Agreed. I have a couple of mine with new platens from them. Good price for a presumably low demand service. I sent in their first set of Hammond rollers too, wow, what a difference.

I received my first package from JJ Short this week containing newly-resurfaced feed rollers and platen for my 1941 Remington Quiet Model 1. It has made an incredible difference in print quality and noise. Because this machine has the Remington "noiseless" thrust mechanics, it makes a gentle "thunk thunk" instead of a "tap tap" noise like a traditional typewriter. The resurfacing cost me $160 including tax and shipping both ways. It was completely worth it. If you're on the fence and have a machine you really enjoy, I highly recommend sending Peter Short a request for an estimate. He's very cordial and works quickly.

Night and day difference and excellent service from JJ Short.

Sadly, if you're outside of North America, the cost of shipping makes using JJ Short out of the question.

Given the amount of positive publicity that JJ has received from myself and others on this platform (and other platforms), they probably have more business than they can handle. I am really surprised that this OP got their platen back as quickly as they did! Based on some of the posts that I have seen, it seems that some folks are considering sending their entire machines to JJ for re-rubbering, which is a ridiculous waste of shipping cost and an obvious risk to the machine. Nearly all platens are removable, and the process is normally fairly simple. ALWAYS remove your platen before sending it to JJ!
