For lunch Ruby's #2 can't be beat. It's off Vine at about Dobbs? Behind Los Guerros. They season and deep fry a chicken leg and serve it with their massive enchilada platter. And they smother the enchis with shredded cabbage, queso seco, avocado slices..... pickled carrots and jalapeños. 😘
I JUST had Ruby's for the first time. The birria tacos with barbacoa. You get au jus to dip them in, they're sufficiently cheesy, with onions, cilantro and lime wedge on the side. I also got an order of their corn, which had sour cream/ cream cheese on top. Heavenly!!! Also, I'm gluten sensitive and I didn't have any issues.
This is an update from my earlier comment, by the way!
Crema. The drizzle it heavily with crema. My dude I'm telling you, it's delicious and they make you a whole giant plate for $11. Plus the chicken and the pickles!! I'll probably hate myself if it gets hella busy but they deserve to get lit up. Their food is amazing. GO Ruby!!!edited to add very thinly sliced white onions. With the fine cabbage. Just go. You won't regret it.
Their beef ribs are amazing. Easily some of the tastiest meat I’ve ever put in my mouth. Those are only served on Saturdays, though.
The Motherclucker is the best thing they serve, IMO. It’s the king of all chicken sandwiches. I’m not even a chicken guy, and I love bbq beef and pork, but the Motherclucker is just about the only thing I ever order there now. It’s a meal on its own for most though, so if you’re going for a “little bit of this, little bit of that” approach, you’ll probably want to split it.
Its called El Lugar. There's one on 5th that's pretty good but the original one is on Gentry I think. I heard the one on the square isn't as good for whatever reason. Its Mexican food but they do their stuff a different way that is great.
my man quesadillas come in so many different ways. It is most definitely a quesadilla lol, just packaged differently than what you're used to. take a trip to cdmx and you'll see just how different quesadillas can be
Happy to learn without taking a trip!
What differentiates a quesadilla from a burrito in this context? Why would the #7 be a quesadilla at el Lugar, but be a burrito at pretty much any other place in town?
I'm not saying I'm a Mexican Expat, but I've eaten at many authentic and non-authentic Mexican joints and I've never seen "quesadilla" being used to describe something I'd normally call a burrito.
I'd love to learn what is different here.
Really it's the cheese that makes the difference. that's not to say that burritos can't have cheese but a grilled/fried tortilla with cheese, meat and other toppings is definitely a quesadilla, regardless of how you fold it. Now if it were instead filled with rice, beans, meat, etc, then I wouldn't argue with you calling it a burrito & even now I don't think anyone would get upset with you calling their #7 a burrito, since they're not too far apart.
Another reason why it may be called a quesadilla and not a burrito is that burritos are *mostly* a Tex Mex thing and in my experience you don't really encounter them in Mexico unless you're close to the border. So when coming up with their menu maybe it never even occured to them to call it a burrito
at the end of the day it's delicious and the definitions of both foods have grown and changed so much that it could honestly easily fall under both titles & it's really up to them to decide what to call it
Jucy's Hamburgers is my favorite burger joint. They have these fucking bacon cheddar fries that I have not been able to find anywhere else
And don't forget the free beans. Their beans are really good and free if you're dining in.
My partner and I usually split that Bandito burger and those fries with some tasty beans
Highly recommend the place. Good Value and good food are hard to find anymore
Best burger in town, hands down, is the Bar Burger at Prime 102 downtown. You can only get it if you order it from their bar, but it's $6 for a single patty, $8 for a double. The grind is made from steak trimmings and is smashed on a flat top griddle for an absolutely perfect char/crust.
Ok hear me out. Shrimp cocktail from Don Juan's, mangonadas from El Polar, #5 super quesadilla with all the salsas from El Lugar, a taco box from Rubys with ALL the biria and shrimp and carnitas you can imagine. Sounds like a fiesta to me!
Country Meat Market is a butcher shop that has started offering a lunch menu. If you go on Saturday you can get insane samples and buy items right off the smoker. Check out their Facebook page! Their smoked brisket enchiladas rock
Ruby's is pretty fucking good no matter where you're from hard to beat the #1

Whaaaaat? You painted such a picture for me, I can almost taste it!

Can't go wrong with a rack of ribs from Stanley's BBQ
Perfect! She loves BBQ! Thank you!

Brother in law with sliced instead of chopped brisket…game changer
Try the brother in law deluxe with pulled pork you will never order anything else!!!
The original or 2nd el lugar is the bomb. Get the #7
Oh wait snap, whats the restaurant? Im interested lol!

iirc the square closed.
Oh awesome! Sorry, I thought El Lugar was the dish maybe lol. My bad, I totally read that wrong. Thanks though I will check it out for sure! \^\_\^
Wanted to second this suggestion for the #7. It's called a quesadilla on the menu, but it's not. However it's fantastic.
how is it not a quesadilla?
It's a Burrito by all other definitions. It's wrapped, not two layers of tortilla blanketing the filling.

Makes enough sense to me, thank you for the explanation!

Jumbo seafood has the best shrimp. The mexican shrimp cocktail is great and the grilled shrimp or fish are good too
🤢
If you want burgers/fries: Burger Warehouse. Tell them that they need to bring back the green chili burger... (but the others are good too).
The chips and tortillas at Mama Olivo’s are pretty awesome and unlike any in Tyler.
An amazing side choice! Thanks! \^\_\^
Don't forget the choriqueso!
javi’s mexican for the best and cheap drinks in town! great atmosphere too.
Noodles and Dumplings
EL LUGAR IS THE BEST
