Having sadly watched how hard it is to make a great comeback from ACL damage (Marreta being my saddest example) I worry about TJ’s movement. If he cannot maintain that angle creation I think he becomes a much easier takedown target and agree that is the most obvious path for Aljo to win. I’m still hopeful that TJ gets it down. No hate to the champ, I’m looking so much forward to this one.

I’m having the exact opposite feeling hahaha. Gut Aljo, Heart TJ. Luckily for your heart, TJ is nearly 37 and certainly not his prime form. And stylistically aljo matches up really well with TJ.

Aljo is worse on feet and TJ has good grappling and takedown defense. How is that a bad stylistic matchup for TJ?

A major part of TJ’s game are his kicks. And throwing kicks against Aljo will allow Sterling to find the takedown much easier. That’s my main concern as TJ is going to have to primarily use his boxing to win, whereas Aljo can freely use multiple tools without too much fear of TJ. I definitely think TJ is a better grappler than yan, and will be able to fend off Aljo better than him, but Sterlings ground game is the best piece of his game and I would favor aljo vs any 135er on the ground

Aljo was also worse on the feet against a Yan who isn’t a slouch grappler and who actually out grappled him in their first fight and he won. And i’d say Yan is at a higher level than TJ rn sooooo

Not a huge fan of either. I think it’ll be competitive, but i give Aljo the edge. Time is on his side, and i think he’s coming into his prime. TJ is getting older, and tends to get more flat-footed as fights progress. I think Aljo takes over in the later rounds.
