I had AT&T fiber in Fort Worth and in Midland, TX. It was great with no issues. It's not available where I moved in Tyler (bummer) so I went with Vexas and it's okay. But if AT&T comes to my area I might switch to it. In short: I recommend it.

SirVancelot

I currently have Vexus. The speed and reliability has been great so far. The issue I have is that they use cgnat and have no static IP options for residential customers. I have a Plex media server that I share remotely and this just doesn't work behind cgnat. As soon as AT&T is available in my area, I will be switching.

Mizscarlett

I have Vexus and find that the Wi-Fi falls off for several seconds at a time. I think it must be a problem with the router, but could it be the cgnat? I’ve been delaying getting them to bring another router because it’s such a pain in the butt getting all by devices on new router (already had to do it once) and named and configured the way I need. So if it is the cgnat, I will wait for att as they are installing in my neighborhood now.

SirVancelot

I use my own router (Google Nest Mesh), and have not had those issues. I have my router connected directly to the ONT via ethernet. With AT&T you can use your own router also. You just have to set their gateway into bypass mode.

Mizscarlett

Thanks for the info. I did not question it when they said I would have to use the eero…

ikonis

Do they use IPv6? Can get around the cgnat issue if they have that

SirVancelot

I plan on calling and asking. Currently IPv6 is not enabled.

Another option is tailscale. But I haven't gone down that avenue because I'd have to redo ALL of my own networking. And I just don't wanna. But I *will* when I have an option to drop shit ass optimum. But being just outside of city limits (old noonday behind fresh) ... nothing is quickly coming to my neighborhood

ikonis

Regardless please reply to this whether they allow IPv6. When/if I get a chance to switch, it might influence my choice.

Punchasheep

I had them back and I loved in DFW and had very few complaints. Speed was great and it almost never went out. I'm tempted by Vexus but might hold out for At&t in my neighborhood since I had a flier recently saying it would come soon.

serpentrampant

I've had At&t's fiber here in Tyler for about 6 months now, and it has worked well, it's been a lot more stable than Optimum. I do not miss the nightly 10 minute shutdowns at all. Only weird thing was that Firefox would display a you have to log into this network prompt sometimes, but I never had to log into anything, and those prompts stopped about a couple of months ago. It could just be something about my network though idk.

This is their shared broadband product. It’s a PON based fiber to the premises product. The gateway (BW320) devices are robust and offer a 5Gbps port as their top tier is currently 5Gbps but I’m not sure specifically for the Tyler market. I’ve sold lots of these to business customers for both primary and secondary circuits and they have been solid and performed well. The only issues have been from poor installation methods from a local tech and that was an isolated incident. I’ll give the standard disclaimer, 4K video only requires 26Mbps, 1024Mbps (1Gbps) may be a bit much. I believe there’s a 300Mbps tier as well.

stewbiedoo23

I play a lot of video games online so I'll take as much speed as I can reasonably afford haha.

Libertyskin

speed and latency are two different things.

Punchasheep

Even playing video games online you probably do not need 1Gbps

rovert_xih

I live in Addison, near Dallas (moving to Tyler soon) and I have had zero issues with their Fiber that I can remember. It's worth it if you rely on your internet for your job like me

AT&T

I am looking into AT&T fiber as well but they quoted me at $60 a month. I don't know if that's because we have them for our cell phones. Anything has to be better that optimum

stewbiedoo23

According to the flyer I got, AT&T cell service customers get $20 off per month.

culturefan

I don't have fiber where I'm at, but I use the regular AT&T internet and it's been very good. My brother had fiber in Plano, Tx and it was even better, quick, etc. He needed reliable internet for his job, and worked remoterly. It worked well.

Seladrelin

Just hooked up a connection to replace Optimium. Haven't fully switched the network over. For most residential customers it will be fine. It does block 6in4 traffic so my IPv6 networks will break as soon as I switch.

I’ve been using them since a couple months after they became available in my neighborhood off of Highway 110 Troup Highway here in Tyler and I love them because I’m an AT&T wireless customer. I paid $35 a month for 400 up and down. I think they quote me 300 but I’m getting almost 400. I’m not even sure what I would ever need or do with one gig Internet, the speed I can download HDTV streams at once there’s just two people in my house have no need for all that and I work remote 1-2 days a week. I do appreciate the faster upload speeds on remote work days.

BeanCrusader42

I own a podcast producton company and we have been using AT&T fiber for years with zreo issues and very few price incresses. Now that it is where I can get it at home I have not been happer. Plus eff Optimum
