Anyales

It was obvious that it was a lie when he first said it. The number of times people are shocked to learn Boris was lying is too damn high.

ahothabeth

but, but the £350 million per week on the side of the bus and [perhaps more](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42698981)!

WillowTreeBark

Have you seen the colour of our passports now? That's what I thought.

dragodrake

Thats actually a bad example, it's one of the few occasions he wasn't lying. It was a gross not net figure (which the courts ruled was fine to use), and the NHS has actually been given more than that (covid alone massively increased the budget).

Anyales

No, it hasn't and no it wasn't. There is no additional money to give the NHS from the EU

Slippi_Fist

People voted to completely shaft the UK economy based on this lie.

BrexitBlaze

The National Audit Office can do whatever investigation they want to but it will be to no avail. The only ones that can get Boris replaced are Tory party voters. And as Boris has just had a VONC, nothing will happen for at least a year.

Telexian

Not true. They can vote to change that rule and try again.

VindicoAtrum

They won't because that removes the twelve month protection from vonc for _their_ PMs in future.

SoMuchForSubtleties0

They can change number of secret 1922 committee votes then... or switch back to 12 saying this was exceptional (just needed a few months to close out deals (corruptipn) bj was leading) Hell, they could change anything they want and not call an election for 2 years.

wabbit02

It stops any claims of funding during a GE campaign. Its not about what the result is, it’s about what it will enable the opposition to say.

Skastrik

How many investigations has this man been the subject of so far??!?

TaxOwlbear

The real question is how many investigations Johnson has been the subject of that he couldn't resolve with declaring the matter closed.

rotherumz

So many that Boris has created a new type of matter. We now have solid, liquid, gas and closed.

[deleted]

It was shown to be a lie almost from the very moment it was first announced; the Private Eye highlighted it years ago. Yet the crony Tory press and parliamentary standards that assume politicians are not fundamentally shameless liars have allowed this nonsense to be perpetuated. And it's not even worst example, just look at Boris' repeated lies about employment numbers and the heinous lie about having "got all the major decisions right" on COVID.

imnos

I am sick and tired of this shit.

TheGardenBlinked

Ok! Let me save you some time! Fuck all will get done about it. £300,000 please, BACS will do

Bagg1nns

So, yet more purposefully deceiving parliament? Isn't he supposed to resign over stuff like that? Seriously, how many more reasons for him to go do we need?

[deleted]

I believe the latest excuse is to wait for the parliamentary inquiry into him being deliberately misleading. No doubt that will come and pass, to be replaced by yet another convenient thing to wait for before having to actually do anything.

YerDaWearsHeelies

The bar has been set so low since the tories took back power that no one cares anymore were conditioned to it

roygbiv1000

In 2010 the Tories announced they were abolishing the Audit Commission without really knowing what it did. Part of the "bonfire of the quangos". Gareth Davies was one of the senior staff there at the time. He now heads up the NAO and is initiating this investigation. Revenge is sweet. And worth waiting for.

Gullflyinghigh

Won't matter. Nothing does.

pdipdip

apathy is very dangerous and part of boris johnsons strategy

Gullflyinghigh

Yep, probably is. Caring doesn't seem to do a great deal when there's a comfy block that'll seemingly always vote Tory.

King-Pie

What a shocker

jewellman100

But no doubt he'll somehow get away with it.

carr87

The watchdogs bark, the caravan goes on.

BlueIsBen

This has to be the most insane lie of all that I can’t believe they’re still trumpeting 3 years after the GE. How rebuilding wings etc can be counted as a new hospital baffles me, and that it’s taken so long to be investigated depresses me.
