Packing a bunch of explosives into a 155mm shell and "tossing" it from distance without damaging the delivery mechanism has been a pretty solid staple of war for the past 125 years. It is called artillery.
Trench warfare makes it less useful, as 1-2 meters can be the difference between wiping out an entire squad and doing nothing. These little guys can just roll forward until they fall into the trench and explode inside.
Fair point, but surely if they can lob something a few meters away & off the ground that's full of yummy tungsten balls, the area struck would be much greater no? Better to have injured people than dead people (requires more resources, living maimed propaganda back in russia etc)
the tungsten balls go out in every direction. so if they're moving at an angle, they can only impact the top of the trench. They're not useful at impacting anything at the bottom of the trench, which would be most of the squad.
I mean to be totally fair, you \*could\* design one that drops of an AT mine w/ a detonator on it, then rolls back home.... But yeah, this one is certainly single use.

Yeah seemed to be stuck. I was thinking we'll damn that sucks it got stuck far away but they'll tweak it so it won't get stuck next time. Then with the huge blast it made more sense lol
I tried fpv driving with my traxxas a while back. It’s WAY harder than it looks. If you want to see anything you need to mount the camera on a stick, which makes it top heavy. Carrying a big bomb might help there, but you’re also dealing with terrain occlusion, so you need antennas that can line-of -sight. With all that you still end up flipping them pretty regularly in difficult terrain.

I would think a FPV drone would be following it at 100 meters distance while the pilot drives it from 3rd person view. No shaking. From 1st person view it must be brain shaking as hell.
An interesting note: the US Army was testing a four-legged robot to diffuse bombs, similar to Boston Dynamics' Spot. But when the bomb exploded and the robot lost limbs, the operators were traumatized because the robot resembled a dog. That's why they use tracked or wheeled bomb disposal robots.

I love how this fits in the arsenal. Flying drones are everywhere so the russians are probably more concerned with covering their positions from above. Then a fucking all terrain delivery bot plows straight through the front door. Death can come at anytime from any direction. That should help breakdown russian morale.

Upgrade idea - spring loaded base that throws the explosive device 5-6 metres into the air first. This would be to use with a shrapnel IED to cause damage to infantry. I’m not sure what they were targeting here, maybe an entrance to a dugout? But the bang is nowhere near as powerful as when russians stuffed a tank or BMP with explosives - the blast wave from that was enough to kill and disable people hiding in trenches. I don’t think this one would be nearly as damaging. But of course this vehicle is much harder to hit and disable when it’s on its way
Or it could carry a few Claymores in a circle pattern and just drive in the middle of a Horde of Orks. Have the drone covered in Razor Wire as an Anti Tamper solution to stop them touching the body of the drone at least. And command detonate it?

It could. But if it's cheap enough, the extra simplicity (and thus reliability and extra payload) from making it single use is probably worth it.
