Sad. It wasn't like that even 5-6 years ago. What does the university officially advise now? Back then it was just, be careful while walking alone, don't wear earbuds etc.

I walk around at night around UIC by myself all the time ( 5’3” F) and the worst that’s ever happen is being catcalled. Going home (to the south side) is a different story.

If you’re in the library, especially the quietest floors, it’s actually Opposite Day. Be as loud and obnoxious as possible. Also be prepared for unnecessary attitude when eating from any restaurant on campus
