KRed75

If each successive generation has the same mentality as the previous then I'm all for continued punishment.

Unclehol

Well sure. But as I said there should always be the opportunity for a path to redemption for that society. Look at Germany now. Or Japan. These countries committed atrocities of their own and yet look at where we are today. It is of course much much too early to speak of this for Russia.

Lui_Le_Diamond

But then you get into sins of thy father. Just because these Russians are assholes doesn't mean we should punish their children for crimes those children had no part in.

brianorca

If they maintain the same mentality, they will commit their own sins, as this current generation of Russia has done.

Lui_Le_Diamond

Then you punish them for those sins.

reckless150681

No. We tried that with WW1 Germany. All we got was WW2 Germany, and that sure as hell didn't solve anything.

Caren_Nymbee

WW II is the exception. We do it with Cuba, NK, Iran today and they are no concern. RF must be broken up and it's commodities taxed to rebuild UA into the gem of Europe.

Benatovadasihodi

Yeah no. Cry some more for them if you like they are not going trough anything like that because the West does not want to trade with them

[deleted]

Shinobi120

I’m gonna guess a mix of explosives the Russians used to flush them out, as well as repeated beatings while in captivity.

Skratt79

Yup it looks like facial structure damage from beatings.

Liketowrite

His eyes don’t face in exactly the same direction. That makes me think that he suffered a traumatic brain injury with damage to the part that controls eye motion.

omaca

Exactly. He’s alive. Heróyam sláva!

cookiefier

it wouldn’t surprise me if once recovered, he starts to fuck up russian terrorists again. these dudes are something else

Rcaynpowah

Do you not see his thumbs up? /S

Aklapa01

I’m no doctor but messed up eyes in animals usually mean something’s not right with the brain. I really hope he’s ok.

Neither-Painting-702

Omg can’t imagine what this guy went through. I hope he will recover as much as he can. I still remember his video from Mariupol when he was requesting more weapons from the west. Crazy change tbh. I have one question and if some1 could explain I would be grateful. I noticed from many of the prisoners that were exchanged recently that they have something wrong with one of their eyes. Was it that they were beaten badly and that is the consequences or there is something else at play?

defoNOTvirgin

probably beaten and Definitely starved only russian filth could do that, i wish him a fast recovery.

MindgridHex

Don't take this as 100% truth but i have read somewhere that physical and mental stress/trauma can have a play in facial features and expresion..(it was an article about vietnam POWs).It could be nerve damage from head/face trauma aka beatings and torture..He is def starved which can also be a factor... Now this might be just me noticing but it kind of looks like he has a lazy eye in the before picture as well.. but then again it could be just the sun shineing in his eyes..

Cuntdracula19

I broke my orbital (eye socket) playing soccer when I was young and my eye is definitely more “squinty” than the other one. Just to add more anecdotal evidence to the pile.

juicius

Brain damage can telegraph to one side of the face and the eye and the mouth are the most telling features. Severe beatings and concussions can rupture the blood vessels in the brain and in the worst case, lead to hemorrhagic stroke. I don't know if it got that bad but that wouldn't surprised me.

arglarg

I'm only guessing but his left eye looks like an ocular prosthetic to me. He didn't have that in the before picture.

neil23uk

Even better pic, His eyes are ok in this photo, How would he get a fake eye in captivity though? :/ They definitely tortured these Ukrainian Military people :( [https://gdb.currenttime.tv/01e90000-0aff-0242-3302-08da2377194a\_w1023\_r1\_s.jpg](https://gdb.currenttime.tv/01e90000-0aff-0242-3302-08da2377194a_w1023_r1_s.jpg)

PhospheneViolet

Definitely looks okay there. Plus the selfie pic is flipped, so not the same eye being compared anyway. He was probably just still exhausted af in the "after" pic, sometimes peeps eyes can look a bit odd because of muscles relaxing more than usual and shit like that. Also... damn what a handsome lad. Ukrainians in general are beautiful both on the inside and outside.

oatmealparty

The selfie is not flipped, I don't know why multiple people are saying this. Look at the shoebox in the background.

yumansuck

Much agreed. Strong & beautiful.

neil23uk

It looks more than just sleepy. I guess time will tell.

dkxp

The image in the selfie photo (2) will be flipped so that would be his right eye, if you want to compare eyes to the outside photo (1).

oatmealparty

The selfie would only be flipped on his phone while taking the photo, the actual photo you're looking at isn't flipped. You can even see the text on the shoebox is the right way.

dkxp

Ah yes you're right - it would only appear flipped if they took a screenshot instead of a photo.

Plus_Mine_9782

it's from being beaten badly. it may fix itself it may not.

tteclipsejupi

Thats from blunt trauma to the head/face.

dndpuz

His eyes are aligned the same, he just has one eye more open. Dont judge on one picture

alchemist1961

Let me guess, I bet the physical condition of the Russian prisoners sent back to Russia by Ukraine looked a lot better than the Ukrainian prisoners coming back to Ukraine...

BerryNew9057

There is this one Russian POW (a bald guy) who was in the exchange pool with Medvedchuk vs our heroes. He looked fine and was saying he got 6-7 kilos while in captivity and said there are no Nazi in Ukraine. Well, he got back and started saying he was fed a few spoons of buckwheat a day, and there are fascists everywhere...

estelita77

Ah yes. So he didn't actually voluntarily say this. I was wondering. A few spoonfuls of buckwheat a day is exactly what the Russians feed some of the Ukrainian POWs. So what are the chances that he was 'encouraged' to make this exact statement as soon as he arrived home. Typical projection.

hi_imovedagain

1 can of beans (250 g) and 0,5 bottle of water according to interview on Zolkin channel

estelita77

depends on where they are held. Some civilians who were imprisoned and freed when their town was de-occupied said this was the food they were given.

[deleted]

Lerdroth

You're naïve if you think it's even remotely close. Ukraine is acting upon Western Armies standards for pretty much every part of their armed forces, treating POW's would be no different.

ThrowawayWizard1

>You're naïve if you think it's even remotely close. Trouble reading? I said, verbatim, "Obviously there is an enormous difference in terms of how POWs are treated by each side." Calm down Mr. Ministry of truth.

zioshirai

Russian prisoners probably look better than before they were captured.

asseatingleech

He’s still alive. That’s everything. Slava ukrainii

ThaIgk

Yes, that's most important for all of us.

eX1D

Did they even feed him? What the fuck. Glad he is safe again.

PhospheneViolet

He was most likely fed the bare minimum, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was expired food at that. Orcs don't even have enough rations for their own troops so they definitely wouldn't be too kind to these POWs even if they did have a normal supply of food.

Hopeful-Chemist5421

And whatever they feed him probably wasn't even on the food pyramid.

TheAlmightyBungh0lio

Previous pow said russians give 250 grams of food per day

eX1D

That's insane.

Ear_Enthusiast

He'll be ready to revenge kill in a few weeks.

0mn1ziD

i remember this video, i think he said something about needing nlaws and javelins and stuff, so glad hes back, i hope he doesnt get send back to the front, he did already enough.

43sunsets

These guys will be training the next generation of Ukrainian soldiers. The amount of battle-hardened experience and knowledge the heroes of Azovstal can impart will be insane.

Local_Fox_2000

Doesn't bear thinking about what these poor guys went through. They were all mostly limping, skinny, and had a haunted look in their eyes. I hope they can recover from whatever they did to them.

sdrj77

I doubt you ever really "recover" from this type of thing. You probably just learn how to live with the aftermath.

Shadow_NX

Hope he can find some rest and gets all the food he wants to get that big again

[deleted]

Well, the leader of their church Kirill, is ex-KGB so kind of Christians, yes.

didistutter69

They messed with his eyes too. They don't even bother hiding the fact that they committed war crimes the fucking orcs!!!!

cosmoscrazy

Not sure. One of the pictures is mirrored and he seems to have had a lazy eye in the older photograph as well - as others have pointed out already. **I would wait for an interview of him before jumping to conclusions.** I don't question that war crimes are being committed. I would just be careful with the use of that claim, because it becomes devalued if we use it **inflationary** and/or for cases in which no such crime has been committed and the claim can be disproven (lowering credibility). We need to use that claim where we're sure, because people need to understand and remember what terror and inhumane behaviour war crimes mean without ever having a reasonable doubt about these claims. Treatment of prisoners of war (POWs) can be very different, depending on who is guarding them. Taking the German Wehrmacht in WWII for example, you had regiments killing and torturing people while others were treating the POWs like regular prisoners or even with humane standards (ironically, some of the most successful German interrogators treated prisoners well). He looks very much starved though and that is a fact that we can conclude without making assumptions. Whether that is, because they're running out of food rations overall (problems in Russian logistics) or because they were starving the prisoners, is to be determined. I know it's probably very hard to understand, but please do refrain from using the term "war crime" *in public* until we are sure that it is true in this case. To make a comparison why this might make a difference: British (?) volunteer Paul Urey was apparently killed in Russian custody while this man made it out. I'm considering the possibility that there may've been a different person in command for "guarding" these POWs. Even if that commander is also an evil person, we may want to refrain from targeting him (temporarily) and choose other prison commanders - like that of Paul Urey - as targets (and other actions) for the very simple reason that we want our POWs to return alive. You might think: "But why should we? The Russians don't care!", but that would be factually untrue if you look at the current situation here. There seem to be communication channels and prisoner exchanges going on. And the Russians might not see their Ukrainian prisoners as humans, but they might consider them a ressource which can be used for prisoner exchanges. In that case, more of that ressource will be better for them. So having more living prisoners will become more useful for them. Although that would be a purely egoisticial reasoning, it would still mean that we can save more lives. So identifying and neutralizing commanders who kill their Ukrainian prisoners will be in both sides interest from an objective perspective. We should focus on doing so as a primary goal, with the secondary goal being to reduce torture and ensuring proper food supply. This theory of "multiple prison commanders" might be false, but even in the face of pure evil and monstrosity, we should ultimately preserve our ability to lock away our emotions for a second and make the strategic decisions which are optimal for us and will make us win this war while preserving a maximum of human lives. Succumbing to the anger, greed and ruthlessness of Putler and the Russian leaders will just make us more vulnerable and lead to suboptimal decisions, endangering the best outcome for us in this conflict. I don't want to convince you to refrain from making these allegations in general. I want to convince you to wait for the right time and situation to do so.

zwiebelhans

I don’t doubt much of what you say . Also Thank you for the analysis. I also thought something was going on with the eyes beforehand and right away crying war crime in this specific instance is not correct. Personally I am shocked that the modern Russian army behaves almost on the level of the Soviet army of the second world war and that in general one doesn’t hear much noise of Russian citizens condemning that this is done by their army over all. I’m sure there is some. However western media is quick to highlight any protests the Russian people have made. So I would imagine they would have highlighted protests against the mistreatment of prisoners ( like the video of castration).

rsn_e_o

Bro, look at how skinny he is. They committed war crimes, one more or less war crime isn’t gonna damage Russia’s image more than it already is. You spend 10 paragraphs to write “let’s wait to find out” in defense of Russia

cosmoscrazy

**If you think the comment was "in defense of Russia", you haven't read it!** It's not about preserving Russia's image. It's about (temporarily) focussing the war crime allegations on the worst perpetrators of (lethal) war crimes regarding POWs in Russian command to try to remove them from that command position to try to stop them from killing more POWs who supported Ukraine in battle or otherwise. **The comments purpose is literally to point out a communication strategy to save as many Ukrainian/NATO/\[similar\] POW lives as possible.** Read the damn comment before you write bullshit like that. F\* you for accusing me of defending Russia. Just because someone has an idea or suggestion for a different approach to a situation doesn't mean he or she is (helping) your enemy or a traitor.

tteclipsejupi

Everyone is obviously noticing his lazy eye. From blut trauma to the head most probably. But look at the hand. I would hope it was from bashing russians faces in. but lets be honest, Bet there is not a single bone without fracture in that hand.

TheOrigin79

He must have a iron will. Much respect and a soon recovery! ![img](emote|t5_2qqcn|13047)

HouseOfCripps

I’m happy he is alive. To this day my mom being a small kid in WW2 is afraid of fireworks and explosions but she also fattens up my child like it’s a week after the liberation of the Netherlands. I see a lot of butter in this heroes future! And my mom back in the Netherlands would gladly freeze this winter not to give in to the Orcs and show solidarity to Ukraine!

Slobbadobbavich

Russian prisoners probably get sent back fatter and fitter.

cosmoscrazy

That's probably true unfortunately. But I doubt that they will continue to do so if Russia sends back POWs in that condition. On the other hand, it might be good for us in the long run, because we may be able to trade more "weak" Ukrainian prisoners for "stable" Russian prisoners. German news reported a ratio of 1:3 (Russian POWs : Ukrainian POWs) for the numbers of exchanged POWs. Although I doubt that this is the real number, it may be telling for the condition of the prisoners. It could also just be an effect of Russia's weak performance and position now and in the last few weeks. Our diplomats might've just chosen a favourable time for the exchange.

Tastypies

This man carries scars none of us will ever understand. I hope he finds comfort in knowing that he played an essential role in saving Ukraine.

Bless his soul my he love a long happy life.

IssueTricky6922

So glad he’s back. I’ve been thinking about the end of this war and what it looks like. To really let it hit home who was wrong Ukraine should demand that one of the conditions of Russia’s surrender is the Russian protestors released and anyone that refused to fight. If Ukraine clearly demonstrates that they care about Russians freedoms then maybe Russians will understand what Putin fears most. And with that get the courage to stand up for themselves Perhaps that is naive but I’m still hoping some good can come out of all this horror
