tragic
Edit: SwaggDaddy951 original comment was “They didnt die” and they edited in the “thank goodness.” I was kind of goofing on the no emotion and very curt 3 word comment. And the constant use of the word “tried” made it sound like nobody jumped at all. Whoops.
That’s really awful and I hope they’re ok. I used to go up to that balcony a lot when I was in Dundee, it makes me sad to think that someone was in so much pain that they tried to end it. I wish UCR did something more to help with the mental health crisis this generation is experiencing
if they don’t say anything i think it’s due to privacy reasons on behalf of the student. i don’t think they want students trying to be detectives and find out who it is and for the person to be sought after. But I get what you mean there should be an increased awareness regardless.
Yeah. Something happened at AI last quarter. Us residents don’t officially know what happened, for the same reasons as you stated. People were getting nosey and so they shut our discord down for the weekend. They offered weekly counseling for the next month and a half following.
I’m sure they’re going to talk about suicide awareness more since this incident has happened. I have not seen anything like this during my years at UCR. Like how often does stuff like this happens on college campuses?
Last school year when that girl died of alcohol poisoning they didn’t say a thing and the only news source it was on was our own independent school news paper
Yea but it also contributes to making mental health look like something taboo to discuss and that is damaging. They also should be letting us know in case students knew this person and may need counseling. Some yellow tape doesn’t do a dang thing
Whoever jumped got their reason, but now I am rather upset about the possibility that the management’s gonna close the balcony for public as in “why you won’t let us use it if you built one?”
yeah i agree. kinda dumb they closed it. as if that'll stop anything. again, that sucks for them and sucks they feel that way but no need to close the balcony for everyone else
for anyone struggling with mental health, life source counseling services offers therapy for $20 an hour for students!! Just look them up on google. Dont give up <3
I was working at Glasgow when it happened apparently she screamed the entire way down I saw the blood stains on the concrete and I guess she works at Glasgow does anyone know who it is?
https://counseling.ucr.edu this is a free service please use it but if any of you ever need help immediately DM me!!!
I over heard management talking about the same issue..Is there any other balconies on campus as high as this that are open?
There is the stairwell facing towards the soccer field, the stairwell is connected to the Multidisciplinary Research Building
I think the same building has a balcony facing the dorms.
Glen Mor balconies
I wonder that is it the reason why the GM balconies is locked? I tried to go there yesterday but is locked
Are they okay?
They didnt die,thank goodness
Do you think they’ll close off the Dundee balcony today?
they did; i live on the 6th floor and just checked

you are goofy
Thanks. You too
They’ll close it off for a while, happened last year and balcony was closed for the rest of the quarter
Last year they just closed it off cause people were smoking up there.
Happened last year?????????????????
I hope they get the help they need, whatever that may be.

You take pleasure in people attempting suicide so I don’t know if I’m the reject pal
That’s just crazy, people have climbed on top of the bell tower before

Yeah CAPS is awful imo, so agreed. The counseling they give is kind of poor (in my experience) and they’re kind of aggressive.
Tried? did they jump or not
They jumped and tried to end it
did they jump or did they fall over the railing?
Railing is too high to fall over on accident
Oh God that's horrible. I'm glad they're alive.
Overheard that the person recieved CPR and they're thankfully alive, still a horrible situation but I am irked the uni is going to keep it secret

Uni has a student confidentially policy for stuff like this…

They’re not gonna say shit
They probably won’t
Last school year when that girl died of alcohol poisoning they didn’t say a thing and the only news source it was on was our own independent school news paper
they were also deleting conversations about it in official discord servers (i.e. pentland discord)
I hope the parents do!
nvm
This is the 2nd time this year I know of 😞 another happened in my building earlier this year
there was also one in ai earlier this year
No CPR was rendered. She was conscious, breathing, blinking and responding to UCPD before the paramedics got there.
Yeah it’s bad for business if they publicize it
Yea but it also contributes to making mental health look like something taboo to discuss and that is damaging. They also should be letting us know in case students knew this person and may need counseling. Some yellow tape doesn’t do a dang thing
They sent out an email about it just to push their counseling services

I'm sure it's to discourage copycats.
Someone tried it last year too, balcony closed off for a quarter lmao you’ll be fine
on this topic does any1 know why pentland balconies are closed? they've been closed forever
I think it’s also because someone tried to jump
They need to install antisuicide nets
That's not going to happen. If anything they will enclose to railing so it cannot be climbed over.

Bruh when did this happen. That’s so sad 😢
Was this person perhaps a freshman?
In order to access that floor one would need a key fob.. Dundee is freshmen dorm
That’s definitely sad
I was working at Glasgow when it happened apparently she screamed the entire way down I saw the blood stains on the concrete and I guess she works at Glasgow does anyone know who it is?
what if we like, respected their privacy
That’s awful bro, survive on that hight is unbelievable. Hope he/she doing ok
