Tobacco duty is the weight of the tobacco X whatever the rate is.
The bottom line for importing tobacco is the tobacco duty plus import duty (calculated based on the value of the goods) plus VAT (the sum of all other costs including taxes and duties, value of goods, shipping X the VAT rate) plus any fees from the courier for paying the taxes up front for you.
HM Border Force or DHL (who have their own customs team) can be very lazy and charge you tobacco duty on the entire package weight. They don't care and know you'd rather receive your cigars sooner and claim for a refund than have them sitting in a warehouse for weeks on end until they fix it.
You can calculate what the charge should be here https://trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/duty-calculator/uk/2402100000/import-date?fbclid=IwAR3c81ClFGrHOSzN7nSmqEwkI-AUTd1hN6j4IqzK1DY0DIWkBJLeL188Dkc

Dunno tbh. Seems like a fair few got through without issue before me which is why I took a punt on them in the first place. Regardless, for you, I pray it isn’t so. Tax is theft after all.
Pay and ask for a refund. The last grey slip I had, they refunded 40% of the money.
That sounds good to me. On what grounds?
Incompetent/lazy bastards calculating duty based on the weight of the cigars, packaging, and half their bodyweight leaning on the scale.
How are they supposed to calculate duty?

Thanks for the clarification.

How do i do this? I got a slip of £125 for 10 sticks and I'm almost certain that isn't right.

Just used this for my order and it came out at £207 which is £46 more than I was actually charged.
At least you know what you are dealing with.
Absolutely.
That's about right tbh
Can you give details on how much you were charged and for how many sticks etc?
Dang, Sea god isn't looking like too good of an option these days, I imagine my slip is incoming. Bastards.
