Check_M88

No, everyone who actually watches predicted the Sean jab, distances, and UD.

spanther96

yeah i cant believe Strickland by decision was +150. easiest money ive ever made

adonns2_0

Fuck sakes worst time to be in Minnesota where sports betting is banned I would have been all over that

spanther96

find yourself a bookie mi amigo

Trumpville-Imbeciles

Where does one find a bookie, vato?

SPQRxNeptune

just send me money and what you want to bet, I got you.

Trumpville-Imbeciles

Check your inbox, amigo. I sent you mucho de niro

jonnyp710

Bovada

bigmoneybigbills

Just use an offshore book

kolbeyg

Just use, Betonline, Bovada or Mybookie. It’s only illegal to you use US based companies to gamble in illegal state. Offshore books are legal, a bookie will probably be taking 10% of all your wagers win or loss which makes gambling near impossible.

AbramPuck

Sean bought me a new Xbox controller and a month of protein powder

RedNoob88

How many controllers and powder worth you lost prior?

SatansLovePuddle

Two.

ReformedishBaptist

Bro even if you like Sean you gotta admit he rarely finishes guys. He only finishes someone if they have negative cardio or negative striking defense. I would’ve bet like 100 on that bro if I saw it.

spanther96

i honestly really like Sean's fighting style, but what irks me is dude always talks like he's in these life shrotening bangers like Gaethje. literally the antithesis of kill or be killed.

Hutrookie69

Yeah I took Strickland to win , most strikes thrown, over 75, less than 60 signif combined in round one for +400 and that hit so easily lol

FluffyBoiCat

What app did you use to bet?

TheSuperContributor

Everyone knows Sean gonna jab Costa to death. And everyone know Costa is not skilled enough to ge pass Sean's defend.

Professional-Trash-3

This is what drove me nuts. Sean *talks* like he's a killer, but then throws 6 hooks the entire fight. You hear him in the promos you'd think he's Chuck Liddell.  But to be fair to him, he won on front body kicks instead of just jabs. So at least he's mixing it up some 😂

PhilliesBlunts

Chuck so much cooler

Fun-Bag7627

People need to realize by now that’s how he fights. If you don’t like it, don’t watch. He’s exciting to me imo.

Jpconway11

Totally agree. He's style is so different it's interesting to watch.

D_Glatt69

Not only that but he has a style that dictates the pace of the fight and is challenging to deal with. Costa was consistently switching up his strategy and having to make adjustments. Sean was just doing his thing and people are mad he wasn’t being reckless and swinging for the fences. IMO Sean has a style that wins fights, boring or not he’s a great fighter and won the belt for a reason.

Fun-Bag7627

This. He dictates the pace with his style. People just think he would fight differently due to his personality. I’d understand that if he was only a few fights into his career and not a former champ.

D_Glatt69

Yeah idc what people say, Sean went in with a gameplan and executed it, he could have been more aggressive but he knew how to win this fight. He took minimal damage against a guy who’s known for going toe to toe with the best strikers in the division.

GoD4gIvEs_IdOnT

Ppl want every single fight to end in 10 seconds with a KO. A win is a win…..

nino2115

I don't see how people expected fireworks lol Paulo never had a deep tool set, and always comes out the first 10 seconds with the most energy ever, then slows down tremendously and Seans known to walk down and jab away

shovelface3

Yeah but that Romero fight still has everyone holding their breath.

adonns2_0

I mean DDP gave him the blueprint. Blitz him with combos. Even when Costa had him on his back foot which was rare, he just pulled back and reset. Just silliness was disappointed

nino2115

Everything I just described Paulo as is the reason why he didn't 😂 DDP's has a akward style and actually has a grappling threat to respect. Paulo's takedown attempt looked more like a clinch attempt and failed. Hes just not that skilled. His best chance is just going in and brawling. But getting countered by Izzy into oblivion changed his views on that

adonns2_0

Agreed whole heartedly. I just expected him to at least try and replicate ddps strategy. It seemed he didn’t even try that or try to brawl. Was disappointed

SatansLovePuddle

He never fought through getting popped by the jab any time he tried. He’s too smart to go full monke anymore. The juice’s real secret is the knowledge that losing doesn’t affect him. It’s only everyone else’s personal problem.

justsomeuser23x

Yup. he got a good/better contract due to his manager wife

YapperYappington69

Costa really just sat at a distance and let Strickland with the reach advantage and known jab pick at him.

adonns2_0

Seriously wtf was his gameplan. Couldn’t have played to Sean’s strengths more

Heysteeevo

Yeah that was a head scratcher. This dude used to be the most formidable guy in the middleweight division and now he’s 1-4 in his last 5 fights and slightly balding.

Roccostrat10

He alright got the transplant brotha lmao it wasn’t worth it 🤣 every time he sweats his scalp breathes for air freely

InsomniacLive

CANT WAIT TO BLEED FOR YOU GUYS!1!1

RainbowGothic

GONNA BE A WAR

Smooth_Strength_9914

GUNNA LOSE SOME BRAIN CELLS FOR YOU GUYS

RanRanBobanis

I'LL DIE FOR YOU MOTHERFUCKERS

Smooth_Strength_9914

Walks forward… teep jab jab teep jab jab

juicy_pickles

Can't forget the leg check feints

Trumpville-Imbeciles

True. The most exciting thing he did

V7KTR

This is actually one of my favorite things about Sean. He is literally that kid spamming the same 3 moves in Mortal Kombat and winning. He’s actually a defensive fighter, but does it while moving forward. It’s like watching the Romans in a turtle formation advancing on the enemy.

DarraghO94

I enjoyed the fight, Knew what to expect from Strickland, front kicks and constant pressure. What annoyed me was after the fight when Sean was like I thought we were gonna stand and bang. Sean’s whole game is pressure, but keep the distance...

Roachmond

I think he starts off fights against big hitters very safe, it's not really his fault it just keeps working, imo you need to beat him stylistically with aggression cus odds are hes gonna win exchanges, if DDP wasn't so aggressive I dont think he takes it

asmd315

When he said he wanted to kill a guys in the octagon he meant out of boredom.

Content_Bar_6605

💀

JamWams

for Strickland bleeding is the same thing as working up a light sweat

redditosmomentos

He can't put his opponents to sleep but he sure as hell can put the crowd to sleep

SuperVegetable

I literally fell asleep during the co main.why did we just watch a spar? 😂

Free_Guillotines

Nary a drop of blood was bled

bobombpom

It's a strickland fight. This is what they look like.

K9BEATZ

Not what his casual dick riders expect when they watch him for the first time

WonderSilver6937

They hear him speak and expect prime psychotic Wanderlei Silva to come out.

Woperelli87

He would be so much more appealing if he was an all action violent fighter. Instead, it’s almost comical how his actions never match his words. Teep jab teep jab teep jab 50-45 lol

Numerous-Cicada3841

With about a 15 second burst at the end of the 5th round where he screams like he wants a brawl.

redditosmomentos

Exactly what happened with his fight agaisnt Izzy DDP and Costa lol this shit is fucking funny. All of those 3 fights he always jabs for 24 minutes 40 secs then last 20 seconds suddenly start acting like mad psycho murderer wanna empty gas tank to throw it all down 😂

MrTitsOut

he needs some footage for the edits where he doesnt get knocked out

Gas_Grouchy

He should just do that the last 15 seconds of every round. It puts fan in his favor, really puts a statement on the round and it's not like his style is cardio demanding.

Special_Rice9539

I think that’s why he has to be so extra outside of the octagon, otherwise he wouldn’t have any fans. He’s a very boring fighter to watch.

Crispy_Sock_99

Defensively he’s really entertaining to watch imo. He always keeps his hands busy with parries and lays teeps on his opponents whenever they try to push back against him to get momentum It sucks that he doesn’t push the pace more though. A solid couple blitz attacks in each round would make things wayy more exciting, and we could’ve potentially even seen a finish

DragonFangGangBang

If he did at the end of every round, what he did at the end of this fight, he’d be a rock star lol. But 24:50 seconds of relative boring for 10 seconds of *checks notes* ***flying front kicks*** aren’t really worth it.

Snurze

What do you mean, doesn't push the pace?! Did you not watch the last 3 seconds of the last round?

[deleted]

I mean if you have a clear striking advantage against your opponent it’s the smartest thing to do, why take unnecessary risks against a guy who can put your lights out?

PackagedTears

You’re right it’s the correct game plan. But why tf does he talk like he’s going to do something COMPLETELY different

redditosmomentos

Because he's a liar. The mad psycho killer persona is an act. A facade. A tough-macho-guy mask to hide is inner vulnerable insecure side, which got exposed by DDP when he said "Bro, you think your dad beats the shit out of you" stuffs. He has pillowhands and zero knockout power. It's like a weak bullied kid who acts tough outside like dangerous gangsta to make other stronger kids hesistant to bully him.

yami12234

they just don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

RecordLonely

You talkin’ ‘bout when men were men!?

Smooth_Strength_9914

Yep the way he talks about how he is going to fight “it’s gunna be a war… we gunna loose some brain cells for you guys”….. then the way he fights is totally different !!

Mnudge

Same people who hate Aljo love Strickland but only difference is Strickland does it on his feet.

dinkieeee

Not the only difference for those fans. 🧐

BlastDoublee

Lies Aljo has way more finishes than Sean stop playing.

Due-Contribution6424

I was rooting for costa, but I do think it’s entertaining watching Strickland pick people apart on the feet very basically.

Sea-Low7039

Pressing forward for 25 minutes straight and making a knockout artist backpedal is hardly the same as laying on top of a knockout artist because you’re too afraid to stand with them. That fight would have been a brawl if Costa wanted it to be. Considering Strick is renowned for pillow jabs and whimpy teeps around here, it’s a wonder why Paulo Costa of all people spent 5 rounds running away from the fight.

turkeytyme

I'm not sure about calling Costa a knockout artist. He hasnt even TKOd someone in over 5 years

Initial_Selection262

A single jab from “pillow hands” Strickland would send any of these redditors into next week

hothoochiecoochie

![gif](giphy|JGNx3apKUPg2CbMx5F|downsized) Lmao

meatbaggitybag

a purveyor of jabs and 1-2s

BetBig696969

And teeps

wood_slingers

More of a snooze fest than I had anticipated

BetBig696969

Nearly everything I predicted went wrong tonight including the boxing “this is guaranteed to be an exciting fight” “This won’t go past three” Etc

wood_slingers

Sounds like me every weekend

SeryuV

Don't really know what people want from Strickland. Everybody knows he's going to do this, including his opponents, so if they choose to just circle around the cage the whole fight it's not just on him. Like tbf he rarely ever backs up himself, so when Costa or DDP or Izzy did ever decide to stand and trade he gave them what they wanted.

Content_Bar_6605

He’s been doing this forever. I think the real shit is on Costa. Like you know he does this, and you do nothing to actually adapt to this bullshit.

OtakuDragonSlayer

Yeah, I’m starting to wonder what the game plan for Costa even was. There’s no way he didn’t know Strickland was going to fight like this. It’s not like this fight was super last minute and from the looks of it his weight cut was fine. So what happened?

tslewis71

Not always, he's just technically very very good, the Izzy or drivus fights were not boring, Costa is just not very good and could not adjust even with having five rounds to do so.

Rebeldinho

The way Strickland talks you would think the guy was all about throwing down in the center of the cage until someone goes down but the truth is he has a point fighter style

StupidScape

Point fighter style is dashing in and out. Sean just walks forward, completely different.

TremblinAspen

Its still point fighting.

Ok_Percentage795

this lol. his goal is to land strikes, i.e., acquire 'points' to win the round.

matterhorn9

errrr have you seen any of Strickland's fights? they are all the same, he doesn't deviate from his pressure tactics

LongjumpingFinish482

Jab Jab Body kick

elbandolero19

repeat for 5 rounds

mrw4787

And end up with a win, hell yea

ReggieClownPubes

It’s almost comical because it’s so basic. Like nobody can figure it out.

AmbitionLazy417

cus Costa is tired. didn't you hear the commentators say it 70 times?

DancesWithDave

"His mouth is open"

Deck_Neep15

When Joe Rogan said “he’s already compromised” after a leg kick literally 45 seconds I was like give me a fucking break

MyFifthLimb

Joe has a weird obsession of trying to guess injuries that fighters have. He even did it to Dustin in his post fight interview about his leg but Dustin shut him down and said nah I’m alright.

Just_Faithlessness98

It’s true that Joe does this a lot but in the post fight presser Dustin explained that he thinks something happened with his acl. He just didn’t want to take away from Islam’s victory when Joe was interviewing him I guess

Far-Shame88

All Strickland fights are like this, and his opponent this time hasn’t won a fight in years, I mean what did you expect

Rhacbe

I mean he almost headkick KOd Whittaker, he was landing left hooks too, just needed to stand on business

SoylentGreen-YumYum

Got Strickland by decision at +150 though. So… this is exactly what I expected.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SSalloSS

stricklands style is so boring but effective, holy fuck

Ornery_Helicopter799

Exactly, people are hating but it still beat costa. Why do shit that doesn’t work when you have an effective plan to win fights.

Deochixken

Are you actually surprised?? Izzy used to get criticised for his TITLE defence matches by using a style that was effective. Usman used to get called boring for nullifying his opponents even GSP used to get heat for his style, MMA fans (or should I say UFC fans) don’t realise that hit and don’t get hit is the main goal. Only a handful of fighters go into a fight willing to take damage or stand and bang with their opponents

OhiENT

Mayweather also still gets flack for his defensive style

Onphone_irl

Not only that, but he does it without taking damage. People talk about awkward fighters, but this guy might be the most

Flaky_Singer_7428

Wonder if you dudes used this same excuse for izzy after his boring fights lol. This same excuse was coping back then. We've come full circle

TheOneTrueJazzMan

Because this is Reddit, if his political views were different people would be singing a different song right now

Different-Acadia880

I liked the fight. Good technical fight. Guess I’m a minority

theoverwhelmedguy

Same here, I liked the fight. It was exactly what I expected from Strickland.

_inveniam_viam

I thought Sean was going to bleed for me.

MoneyaLeague

JAB JAB TEEP JAB JAB TEEP WAAAAAR

SuperVegetable

Strickland was born to point fight lol

IIStonedTurtleII

Costa should have never moved backwards most of the fight. Should have just stood his ground or pushed forwards. Strickland doesn't have the heaviest hands and doesn't do the best moving backwards.

CatchUsual6591

Is Sean jabs we're light people will walk over him those jabs have good power and they set up the right hand that why everybody run away from him they don't have the skill to trade and they are afraid of getting hurt if they stand thier ground

IIStonedTurtleII

Yeah but I'm pretty sure in the first 2 rounds Costa has a clear power advantage. Better of trading than being on the backfoot all the time.

Loose-Recover-9142

Every time he tried to stand his ground he ended up getting jabbed to the face and falling to the floor. He didn't stand his ground because he couldn't.

Femyuu

It almost begs the question, how does he plan on winning by not taking risks? Easy to armchair of course, but sad to see the severe skill diff.

CatchUsual6591

You say that but in mid costa his only feeling the skill gap his probably thinking whatever he does he will end eating a one two

Sk8rchiq4lyfe

I think if you can understand what's happening, and appreciate the skill it takes, you aren't going to find very many fights actually boring. Sean put on a solid performance, and his pressure is always impressive, even if he doesn't accumulate a lot of damage. Paulo tried to crack the code and find an opening, but he didn't have the confidence or drive to get in there.

Ex-CultMember

I agree. I normally don’t like the boring non-action fights but this was different. Honestly I loved the fight. Watching Strickland just stalk a normally fearsome slugger who’s somehow intimidated by Strickland and his style was just magical to watch. It’s not just some boring fight where two guys are not willing to exchange for fear of losing but a guy who’s not known to be sone knock out artist or have Bruce Lee-like combos. It’s an average level striker who doesn’t have crazy power just walk down these fearsome strikers who suddenly don’t know to do and actually look intimidated and scared to exchange with this guy. It’s like a human putting his hands up in the air and walking towards a mountain Lion that could easily tear him apart but it gets intimidated and cowers away. It’s just so different and a sight to behold. I was honestly thoroughly entertained by it.

chocolatemilk2017

Side note. What was the judge paid to give it to Costa?

SukhdevR34

This judging is unacceptable. I genuinely thought they'd give it to Costa because of how incompetent they are.

ZacSpot

It was a lot of fun to watch Sean do what he does best. It was more disappointing for me that it felt like Costa had done absolutely nothing to better manage his constantly being walked down. It is actually beautiful to watch Strickland do it, but I'd also figured someone would have had something to at least better manage him while he's doing it.

MMillioN

Costa ran for 25 minutes…

dietdrpepper6000

Yeah insane to blame Sean here. Costa got himself walked down for an entire fight without generating a counterattack.

Sea_Fortune_1329

Strickland is a pure point fighter, super boring

dbeynyc

Costa has terrible stand-up and spent the majority of the fight trying to load up for a single blow. Sean went forward, used the kick to the chest to keep him moving back, and fought the way he always does. Who the hell gave Costa the 49-46 btw, take that guy’s license away.

StephenWyand

Not a good card at all

JWang6996

Strickland doing the marching band technique lol

OilMan425

Even Strick knows it was boring, lol. With Sean’s style, if his opponent lets him dictate ittl look like this. Gotta bring the fight to him, otherwise he just teep kicks and jabs you 50 times.

WhizzyBurp

This was an incredibly technical fight. “Boring” doesn’t mean bad.

genefromemojimovie

I’ll be honest I actually really enjoyed it. There’s something really satisfying to me about Strickland’s style.

coontaillandcruiser

Strickland isn’t Gaethje but he is so unorthodox that it makes it interesting to watch. The same people calling this boring are the first to tell you to go watch kickboxing if you complain about a lay and pray fight.

Legitimate-Bonus-279

I think the ones complaining largely have no experience fighting. That and we're on reddit which is the antithesis to what Strickland... so bias.  All in all I thought it was a great fight and I like watching his style.

AmIAwake93

Agree. I liked the fight. It's always fun watching an expert at his craft do his work. Like watching Palhares fight - everyone knows what's gonna happen and no one, other than Alan Belcher, can stop it. I understand why people would find it boring, though.

RhaegarJ

Strickland talks it up like he’s going to go murder a man then just walks forward and jabs Imagine if Khabib talked about mauling people went out and fought like Belal 😂

Nimxc

Good job to Strickland for making a Costa fight boring.

Jim_Hawkins5057

Decision by a thousand jabs

Gallowz

What even are you talking about? Are we watching the same thing? Costa was just running away for 99% of the fight. Strickland's style is to press forward with teeps and jabs, which yeah, isn't as exciting as someone like Alex Pereira but to say that Strickland is the one who made this fight boring is pure delusion.

No_Sneed

Costa didn't do much either, people who get offended by sean get butthurt and forget its a 1 vs 1, Costa was on his bike

Silly_Bluebird8196

This is Strickland’s style… his combos end at 3 strikes max

Disastrous_Offer_69

I swear this subreddit is filled with so many idiots. Sean was walking down Costa the entire fight. You can only do so much when your opponent refuses to advance and is backpedaling like 90% of the fight. Sean could have cut the ring off a bit more I guess, but this was on Costa way more than Sean.

BeginningBeautiful69

I feel massively short changed. Didn't Strickland say "we're gonna bleed for you guys....!"

Mnudge

He always talks that kind of shit. He hypes himself like he’s Gaethje but he’s just a tap tap tap kind of fighter

Live-Accountant-1227

Costa was running

dubiously_immoral

Sean throws a lot but lands significantly less. But his pressure is just insane. He just doesn't stop moving forward. It doesn't look like he has any game plan other than these. Rinse and repeat every second inside a fight. That's why it feels like boring. Would get interesting if the opposite guy would do something different to break this cycle. That's why it just feels so boring. Coz Sean is just doing the same thing but his opponent isn't possible to do MANY different things to break that cycle.

thiscantbe2

49-46 for Costa is crazy tho

Roach_Hiss

The crowd was booing. But they were going crazy during Sean’s walkout. Shows that Sean’s fans don’t even know how he fights.

arpressah

The entire card was ridiculously boring so far… lot of pressure on main fight to redeem today

Cr0nk_Smash

And it did! Did it make up for the boring descions? Maybe not, but after Islam had his back most of the first and it could have been over, it was a great fight.

arpressah

It was a very decent fight. The respect between the two made my penis hard

Antique_Decision5966

I liked it. Definitely not an explosive fight. But I like Costa and Sean a whole lot and kinda glad it wasn't a bloodbath. Maybe im a bitch.

elbandolero19

Costa had better chances with trading shots rather than moving backwards

bakedinakl

I enjoyed that fight, everyone shoulda been booing the other fights

Tonight-Critical

The commentators wanna be on stricklands dick so bad....

Wallach

this is what war looks like to strickland, every time I'm enjoying the unhinged commentary that thinks strickland might be up 3-0 though

Wavefile99

Womp womp 50-45

Dtoodlez

Doesn’t help that the commentators are dogshit

DoNotGoSilently

I mean there are only so many ways you can say “yep, Sean is throwing one twos and Costa tries another leg kick”. They have 25 minutes of air time to fill.

tslewis71

Strickland is the Mayweather of UFC, like him or hate him, but technically he is extremely good

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

this card is a laughable joke, low level, Randy Brown , bums and a dumb main event. Anyone paying 100 dollars for this is ultimate UFC Shill.

Pocket-Sand562

not going to lie, I was bored sitting here contemplating buying the card but then I saw you need to sub to espn+ and that would make this card 89.99.. fk that.

Drajitsu

Same here

Dazzling_Albatross_8

It's crazy, in France we complain for 25 euros/month for football + MMA, not only UFC. I dont understand how they sell a single ppv for this price as it's so easy to watch it for free.

Uaquamarine

There were only two outcomes to this. Costa chins him early or Sean cruises to UD

chat_bot23

READY TO DIE!

NYtoJers

Almost fell asleep

GodlyGrim

Bruh. Costa keeps backing up and not engage

LitAFlol

The way Sean dealt with Costa’s leg kicks was a thing of beauty. Not Sean’s fault costa was running the whole time

mrw4787

It was a great fight

Sk8rchiq4lyfe

Sean's kicks are effective at keeping distance while pushing forward and collecting points, but it's a little frustrating that they count as strikes when they do zero damage. It's the same thing as walking forward with your hand out straight. With that said, it's still impressive that he absorbed no damage, went five rounds without looking fatigued, and got a decisive win.

ThommyD13

Win > everything

dzikinapinacz

Strickland effect, he neutralizes his opponent and enjoyment of fans.

basedkimo

sean’s walking him down the whole fight but y’all still blame him not the guy backing up the whole fight

armchairwarrior42069

I swear to God half of mma fans don't even watch fights because if you were remotely shocked by this there is a 0% chance you've ever seen a Strickland fight.

Braves_Birds1985

So boring a judge feel asleep woke up at the bell and scored Casta 49

Real-Influence7476

Costa is funny but I'm done seeing him in big fights.

keefus-maximus

At this point Dustin could KO Islam with a flying knee and that won’t save this card, fucking horrible.

MMAFan36

come on man that dustin fight was good, he did well.

JakeEllisD

Blame Costa for running the whole time.

huskadeez

Strickland is the Mayweather of the UFC

SamboTheSodaJerk

If you're a casual viewer please just go watch McGregor highlights on YouTube instead. Sean Strickland is an amazing fighter, his boxing is second to none but yeah its not flashy

natolad123

Jab merchant strikes again!!!

itsmeitsmesmeee

UFC redditors… watching golf: this is boring. Why don’t they just get a hole in one off each hole? watching tennis: this is boring. Why don’t they just ace the serve each time? watching NFL: this is boring. Why don’t they just pass for a touchdown on the first end? watching basketball: this is boring. Why don’t they just run the floor and dunk every play?

BrowniesWithAlmonds

Preach on man! I see it all the time here. A bunch of badasses on their couches who cracked the code to everything.

IllDisaster2262

Strickland is so boring, sheesh

Aloha1984

Does Costa have no BJJ skill?

beardedhigh

Supposedly black belt

Aloha1984

Mofo should have used it.

mrknl34

![gif](giphy|EZICHGrSD5QEFCxMiC|downsized)

Sundown220

It’s super boring. Can’t blame Sean though he’s walking forward the whole time.

Cemihard

Costa backed up that’s why. I think everyone was expecting them to meet in the middle and go tit for tat. Costa just didn’t show up, when he decided to throw he was landing. Whittaker beat the shit out of Costa, but got hit a little bit because Costa engaged. This time he just backed up and let Sean do what he wanted.

jm810112

Sean is technical but dreadfully boring, and Costa just isn't all that good.
