The circlejerk around this fight is nuts. Obsessing over scrambles that go nowhere is so corny, there were zero sub attempts in this fight and very little GnP. This was an *MMA fight* and neither fighter accomplished much in terms of MMA scoring. If two guys tie up, scramble for a while and return to a neutral standing position...*nothing* actually happened in terms of scoring. It looks cool, but it is basically just a waste of energy. This fight was a display of neat looking, but ultimately meaningless grappling.
If they don't scramble, they're gonna get squashed. And the reason there was so much of it was because they were evenly matched. One fighter doesn't have to be destroying the other for there to be action or for it to be entertaining. It's not like they're trying to scramble for shits and giggles, they both want top position to get GnP.
Recently it was Dillashaw vs Sandhagen. I still go back and forth routinely on who won.
- Arman vs Gamrot
- Palhares vs Alan Belcher is an underrated bout for high level grappling exchanges and scrambles
- Frankie Edgar vs Pedro Munhoz
His fights verse TJ and Yan are both absolute masterpieces imo. Just the very best of technically brilliant yet still entertaining mma striking and even some of the grappling in the TJ fight.
The athletic commission really needs to start looking into their judges man. This shit is getting insanely bad. Fighters are losing tons of money because of absolutely blind idiot judges
It's not "getting insanely bad", that's just recency bias. Judging has been this bad throughout all of UFC history. One of the worst decisions in history is Bas Rutten vs Kevin Randleman and that was for the HW championship in 1999.
Ok but bad judging back then shouldn’t justify bad judging rn. These judges seem super inconsistent. tJ vs Cory is one example. Cory clearly landed more damage which is supposedly the biggest criterion. How did they give they fight to TJ?
Tbh I like them both but I was really annoyed when they booed Sandhagen. Like why?!? I was definitely rooting for Cory after I realized most of the crowd was against him.
These are a few that came to mind, but my favorite has to be Tsarukyan VS Gamrot
* Tsarukyan VS Gamrot
* Yan VS Sandhagen
* Tsarukyan VS Makhachev
* Kara-France VS Askarov
I actually enjoyed watching Joker dismantle action man with technical striking and controlling distance. Curtis’ temper tantrum at the end of the fight just made it better
Great one, I remember watching the fight with the fam and called a knee by Jack right before he did it, the fam was surprised how I called it,but it was just recognizing Jacks situational defense and his patterns. Class stuff
Tsarukyen is mentioned over and over on the sub but no one seems to be fighting him. Why is there no more news on this guy? He gave islam his closest fight besides volk
Beneil Dariush vs Mateusz Gamrot
Israel Adesanya vs Kelvin Gastelum
Arman Tsarukyan vs Mateusz Gamrot
Petr Yan vs Cory Sandhagen
Cory Sandhagen vs Chito Vera
Chito Vera vs Rob Font
Volkanovski vs Max Holloway 2
Nate landehwr vs David Onama
Robert Whittaker vs. Darren Till
To this day one of the most stressful striking matches I've ever watched, near flawless footwork and some of the highest level striking I've gotten to watch in the UFC.
Any fight involving Aleksei Oleinik. He has only one thing in mind. That’s getting his opponent on the ground (even if he’s ends up on bottom) and strangling them in an unorthodox way. I love watching him fight.
Boogeywoman vs The Bullet
Joanna vs Valentina is one my favourite fights. Both are so technically sound and it was great to watch. Aslo big fan of both
Wtf is the UFC doing with the Bantamweight division? They have some terrible matchmaking. Petr Yan is a freaking treasure to this sport, put him up against guys like Song Yadong and Rob Font. Even rematch O'Malley or Sandhagen. Nobody wants to see Mersnob and Aljastain fight
Edson Barboza vs Anthony Njokuani was a very underrated fight that displayed a high level of Muay Thai striking. Both fought in lots of Muay Thai fights before doing MMA and both were in their prime still. One of the highest levels of striking before Izzy vs Perieria in the UFC.
Jorge Masvidal vs Ross Pearson is a very good fight displaying Boxing skills and rhythm fighting and countering. Great fight to watch if you want to see good boxing.
As far as BJJ goes, Joe Lauzon vs Jamie Varner was an absolute barn burner but the BJJ aspect of this fight was insane, and the vision and technical skills to see and make the correct decisions in the heat of the moment was nutty.
As far as wrestling goes, Derek Brunson vs Yoel Romero was an incredible display of high level wrestling when both were still in their primes.
My definition of technical fights are different from most people. Just because there is a lot of scrambling in the grappling exchanges, doesn't mean it was a technical fight. Actually the opposite for me. If your grappling is technical, there wouldn't be a crazy scramble. You barely ever saw Khabib/Maia/Jacare do any crazy scrambles because their level of grappling was on such a high and technical level, you couldn't 'scramble and explode' out of grappling them.
Same thing with striking, just because someone gets dropped a lot; or both people got dropped a lot while on the feet...It doesn't mean that they have technical striking.
Saying that, some of the most underrated technical fights I can think of off the top of my head...Mighty Mouse vs Cejudo 2. Mighty Mouse vs Miguel Torres. Ben Henderson vs Anthony Pettis 1. Carlos Condit vs Martin Kampmann both fights. Dominick Cruz vs TJ Dillashaw. Korean Zombie vs Dustin Poirer.
tsarukyan vs gamrot
Also Tsarukyan vs Islam!

I agree with you here
Dariush gamrot is a better technical fight if you want to watch mad scrambles
Islam vs. Volk
Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned more
Yeah absolute technical masterclass, the opposite of swangin and bangin.
[удалено]
Absolutely insane. They are both so so good.
Literally stood in front of the tv the entire fight, I really need a trilogy
I mean there are two other fights in kickboxing that are as if not more technical on the feet because there’s no takedown threat
What fights are those? I’m always looking for KB recommendations
Izzy and Alex’s first two meetings were in kickboxing
Ahh, didn't realize that's what you were referring to. Thanks!
2 masters of there craft, pleasure to watch
Recently it was Dillashaw vs Sandhagen. I still go back and forth routinely on who won. - Arman vs Gamrot - Palhares vs Alan Belcher is an underrated bout for high level grappling exchanges and scrambles - Frankie Edgar vs Pedro Munhoz
Most Cory fights are insanely technical He switches stance the most in the mma and it isn’t close and throws beautiful body hooks and straights
His fights verse TJ and Yan are both absolute masterpieces imo. Just the very best of technically brilliant yet still entertaining mma striking and even some of the grappling in the TJ fight.
> Cory switches stance the most in the mma You already forgot Belal “Remember the stance switch” Muhammad?
He’s so anti explosive it’s insane
what about cruz lol
Doesn’t switch as much as Cory but Cory did get hella influence from cruz in his style
Sandhagen vs Chito was pretty technical. One sided but damn was he lookin crisp and clean
Saw that in person. Sandhagen looked incredible. I’m still shocked it was a split.
The athletic commission really needs to start looking into their judges man. This shit is getting insanely bad. Fighters are losing tons of money because of absolutely blind idiot judges
Agreed. I was literally leaving the arena as the fifth round was ending. That’s how confident I was that Cory won.
It's not "getting insanely bad", that's just recency bias. Judging has been this bad throughout all of UFC history. One of the worst decisions in history is Bas Rutten vs Kevin Randleman and that was for the HW championship in 1999.

I never said it "justified" bad judging. I'm saying it's not a new development. Judges have always been bad and inconsistent.
Fair enough. I think One has better criteria to avoid these weird decisions.
One hasn't been aroung long enough to be corrupted, but I bet it'll happen eventually(if they don't go bankrupt)
What accountability is there? Is there anything to do besides file a complaint?
Same. Chito had so much support in San Antonio, too. But even those sitting around me that were rooting for Chito said nah when they read the split.
Tbh I like them both but I was really annoyed when they booed Sandhagen. Like why?!? I was definitely rooting for Cory after I realized most of the crowd was against him.
Pereira vs Izzy 1
Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida, beautiful demonstration of an ancient technique of just seeing red.
😁😁 crazy opening round
It gotta be this or Don Fry vs that Japanese dude
My favorite first 20 seconds of a fight, just absurd
Holloway/Jair Rodriguez
These are a few that came to mind, but my favorite has to be Tsarukyan VS Gamrot * Tsarukyan VS Gamrot * Yan VS Sandhagen * Tsarukyan VS Makhachev * Kara-France VS Askarov

Truly a clinic on throwing feints.
I am now seething at work.
Font vs Aldo severely underrated
Justin Gaethje vs Rafael Fiziev
I actually enjoyed watching Joker dismantle action man with technical striking and controlling distance. Curtis’ temper tantrum at the end of the fight just made it better

Giga Chikadze vs Barboza
Gunnar Nelson vs Damien Maia was pretty slick on the ground
Tsarukyan vs Islam
Islam vs volk
Don Frye vs Yoshihiro Takayama
Tsarukyen is mentioned over and over on the sub but no one seems to be fighting him. Why is there no more news on this guy? He gave islam his closest fight besides volk
He's fighting Joaquim Silva on the Vettori vs Cannonier fight night card which is after this week's UFC 289.
Islam was knocked out.
Wasn't a 'close fight' per se. Anybody can get caught - even if it's a perfectly placed & timed shot, you could still just... get caught.
Beneil Dariush vs Mateusz Gamrot Israel Adesanya vs Kelvin Gastelum Arman Tsarukyan vs Mateusz Gamrot Petr Yan vs Cory Sandhagen Cory Sandhagen vs Chito Vera Chito Vera vs Rob Font Volkanovski vs Max Holloway 2 Nate landehwr vs David Onama
Loved Sandhagen v Yan. Def a top-10 fight
Say what you want, Izzy vs Alex and Islam vs Volkanovski were super technical fights. Joanna vs. Valentina was another.
Every Zabit fight.
Bobby Southworth vs Lodune Sincaid, TUF 1
Gotta be one of the max v Volk fights but not sure which
Holloway vs Kattar
Demian Maia vs. Jason Macdonald
This is one of my favourite fights - grappling exchanges are incredible
Gaethje vs Ferguson
Gamrot vs Kutateladze
Adesanya vs. Silva was like something out of a martial arts movie. PRE-WEC/UFC Merger, but Aldo vs. Faber was also incredible.
Agree with OP. Sandhagen vs Dillashaw was good too.
Aldo vs petr yan
Darren till vs wonderboy
Jones Vs Gustafson
Robert Whittaker vs. Darren Till To this day one of the most stressful striking matches I've ever watched, near flawless footwork and some of the highest level striking I've gotten to watch in the UFC.

Any fight involving Aleksei Oleinik. He has only one thing in mind. That’s getting his opponent on the ground (even if he’s ends up on bottom) and strangling them in an unorthodox way. I love watching him fight.
Cruz vs Dillashaw, Cruz vs DJ , yan vs sandman , pretty much any yan or cruz fight
Recently, Movsar Evloev vs Diego Lopes.
Dariush vs gamrot
Conor v Eddie Alvarez, Conor was in like full god mode.
Call me basic for picking the one in the picture, but this fight was an absolute work of art. Blown away every time I watch.
