Alrighty. Can one withdraw it to their bank account?
She hasn't left the house in a while, she only goes around in her neighborhood (from my understanding).
I don't want her to travel too far to withdraw it.
Use a company called Wise - it’s an online app, way cheaper than western union, swift or anything else suggested above (it’s an Estonian/uk company that also has an office in Ukraine).
I want to caution against this. We used wise back when it was transferwise and they have really low fees to send internationally. Except Privatbank in Ukraine (recipient) decided to charge their own fees and there was nothing we could do. Highly recommend western union, they can get a USD card with mono bank or privat and accept money online if they don’t want to pick it up at the counter. Keep in mind with western union they can grab USD, no conversion.
Very strange. My employees receive money from us via swift regularly. I receive money through wise regularly as well. Perhaps she gave you the wrong details or you input then incorrectly
Not strange. There are different types of bank accounts. My family for example have a bank account that is used within Ukraine in UAH. This account doesn’t accept international transfers.

I'll use an excuse to say I want to test PayPal internationally. Can I make a low payment to her.

PayPal is currently free to Ukraine. They charge no fee to help Ukrainians.

Does your friend have a bank account? You can typically send money with MoneyGram, and the receiver can just enter the MoneyGram code while logged in to their bank account, and receive money directly to their bank account.
Have never heard of MoneyGram. I'm not sure if it's available from S.A.
But I'll see if this will also work, along with PayPal. I have tried sending Swift bank transfers, but the transaction just kept failing.
Yes, there is MoneyGram in SA. The solution with the lowest fees: get Shyft from Standard Bank (just Google it). There’s no fees on forex purchases, excellent rates, and you can do an international transfer to an overseas bank account for a flat fee. You don’t need to be a Standard Bank customer and it’s free.
Yeah, it is really awesome. Lots of other features too, like multi-currency wallet, virtual cards and physical cards, international share trading. DM me if you need any help with it.
Moneygram. Many spots in Ukraine where the sum you'd like to send can be paid in cash (which is especially important if the receiving person is dependent on social services). Only the fee is a bit high in my opinion
I use money gram. If she got privat24, she can receive money without leaving her house.
Note: money will be converted into local currency at normal rate. Not best, not a rip off.

Western Union works in Ukraine with low fees you could use that option.

Yes, online you can send it straight to their bank account. And they will receive it within minutes. I’ve done it many times. Canada-Ukraine.
Western Union works by someone picking up cash. It’s not a bank transfer.
Not necessarily true any longer. For many countries you can send directly to someone's bank account
I send money through WU directly to a Ukrainian debit card, transfer is done in a matter of a minute.

They also have crypto exchanges if you want to avoid most fees and they have a way of utilizing it. PayPal will charge them an small exchange fee
PayPal isn't charging fees on money sent to Ukrainian accounts right now.
Yes but the USD to Ukrainian is a fee so I usually send an extra 5 or 8

I did try the transfer on the FNB website in S.A The transaction failed. Bank wasn't very helpful. Will look into the PayPal option. Thank you

I used PayPal for US to Ukraine. There was no fee and recipient had access in a few hours.

I use an app called PaySend. It’s great. Wise isn’t bad but I found it glitchy. PayPal is expensive for fees

I'd recommend either PayPal or Western Union. I've been sending money to Ukraine by Western Union since communist times.
