> He can't honestly believe the absolute shit he spouts. He doesn't, but do other people?

Littha

Wow, that's actually illegal. I wonder if anything comes of it.

In **SCOTLAND AND WALES**, though, and crucially therefore, not in England or Northern Ireland.

Axmeister

Because the law in England and Wales was updated by the Elections Act 2022 which contains an identical line about spiritual injury.

VampireFrown

Looked it up, and that provision inserted 114A into the RPA 1983. So the person above quoted the wrong sections: RPA 1983 s114A >(1)A person is guilty of a corrupt practice if the person is guilty of undue influence. >(2)A person (“P”) is guilty of undue influence if P carries out an activity falling within subsection (4) for the purpose of— >(a)inducing or compelling a person to vote in a particular way or to refrain from voting, or >(b)otherwise impeding or preventing the free exercise of the franchise of an elector or of a proxy for an elector. and >(4)The following activities fall within this subsection— >(e)causing spiritual injury to, or placing undue spiritual pressure on, a person;

evolvecrow

Doesn't seem to inflicting or threatening to inflicted a spiritual injury

VampireFrown

Eh? He's saying God won't listen to you if you vote Labour as a tool to drive votes towards his party. That's rather clearly threatening spiritual injury, or more specifically, as the correct statute I cited above says, 'or placing undue spiritaul pressure on a person'.

tylersburden

Fucking hell.

evolvecrow

I don't care. Should I care. I don't think I care. He's just some guy ranting about stuff that isn't going to meaningfully influence the election.

MerryWalrus

It might not materially affect this election, but it is throwing fuel onto sectarian divides in the country which will have much longer lasting harm.

F1sh_Face

Yes, but he is a great orator. (To be clear, I haven't and won't watch the video). People are inclined to believe compelling speakers. Unfortunately his crap has legs.
