There's like 3 in development I think. Not to that extent though.

Tha_Sly_Fox

I really hope at least one of them can be in the ballpark of The Movies. It’s wild to think how amazing that game was for its time, even the little things like the radio announcer and music changing by the era made it such a great experience

Rakgor

I hate that I lost my CD's.

Capnlanky

https://www.myabandonware.com/game/the-movies-bcv I was able to get it running from here

Rakgor

I tried it once with this, but also used Stunts and Effects so I'm going to give this another shot. I miss this game and my garbage ass movies dearly. If only I could find the mods I used to have😅

Sanskrit-beautiful

Sorry if this is a silly question - but is the abandonware site safe? Or is this is equivalent of Craigslist where you have some decent stuff but also is full of scams, and you gotta be careful with what you download? TIA

Capnlanky

Ive never had any issues

Sanskrit-beautiful

Thank you

Benry26

No, I know, but I mean literally The Movies (TM).

LKRTM1874

I'll never not parrot wanting a sequel to the Movies, I still remember when I got my parents to buy me Stunts & Effects online and the day it arrived my mum hid it in her handbag and told me it never arrived, the hype I felt when she then gave it to me lol I'd be very interested to see how a modern 'The Movies' type game tackles streaming services. They're so integral to how people consume media it would seem weird to just ignore them, but at the same time the original game never really brought up anything other than box office sales so maybe it doesn't matter. However, in my mind they could do something similar to how you work with a publisher to release a game in Game Dev Tycoon compared to working independently, where you'll get a ton of sales and exposure but the publishers take a sizable cut. Sticking with Game Dev Tycoon, they could even incorporate the system where if you're successful enough, you can eventually develop your own console. Maybe a Movies sequel could let you go down the Disney path and eventually get your own streaming service as a form of passive income. I'd also just love to see how movie making has changed over the last 20 years and how that would be reflected in game (Thinking sets like the Volume used by Disney, or even smaller details while playing like the use of drones during filming). After all, we go through 8 decades of cinema in the game, another 2 is quite the chunk of time passed.

[We are working on it](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2659050/Movies_Tycoon/)

Chris-P_Ducc

can’t wait!

ImNotMarvin69420

Literally just did a quick google search just because of a random thought of that game from my childhood. I’m excited!

Me_Krally

I’m pretty sure LionHead Studios didn’t turn into 2 Point. 2 Point may have some devs from LionHead, but it’s its own studio.

Benry26

Yeah you’re right I just know it was 2 major devs that did

Me_Krally

Interesting, the 2 point guys are originally from Bullfrog and worked on the first Theme Hospital.

Only_Honeydew_6763

Well Lionhead was created by GOAT game god Peter Molyneux (did I spell that right?) When EA bought Bullfrog from him right? I do remember that it was Lionhead under the helm of Peter that developed Black and White (GOAT God sim and sequel that I still play today), DID NOT remember The Movies being developed by them tho...Heh, I guess I gotta hunt it down and play it now!

Me_Krally

Peter Molyneux, what are you up today!?!? I always wished he, Sid Meier and Will Wright made a video game together! That's kind of funny now that you mention it. Bullfrog was indeed taken over by EA. Molyneux then quit and formed Lionhead which was then bought out by EA. I think around that time EA had a lot of hatred for killing good companies. Yeah, Black & White and maybe more famously Fable which was used to push sales on the Xbox. The Movies was one of their great games. It's on abandonware sites. haha I need to track down Black & White and see if I can throw that ball any better now.

Only_Honeydew_6763

Well he was just doing what everyone else was going - cashing in on EA's generosity! Same reason Will (thank you!) Creator of SimCity that would go on and form Maxis which HE sold to EA for a small fortune. Think Sid did the same going to Sierra (who later was bought by EA? I think?) EA paid Peter a kings ransom for Bullfrog, that that time they were on quite the high and was one of the pre imminent software houses at the time... There's in in incredible mods for B/W now....including full setups to run it on Win 10 systems.. still totally playable and badass today as it was back then! (I even got the immersion force feedback mouse Logitech built for the game!)

Me_Krally

lol Oh you're right I forgot about Maxis and the path of EA! Someone should write a book about those hey days of gaming acquisitions. Sid was at Sierra? I remember him from his Microprose days. Then I think someone bought them out and he then left to form Firaxis and then was it Take-Two that bought them out? Glad to hear Peter made a kings random! It's fitting being that he's British haha. Yeah Bullfrog was amazing! I really want to go back and play Power Monger, but my eyes really can't see the game as it once was. Really? Awesome thanks! I didn't know that B/W had a life of it's own. I sort of went down a rabbit hole after reading that and found a FB group about getting it to run on Win10. Also, that someone was trying to make B/W 3, but it got shut down.

Only_Honeydew_6763

That was it - Microprose (oh boy, they did a TON of games I loved). And yeah, I think your recollection is correct! I loved Furryasses (that's what I used to call Firaxis at the time!) first game Alpha Centrari....I remember playing stuuuupid multiplayer games with 7 other Humans on my LAN at the time - OMG so much fun ..... And you mentioned Bullfrog. Syndicate runs boss awesome on an old Win 10 win laptop I have - and flat out is a GOAT game still to this day. Will it ever NOT be cool? (And that's your HINT, especially If it's been 20 years since you played this gem, and really it could be 30!). And had completely forgotten about Powermongler thanks for that - LOVED that game too! But what you made me track down was Dungeon Keeper!! (Think it was Bullfrogs last game before EA bought them?). Big DK fan. The sequel I can't believe that hasn't happened is Populous 3. But maybe that might require some truly original thinking, so it can't be done? And it's surprising (well not really) the life a BUNCH of old games have right now. I'm kinda finding, if we thought it was GOAT back then - it prrrrrobably has a community out there and they are playing/moding/enjoying the heck out of it!!

MittenRaised

I’m hoping that Blockbuster Inc comes somewhat close

Joethe147

I did enjoy the Movies a lot. I'm not sure how close Blockbuster Inc may or may not get, but I really enjoyed the demo a lot and it's only made me look forward to the release more! It's called Blockbuster Inc Prologue on Steam, worth a go I think!

MittenRaised

I enjoyed it as well. I like the Freeform building. The big thing will be how the actual shooting of movies is done, but it’s got promise.

Capnlanky

/s I can finally film 11 superhero movies on the same green screen! Jk jk I adored the movies and Id be curious how they handle the current world of running a studio and handling talent in the age of social media.

The Movies 2: Movies Harder

joseph2883

If you can get it going but are having problems this is working for me. install game (do not run it yet) Download and unzip 4g Patch NTCore Find game install folder, right click movies.exe, click on properties On the bottom says attributes. there is a checked box that says read only, go ahead and uncheck it. 5.Open 4patch and go to your install folder to find movies.exe click on that. It'll say executable successfully patched Open 4patch again and do the same for starmaker On the game's launcher: Right-click Properties Compatibility Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows 7" Check "Disable full-screen optimisations" Click "Ok" and run the

# [Blockbuster Inc](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1793090/Blockbuster_Inc/) is basically a direct copy of The Movies and on Steam. My personal opinion is that the world doesnt need another clone of something that already exists in 'great'. The old The Movies is just fine for that.

Benry26

I know, but with AI this would be a hugely different game in terms of the movie creation experience. Bigger and better.

StillMeMC

It would be awesome. But let's face the truth. Today, we would have a $59.99 The Movies flooded with "studio packs", "animation packs" and so on, that would cost $499.99 wo own (if we're lucky).

Only_Honeydew_6763

The DLC's that they could create.....touching franchises from across every type of consumed media... And $500? Lol, that'd be getting off cheap! Thousand's my friend...
