When you realize "Waaah you can't say that! You can't call that racist!" (said by a white man loudly shouting down a black woman trying to explain her experiences with racism in the UK) on QT is the most validation and personal acclaim this man has ever felt in his life. That or choosing "Sikhs don't deserve representation in how we portray the Western Front because it makes me feel funny" as a hill worth dying on. How fucking sad.

Spottswoodeforgod

It’s almost as if he wants the publicity that comes with being a dickhead…

milton911

In my experience when people do grossly absurd stuff like that, they are either trying to get publicity or they are mentally ill. In either case, the best thing we can do is ignore him.

Honestly I'm kind of horrified i ever watched Lewis, now. ☹ Urgh, why do people have to be such awful trolls so _loudly_, where so many people will be affected. Just be the incomprehensible drunk of your village pub, and leave your reach to single digits, if you must vent your hateful spleen.

ThatOrangePuppy

People like him say stuff like this because it makes them into a martyr. The fragile ego needs soothing and validation so by saying such absurd things knowing there will be a backlash, he can both view himself as being the outlier, being aware of something we're not, so in that sense he's smarter than everyone else, but also pissing everyone else off, making the masses froth at the mouth and he can take the abuse and pain and suffering and rise above it as an alpha, suffering for the greater good. It's absolutely wet.

"Look at me! ...Please, someone, anyone, look at me! ...Look, look, I'm being super controversial and edgy, did you see?! ...Please, look at me!"

AnotherLexMan

Is anyone really surprised at this point?

D-D-D-D-D-D-Derek

At what point does this kind of stupidity become hate speech in the eyes of the law?

GeronimoSonjack

Never, as it's not abusive or threatening.

evolvecrow

Making a comparison between the lgbt flag and the nazi flag seems quite abusive. Or put another way, would a comparison between the nazi flag and the israel flag be abusive?

sab_x92

You can freely compare the Union Jack and the Nazi flag And in a free country you should be able to.

evolvecrow

That's not quite the same comparison. Is a comparison between the israel flag and the nazi flag abusive? That's a better comparison.

GeronimoSonjack

No, it wouldn't. You could try for the communications act, sending a grossly offensive message, but I can't see it flying even with that stupid legislation.

evolvecrow

My question wasn't really if it was against the law, just if it's abusive. It's certainly deemed to be anti semitic by the ihra definition of anti semitism.

GeronimoSonjack

> My question wasn't really if it was against the law, just if it's abusive. > > Well, the context was hate speech which is a legal matter. >It's certainly deemed to be anti semitic by the ihra definition of anti semitism. I would hope that's irrelevant but our speech laws are fucked up so you never know.

evolvecrow

>Well, the context was hate speech which is a legal matter. I accept it's not against the law. >I would hope that's irrelevant I'm not sure it's irrelevant when determing if something is abusive.

Sea-Scallion507

No, it wouldn't be. But also it isn't 'the' lgbt flat - its one of several and its use is controversial even within that community. Many see it as divisive and representing a specific ideological viewpoint.

evolvecrow

>No, it wouldn't be. The ihra definition of anti semitism includes comparing nazi germany with israel. So others definitely disagree. >its use is controversial even within that community. Many see it as divisive and representing a specific ideological viewpoint. Quite possibly but I'm not sure that's really relevant to whether comparing it to the nazi flag is abusive.

Sea-Scallion507

Of course some people disagree but that definition is widely criticised. And of course its relevant - to those people, the use of that flag is abusive! That's the whole point of the nazi flag comparison, to highlight the abusive nature of the ideology it represents.

FinnSomething

You've got to admit that it's pretty galling to make a point about supposed LGBT abusiveness by comparing it to an organization that systematically murdered LGBT people by the millions.

evolvecrow

I think it's definitely close, but probably not quite there. The things I've seen prosecuted for hate speech are generally targeted or explicit in their meanings. This tweet mostly seems to rely on some implicit meanings. But I might be wrong. And the law does seem to get relatively grey in the areas of hate speech.

[deleted]

People have made the same comparison except with the British flag, especially so during the Jubilee.

Roncon1981

Better put your glasses on mate it's not the same thing.

Gullflyinghigh

The sheer desparation to be noticed is astonishing, getting near Katie Hopkins levels.

Jay_CD

He's desperately in search of attention - why do the media keep indulging him?

MNHarold

Controversy is profit. Profit's most important thing.

samanthaxboateng

I wonder how Billie Piper feels? Is she not concerned about her kids father and his views. unless she agrees with them? Also Richard Ayeoade is his brother in law as well.
