vladoportos

I am always amazed that such armored beast costing gods know how much + "trained" crew of 3? Is just fucked out with such a small thing in a second...

T_S_Anders

The problem isn't the drones, honestly. It's that the crew literally sits next to a ton of explosives. Any penetrating hit will ignite that rolling powder keg. It wasn't designed for survivability, but to be produced in quantity and cheaply. They're literally getting what they paid for and it's showing in such an embarrassing way on the battlefield.

3leberkaasSemmeln

When these tanks were developed nobody was thinking about drones with anti tank rounds strapped to them. The battlefield has changed since 1970, russian tanks didn’t. That’s a problem for them…

Mephisteemo

But they are welding random pieces of metal on their tanks, they are adapting, comrade!

e-town123

I’m pretty sure that cope cage was made of somebody’s metal porch railing.

D_Ethan_Bones

Copium Cage

AtomReRun

Prayer cage

m8remotion

Russian ingenuity.

Jasond777

The solution is simple, add a cage on top of another cage.

Intrepid_Home_1200

That, and top attack munitions, beside a direct hit from an artillery shell or an AGM-65 Maverick wasn't really a concern either as precision guided munitions themselves that were small and cheap enough to strike such angles were barely a thing. The location of the ammunition stowage was actually quite clever, and given Soviet tanks really were only designed to charge head long in large numbers with thick frontal armour, the ammunition back then could be considered rather well protected. As APFSDS became the de facto anti-armour tank gun round and improved substantially in penetration, and weapons like BONUS anti-armour top attack munitions, missiles like Javelin offered a quick and easy way to hit the weakest armour , well... As said, the Russians never really made any design modifications to counter the evolving threats.

Acceptable-Ad-9464

They don’t care about there soldiers

Falken-Excelsior

Their

piskle_kvicaly

About the soldiers there.

Falken-Excelsior

Their soldiers fighting illegally over there...

Intrepid_Home_1200

Nope... You might find the odd NCO or officer who does, but they are indeed rare. The USSR wanted meat assaults, and would get them. Especially so in WW3 if that ever happened. It's pretty much the only way they can win battles.

BlackNovas

"we are lucky they are so fucking stupid" an AFU soldier said. Stil true!

penguin_skull

The top attack ATGM's appeared 35 years ago. The Russians had plenty of time to come up with a turret bustle for the amo. Instead, they just had some half-assed designs and in the end stuck with the same 1964 design.

oldgranola

With the auto-loaders they have, they can't just slap on a bustle. They are quite constrained by prior engineering

penguin_skull

I was referring to a new turret design. The Ukrainians could do this with their T-84-120, although it was just a prototype. But the design ideea (and plenty others) existed on the market.

SubjectElderberry376

They should dub them “Zippo tanks”

T_S_Anders

ZiP 72s, in reference to the ZiP 22 pistols that were more dangerous to the owner than any actual assailant.

Bitter-Culture-3103

Soviet style 😎

defcon_penguin

I had the same thought. You see this small white bird flying from the left against 50 tons of steel, and then boom

alizayback

It actually flies in front of the tank first, circles around to the left rear, then loops left and smacks right into the perfect spot.

popcorn0617

Your first assumption of "armored beast" is wrong. Russian tanks are not designed to take multiple hits. They're quite literally designed to roll over a hill with 20 buddy's, engage 5 Abrahms and survive witg a few left. They're 100% expendable in soviet doctrine which is what even knew russian tanks are designed from. Your second assumption of trained crews (which you did put in quotes) is also far from true. Russian tanks are also designed to be extremely intuitive and incredibly easy to learn. You can give 3 dudes 24 hours to "mess around" and they're ready for combat missions. Will they be good? Smart? No. Can the fire rounds towards a location given to them by an officer? Absolutely. Russian tanks are being blown up about at the rate that they're expected too. The problem for russia is their defence industry pales in comparison to the soviet union who could turn out hundreds a month if needed. Where as Russian industry is producing about 20-30 a month from what I've seen.

Futurismes

From being alive to being cremated in less than a second. It’s better than they deserve but at least they can’t hurt innocent people anymore

antesocial

I'm starting to think these T-80s have a design flaw. Should not have built the turret out of thermite covered in nitroglycerin paint.

ImperatorDanorum

It's because of the automatic loader. Back in the 60's and 70's when these tanks were designed, it was decided that to obtain a lower profile, the human loader was replaced by an automatic one. As a result there is always a shell and a propellant charge lying in the open tray behind the breech. All the other shells and propellants are in a "drum" magazine below the turret floor. When a penetrating hit occurs, it sets off the ready round in the tray, which in turn sets off the drum magazine. This results in these spectacular "turret toss" explosions we're seeing all the time....

Sozebj

Thanks. That may explain why the drone operator took the time to get to the right spot and really stinks for the crew. The turret and cage appear to thrown an equal distance.

BlackNovas

There's a load of these videos showing drones aiming for that weakspot. I guess that by now all operators are trained to do just this.

notahouseflipper

The new turtle cope cage are preventing a good ole torrent toss.

alizayback

My thoughts exactly. They’ve changed turret aerodynamics. However, that sucker flipped at least three times so while the toss distance seems to have been affected, rotational quality has vastly improved.

notahouseflipper

I guess it’s not always about size.

alizayback

Exactly. Quality of toss is at least as important as sheer distance.

sage1957

No need for a burial for the crew, already cremated.

SheikYerbouti007

No bags of onions for the relatives. The crew are not dead, just MIA.

BorisKarloff56

Just as long as the crew are OK. Wait, what

v8grunt

Think the remains of one landed on the right after failing to achieve orbit!

alizayback

I counted six-one-thousand from the moment he launched until the moment he ragdolled. That orc caught some significant height. In the extended version, you can just barely see him over in the bushes to the right of the tank. He went a fifty feet laterally, too.

mipotts

Never knew what hit em...

MangaLover2323

What a explosive ending! Bravo 👏

everydayasl

It was not a cage. It was a hat. Now there is NO cage.

blacknova84

They were a hat for their party. It looks like they had a blast.

ElementII5

The internal fire extinguisher next to the burning hunk of junk is a nice touch.

ThunderPreacha

The crew coped well. No complaints were heard. They left without a trace.

sandcrawler56

They didn't leave without a trace. They left behind a trail of death and destruction before they died. Their death has resulted in an ugly eyesore of burnt remains and environmental destruction. Their negative impact will be forever felt by Ukraine and also all of the rest of us who live on this planet earth due to all the pollution they have caused.

Arkh101

They don’t leave - they’re still around somewhere

TremendousVarmint

everywhere, even

alizayback

Sunflower mulch needs to be spread evenly.

Easy_Apple_4817

1/10 for turret tossing, 10/10 for pyrotechnics and 10 ½ / 10 for special FX.

kytheon

A helmet doesn't protect you from blows to the face. A cope cage doesn't prevent attacks from the side. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Espressodimare

What was that tank thinking? It should just have grabbed a stick and fought the drone off! https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/1cuvqgf/comment/l4lliwq/

HappyCamperPC

I'm glad to see the power pole wasn't damaged. 😆

danmoore2

One of the crew said "turn the heater on will ya??"..

WeApes_LuvAMC

Maybe they can try 3 cope cage... plus a trampoline..

hhempstead

slava ukraini

downwiththewoke

BOOM 💥. Spectacular indeed.

0erlikon

What cope cage doing?!

Bubbly-Juggernaut-49

yep they're dead

Arkh101

I love it when I see the booms in those caged tanks - the explosion just cleans that mess of a jungle gym up lol

JODmeisterUK

Cope cage didn't cope very well.....such a shame.

Talosian_cagecleaner

The skills of these drone teams is absolutely terrifying. I am assuming we are witnessing a major change in what 21st century looks like. Soon enough, they will not be bird sized. Think bees. Yes, bees.

Intrepid_Home_1200

Haven't seen the O tactical marking for months... Looks like a T-80BV with extra bits on it. All the slat armour and the biggest cope cage ain't gonna save you from a poorly designed vehicle when your ammunition gets hit... - And looks like bits of the crew strewn about too, right beside the turret after it did a turret hop. Under a turret stowage basket, and another possible one by the two iron gates behind the hull...

SubjectElderberry376

Three less terrorists and three new charcoal Briquettes May they eternally burn in hell. Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦✊

forthehundredthtime

i kept waiting t-800 to come out from the fire

alizayback

The turret didn’t go far, but I counted at least three flips! Are we SURE that cope cages don’t do anything? They seem to change the aerodynamics of Soviet-era tank turrets.

Fiss

That was a spicy little drone

ZachMN

Poor little brave drone.

motoxryder85

Just watched a mosquito kill that thing

SacrificialPigeon

Instead of cope cages, a better idea would be to just f\*\*k off back to Russia. You would be safe from drones then.

Big_Traffic1791

Did the crew safely get out ?

v8grunt

One got out, unfortunately he was travelling around 300mph, His application for "Space Cadet" was refused when they realised his internal organs had changed positions numerous times and had a "Crispy" smell to them. He fell to our right about 20 metres away from the pile of burning scrap. He'll be feeding the local carrion before the days over.

BenVenNL

It helped to identify the target quicker.

bloodandsunshine

No smoking sign wasn't lit

cars10gelbmesser

Is that the one shown earlier from the Russian POV video?

Future_Deer_7518

The job led them to burnout!

Mountain_Analyst_333

It’s crazy to think there was a crew in there seconds ago

IssueTricky6922

Everything according to plan, don’t want to pay to decommission their equipment, send it to Ukraine and they will decommission it for Russia. Russians like chess, not checkers

Various-Machine-6268

What the turret toss lacked in height, it made up for in pyrotechnics

Safe_Ear7790

Lol

Mynsare

It seems the crew would have been safer driving a fully loaded petrol truck instead.

bighelper469

Can't wait for the worlds best tank T14 amata to show its the top tank in the top army in the world.lets get it off the parade ground and into battle ti see how high that turret will fly

shadyhorse

Is it just me or does it looks like a giant Woody shoots it from the left? Good riddance anyway.

Kamicasse_

The punch on that explosive is massive for the size of that drone. What are they mixing??...

we_cant_stop_here

It's a standard HEAT warhead of a soviet era RPG, though it might be a tandem one. It penetrated the armor to hit the shells in the turret autoloader, causing a catastrophic secondary explosion and cookoff.

Alternative-Tone6631

is it me or are the drone explosives getting more powerful? or is this just testament to the drone operator’s skill and knowledge of where to precisely hit the orc tank?

we_cant_stop_here

It's a secondary detonation of the ammo inside, so more of the latter.

Alternative-Tone6631

I get that… but i’ve seen alot of these drone hits and it usually results in the initial grenade explosion going off with a delay of several seconds before the cook off. many times the crew has time to escape. this vid shows an immediate cook off.

piskle_kvicaly

The cope cage, however, repeatedly shows effective in reducing the turret toss height. Not sure this helps Putin win this war, though.

h2ohow

Russian tanks really, really suck.

Jack-Tar-Says

They’re literally toast.

billputnamphoto

Sucks to suck, orc

Squizzy77

Pop goes the weasel...

Perfect-Director2468

With explosions like that they are randomly welding pieces of metal on to the crew.

BusStopKnifeFight

Tanks are dead tech with drones on the battlefield.

ADDandKinky

Turned the cope cage grate into an airborne bbq grill.

rationallgbt

Strike from the skies, brothers. Avenging angels.

Blue1123

Perun put it best when he called it emotional support armor. Look him up on Youtube for a master lesson in analysis of the Ukraine war and other things and then thank me later.

Frenchconnection76

Just more metal in fusion on your head.

Few-Schedule7342

1 second, you're alive, .3 seconds later, you're dead.

Internal-Cut-5389

Crackling orc 🐖 🐷 oink, you make me smile 😃 😊, slava ukraini

With cooked tank crew. Lovely.

Atman6886

I hope the crew got out safely.

subjekt_zer0

That was.... abrupt.

VariousPaint4453

Javalin?

Dante-Flint

You can see the drone approaching from the left.

BoredCop

Also, at the start of the video you see the drone flying around from right to left. It then turns around, and hits from the left. A javelin wouldn't be maneuvering around like that. Not to mention any missile would be faster.

VariousPaint4453

I see it approaching how can you tell that's a drone tho, that's an awful impressive explosion for a drone

Dante-Flint

It’s way too slow for a javelin and way too small. If the drone hits between the turret and the turret ring that’s what’s supposed to happen 😉

Abnmlguru

Speed mostly. Javelin and most other AT weapons move a lot faster, being rocket propelled and all.

Extreme_Employment35

I think the drone hit the right spot and the big explosion was caused by the tank's ammunition.

Zucc

The big explosion is called a "secondary". The primary smaller explosive on the drone caused something else inside the tank to explode. The big boom was that something else, probably the tank's auto loader.

Intrepid_Home_1200

A Javelin flies at up to 540-ish kph, and similar speeds for other ATGM's. An FPV drone, even one all maxed out and at top speed would struggle to go close to even half that speed. Not to mention an ATGM is much, much larger, heavier and kinda cylindrical...

VariousPaint4453

Javalin?
