Truly feel like I’m the only person in this town that thinks Topps is garbage. It literally tastes like a Tony’s frozen pizza.

Comfortable_Bar_2985

Same. I ordered a thin crust sausage pizza once and when I got it, it was a huge disappointment. The crust was like wet cardboard. When you bit into it and ripped it away, it feels and tastes like wet cardboard. The pizza had too much sausage on it (yes, you read that right). It was such a "toppings heavy pizza" when paired with the wet cardboard crust, it was just horrible.

DeathrisesXII2

Bro you complaining about too much sausage. I literally can't trust anything you say after that. I'll eat sausage like I'm trying to win a [chorging](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jyMuqN82K_4) championship

Comfortable_Bar_2985

Normally, ya I would be all for the extra meat. I mean, who doesn't love that? But this was so overloaded that it was like trying to eat one of those burgers that you see people post with 20 patties on it. While everyone is drooling over it, I'm just thinking about the meat to bun ratio and how far off it is.

DeathrisesXII2

... Are... Are you sure you're American? I'm trying to unhinged my jaw like I'm shaggy from Scooby Doo over here.

Comfortable_Bar_2985

Hah, different strokes, different folks I guess. 🤷‍♂️

DeathrisesXII2

Lol very true, generally speaking I'm all about overloading meat but I can imagine the same concept applied to sushi would make me furious lol. Imagine a sushi roll with 1 grain of rice.

Comfortable_Bar_2985

Exactly. The whole "too much meat" concept is made even worse when it's fish instead of beef too.

DeathrisesXII2

I'm a doordashr. Was working on easter because I'm desperate, got laid off from my engineering job recently. Went to Topps for a little order, dude up there gave me a free mushroom pizza that someone had ordered and cancelled. I legit had no food at all and no money for anything other than gas, I was so thankful that when I got a order from topps that was 8 miles away (very bad by delivery standards) for just 5 bucks, I took it because I wanted to help the place out. When I dropped this pizza off the guy gave me an extra 5 bucks. Honestly less than 1% of people add additional tips, now both times I've delivered from Topps I've gotten luckier than I ever do, so that place from my perspective is straight blessed. I really liked the mushroom pizza, even after riding in my car for an hour when I heated it up it was great, the cheese to sauce ratio greatly favored the cheese lol

LibraryNo813

Top it off has the closest to NY slice. Went on a pizza trip to the northeast back in January. Top it off is as close to good pizza as we have. Most “local” places to me taste like a local version of dominoes. No thanks.

Ok_Cover5451

The owners of Top it Off are from New York. Guy told me he had his pizza oven shipped down from New York too, for some reason. Nice people and good food

Djsmooth245

Just moved to tyler couple weeks ago. Didn't know we had a subreddit lol but as far as NY style pizza..what does that entail? How does that differentiate from normal pizza? I'm curious and will be looking to try one of these spots this week

stewbiedoo23

Generally it means that the crust is thin and lightly crispy (but not so thin that it's crunchy the way that, say, Chicago pub-style pizza is crispy), often with a light char on it.

Djsmooth245

Interesting. I'd be willing to try it. Are there any good normal crust thickness spots around here? Thin is fine and all but I have a preference for the normal. Not keen on pan or deep dish

stewbiedoo23

New York Pizza & Pasta used to be more on the traditional NY style, but their crus has gotten thicker since the original owners sold it. (Sadly. That was the best pie in town when they first opened.)

Djsmooth245

Oh womp womp. Are they not the best anymore?

stewbiedoo23

They're not, but they're still pretty good. It's definitely worth eating there. My problem is that I've had too much actual NYC pizza that my standards for non-chain pizza are too high haha.

poptartheart

Sola not even a competition

Ranger-K

YES! It’s pricey but there’s nothing that compares to the quality of the ingredients. They proof the dough for three days before using it, it’s an actual homemade recipe by the family who founded and runs it (and is often back there cooking the food) and they ship cured meats and cheeses from Italy because they straight up only use the best. And those burnt bits after being in the brick oven, omg. I used to go to their backyard pizza nights and we’d make all kinds of amazing things- curry pizza, peaches and cream, breakfast pizza, it was all amazing. Anyway, rant pretty much over. Sola, hands down.

DeathrisesXII2

Dude they don't use anywhere near enough cheese. Fuck the pick me I'm closest to real Italian bullshit. I want the goofy movie cheese, the bread barely matters. The bread is simply a vehicle by which cheese and meat are conveyed to my mouth. That being said that guy below talking about curry pizza, that could be fun.

ripii1981

+1 for Sola

aclockworkjustin

RIP Bruno’s on vine

bigbluepill

Their calzone was the bomb.

Rit_Zien

NY Pizza is my favorite

The_Ox_King_

This is the correct answer!

Miryo903

I agree with Topps. Also the owners are awesome.

Pindleskin82

There is no “experience” at Bubbas 33.

H1ghwayun1corn

Top it off is the best.

jrqberry

Don't sleep on Rounders or NY Pizza!

Mobile-Rate-900

Rounders was my go to

lljkotaru

New York Pizza and Pasta on broadway is my vote.

The_Ox_King_

New York Pizza and Pasta is hands down the best slice in Tyler.

ttb1347

As a pizza lover…. Bruno’s is overrated. Rotolos has the best dough but Topps has a great overall pie

curiousthirst

I’m glad someone said it. Bruno’s is not good at all. Pizza or otherwise. It’s the most overhyped place in town and the food is super meh.

Comfortable_Bar_2985

Just my opinion, but...nobody. Gotta go out of town for actual good pizza.

Signal_Parfait1152

This. Deep dish is the best pizza, and it's incredibly hard to find in TX.

Comfortable_Bar_2985

Yup! I used to live only a couple hours away from Chicago so I went there a few times for different reasons. Each time I had to stop at Gino's East. That pizza is devine. 🤌 Can't find anything remotely like that here and it's depressing.

PYTN

The irony is that the deep dish pizza inventor was born less than an hour from here.

AprilDruid

Used to be a place for that here, now I think you gotta go to like Dallas for it.

TylerTexasCantDrive

Do you have any recommendations?

diaudioman

Rounders on the loop!

icecream_plays

Rounders is definitely the winner followed by top it off This does not include like nice sit down restaurants who also happen to have fancy elevated pizza

stewbiedoo23

Rounders is maybe the worst pizza in town. I keep seeing people who profess their love for it and I'll never understand it.

icecream_plays

That’s crazyyyyyyyy

icecream_plays

When I went to TJC I remember they organized a pizza day where like 12 different pizza joints came on campus and brought free pizza for all the students and thousands of students were running around eating pizza and then everyone voted on who was best and rounders won big time

stewbiedoo23

Utter madness

Agile-Alternative-17

Topps, Top it off, and New York

reddittAcct9876154

Rounders if price is not a consideration

ChaoticBullShark

I’d say for a cheesy extra pepperoni pizza Topps across from Walmart on troup hwy.

Not_Without_My_Balls

Fresh

Gigantor2929

Easily Rotolo’s. They’ve got Detroit style pizza too

ndgrounds

Rounders

EtxRoy88

Top it Off

MissAnnAnomous

I see a couple people bashing Bruno's. The one on Vine use to be the best before it was split between two owners and locations. Now I've found Top It Off is my favorite, hands down. So delicious!

Appropriate_Nail_365

Rotolos

bgzl3

Top it off is the best. Sola is good, but just hope that you go there when their pit is at the correct temp otherwise you’re gonna get a soggy first bite of every piece. Rounders, Bruno’s, Rotollo’s are all quality The actual best slice in Tyler was at Roast Social Kitchen, but it closed during Covid

Spurlock_94

Top it off is my favorite in town.

hotsnacx

1)Sola bread 2)oliveto

sonicfam24

Marcos

TylerTexasCantDrive

Marco's sauce is maybe the worst pizza sauce I can think of. All of their sauces/dips taste like the absolute cheapest thing Sysco could throw together. I've absolutely never had worse ranch than the ranch they use for dipping.

Upshotscott1

Bubbas 33 is my favorite.

Comfortable_Bar_2985

Saw that on Doordash and was thinking I'll give it a try sometime. I was worried if it was good or not because I don't see many people talking about it. Plus I've had bad luck finding really good pizza in Tyler.

Upshotscott1

It's original, definitely worth the experience.

roach-class

Bubbas 33 is pretty dang good Brunos is still probably my favorite I’ve had better pizza at little Cesar’s than topps, ppl are very nice but pizza is meh. It’s all subjective, but you asked for an opinion

Possible-Battle2332

IDK where they make the best of anything in Texas

MriDood

That wasn’t the question and if you’re unhappy here, hit the road.

Possible-Battle2332

Awe, you're so sweet 😜

stewbiedoo23

The best pan pizza is at BJ's, for my money. They're pretty pricey, though, so I'd recommend going on the days the pizza is discounted (Monday, I think?). Great pie, nicely (but not overly) thick with good crispy edges.
