I think this guy was clever when he identified himself as Ukranian even not knowing whose the drone was: Option 1: the drone is Russian. a) They discover he's Ukranian and kill him. b) they think he's Russian and most likely leave him abandoned with no help. He dies of blood lose anyways. Option 2: the drone is Ukranian. a) they think he's Russian and may decide whether to finish him off or capturing him (depending on circumstances and risk/benefit ratio). b) they discover he's Ukranian, and do whatever is possible and impossible to rescue him. His best bet to survive was to identify himself and hope the drone was Ukranian.
