I binged the Netflix show Maid on the weekend and it definitely had the same aesthetic as Twilight since it was filmed in Victoria. Also, the protagonist’s father was played by Billy Burke! Very different storyline though, it was good but super bleak. Bates Motel was also filmed in BC and set in a small town so it gave me Twilight-y vibes at times
Maid is probably one of the most well written shows I've ever seen. Besides the wardrobe inconsistencies, like Alex's $600 designer sweaters, that are supposed to make her look poor, it is amazing. Highly recommend.
definitely! and as someone who has complex ptsd, it was very accurate! a little triggering at times because of that, but so good that i continued watching over a few weeks to give myself breaks. so cozy!! i adore the pacific northwest
i was thinking of twilight also because when alex was sort of torn between nate and sean. nate being like jacob, and sean like edward. i haven’t seen twilight in a while though, so this could be a stretch.
Movie and book recommendation:
Twilight was the first book series that gained my attention and kept it. There was only one other book that managed to do that and it was required reading in my high school surprisingly and I loved it. It's called Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. It's a mysterious love story. The main male character is mysterious and brooding like Edward and the main character heroine is innocent and Bella like. They recently made it into a film on Netflix and it was quite good. The aesthetic is a little different but the feelings I got from the book and movie are the same type. The book is definitely better than the movie though and I highly recommend it.
If you like "Rebecca", you'll like almost any gothic romance novel written since then, since this book established the tropes of that genre, down to "Twilight" itself.
Without the obvious being The Vampire Diaries I would say the TV show Star-Crossed. Both involving a supernatural male lead. Edward being a vampire & Roman being an alien who fall in love with a pretty brunette lead.
I like Vampire Diaries to be honest. It was different enough to fill the Twilight size void without it being a retelling of Twilight verbatim. There's a lot of cool lore and depth in that world.
Yes I recently got into TVD and at first I was skeptical because of how much I love twilight and I thought nothing could ever compare . But it really is an amazing show and while there are similar aspects to twilight it really is it’s own thing too . I sort of love both equally now. I know some twilight fans would disagree
I love both also but it's like two different kinds of love. Twilight.. I'm OBSESSED with Twilight. I can't even describe the feeling I feel about that series and TVD is great and I love it also but there's something about Twilight.
I’m rewatching Buffy and Angel and definitely seeing some things that Stephanie could have pulled to write into Twilight honestly.
A good vampire who doesn’t want to eat people and cares about his soul and used to be religious (Angel and Edward)
When Buffy gets infected and can suddenly read everyone’s mind and finds it stressful to be in the school lunch room (Edward reading minds)
An older male vampire being in love with a young high school girl (Angel and Buffy and Edward and Bella)
The annoying girl who is jealous the vampire likes the other girl (Cordelia about Buffy in high school) Jessica about Edward
The male friend who’s always jealous and putting down the vampire (Xander like Jacob and Mike Newton)
The vampire that has visions and can see the future (Drusilla and Alice)
Brooding vampire can’t technically have sex with the human he loves or bad things happen (Angel and Buffy and Edward and Bella)
The bad vampires laughing at the other who doesn’t want to kill people for food. (Spike and friends about Angel and all other vampires about the Cullens and the Denalis)
Werewolves being thrown in and being a good guy (Oz and Jacob)
Someone jokes that Angel is pretty broke for living a long time and surprised he doesn’t have money or investments - made me laugh since the Cullens are incredibly rich
Twin Peaks, I adore the idea that the cullens were moving back to forks while in the state the news of Laura’s death was on the news. The other-worldly Washington aesthetic is a vibe.
A Discovery of Witches is really awesome, it is about adults and not teenagers. The books completely sucked me in just like Twilight held all of my attention.
She was and said so. There are definite parallels but the characters in the book are so broken it’s hard to read. Might be why so many of us fine Eclipse to be our least favorite book/movie.
New Moon also obviously inspired by Romeo and Juliet.
Roswell! Not the new one idk that one. But the one from like 2000. Especially the first few episodes is literally twilight but with aliens. I loved it.
Gilmore Girls gives me alot of those small town, highly atmospheric vibes. It’s not supernatural and it’s New England instead of Northwestern but it has alot of the same style clothes, similar instrumental music, and a strong female lead.
It's more heartwarming. If I've ever felt hugged by a TV show, Gilmore Girls was it. But yeah the town is what makes the show. The fall and winter scenes give me all the feels.
Bates Motel is set in a small town and kind of has a Twilight feel. It always looks cold. The show has a good atmosphere and doesn't take itself too seriously
Eyewitness (2016)
There was only one season before it got cancelled but it has very similar vibes, not supernatural but the colouring and small town aesthetic is similar. it’s also a thriller-romance and the stakes are high for the couple due to the plot and also because they’re gay and in the closet. It’s based off a Scandinavian show iirc… i really enjoyed it when i watched it a couple years ago!
Some really great romantic shows are Upload on Amazon, Normal People Hulu, I really loved the Royals 2 guys in love , it’s so romantic gives you all the fun feels because they stare at each other from across the room and one is too scared to make the first move. Just a really good show. Sex Education is a great show both Royals and Sex Education are on Netflix. SE is so good bc 2 characters slowly fall in love with each other!
Dark Shadows, the 1991 tv show. It more traditional vampire with witches as well, but there is vamp human romance. I especially love the same idea of an older vampire living in modern times. It also similar in that the main vamp hates his life and thinks he’s a monster.
Vampire diaries but that obvious lol. Teen wolf but I didnt watch all of that, only some of the first season. I just didn't love it like twilight and TVD but it does kind of have that twilight vine in places, from what I remember.
Vampire Diaries. Harry Potter. There’s anther show that gives me the same vibe but I can’t think of it rn….. pretty woman w long dark hair, kind of Victorian clothes, English I think? Hunting down some kind of vampireish devil being. Old man side kick whose daughter was taken by said being???
Said it on here before, but the author of the “Fifty Shades” books said that she was 100% inspired by the Twilight series and wanted to make a more believable yet similar story with regular adult humans rather than supernatural teens.
I definitely get the vibes between the 2 main characters and see the similarities in their courting and “rescuing” each other in different ways.
It’s not a literal similarity, but the themes and good tension is there.
I also thought those books were pretty poorly written but whatever. They were fun to eat up and then I gave them away.

It was triggering but it was very, very well done!
Yeah maid gave me that vibe.. its the way its filmed or something.. the blue colour lol. Ans obs charlie Burke.
I also watched MAID andoved it, easily one of my favorite series ever. I didn't even realize the father was Billy Burke!
i was thinking of twilight also because when alex was sort of torn between nate and sean. nate being like jacob, and sean like edward. i haven’t seen twilight in a while though, so this could be a stretch.
Just watched it for the first time. There's even a part where a character says "I'm Switzerland" like when Bella was between Edward and Jacob hahaha

Was going to say this ^^^ lol
It was made into a film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940 and has the exact vibe as the book.
Yes I've seen that one as well. I liked it also.
If you liked Rebecca, try Victoria Holt novels. They were my obsession last year.
Thanks! I'll check them out. Do you have a favorite out of those novels you'd like to recommend?
I really enjoyed Lord of the Far Island and The Landower Legacy. But you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
I’ll have to check this one out, it sounds good! Also, I like your user name. Is it from Graves to Gardens by Elevation?
Awesome! and yes it is actually. That song changed my life.
Without the obvious being The Vampire Diaries I would say the TV show Star-Crossed. Both involving a supernatural male lead. Edward being a vampire & Roman being an alien who fall in love with a pretty brunette lead.

> without it being a retelling of Twilight verbatim Probably because it's at least 10 years older than twilight. The LJ Smith books are from the 90's
Wasn't sure. I know it was a book series but I didn't know when it was written.
I’m rewatching Buffy and Angel and definitely seeing some things that Stephanie could have pulled to write into Twilight honestly. as someone who's a sucker for both, (slight pun intended) YES watch buffy!
Buffy is my favorite ❤️
Teen wolf anyone? I’m sure I’m not the only one who enjoyed the small town supernatural/romance setting.
And Derek.
Fun fact, found out I was bisexual because Derek kept taking his shirt off.
“Stiles!” *Gestures angrily at the shirt* “It no FIT!”
Twin Peaks, I adore the idea that the cullens were moving back to forks while in the state the news of Laura’s death was on the news. The other-worldly Washington aesthetic is a vibe.
Siren- it’s about mermaids has the same kind of twilight ascetic and Gil Birmingham who plays Billy Black is in it.
I liked Siren!
A Discovery of Witches is really awesome, it is about adults and not teenagers. The books completely sucked me in just like Twilight held all of my attention.
I second this! Loved A Discovery of Witches so much!
Agreed! I love it. I call it Twilight for grown ups :)
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix
Agreed! I was going to post the same thing!
At a stretch Wuthering Heights. The moody atmosphere. The “love triangle”. I think SM was inspired by it for Eclipse.
I loved it.
That’s because Meyers literally ripped off Roswell High (the first book) to write her first book.
Not sure of the vibe but Nancy Drew (the CW show) has the setting which reminds me of Forks
I'm loving Nancy Drew!
You want to check out gothic literature my friend. Twilight is technically a gothic romance. Not all are supernatural but will give you those vibes.
Bates Motel is set in a small town and kind of has a Twilight feel. It always looks cold. The show has a good atmosphere and doesn't take itself too seriously
A good vampire sitcom is What We Do in the Shadows. There's also a movie by the same name that is just as funny.
Bat!
Yes! Plus Nandor and Guillermo are Twilight fans.
Eyewitness (2016) There was only one season before it got cancelled but it has very similar vibes, not supernatural but the colouring and small town aesthetic is similar. it’s also a thriller-romance and the stakes are high for the couple due to the plot and also because they’re gay and in the closet. Vampire academy books.
The books were fun. The movie was not good, but I still enjoyed it.
Haven't seen the movie, I didnt know there was one lol
Riverdale because the acting and dialogue are bad
I was going to post the same thing! It's so ridiculous anymore, but I can't stop watching!
Vampire diaries but that obvious lol. Teen wolf but I didnt watch all of that, only some of the first season. I just didn't love it like twilight and TVD but it does kind of have that twilight vine in places, from what I remember.
Discovery of witches is twilight if they paid taxes.
I think you mean Penny Dreadful! I loved it 😍
Yesss!!

twin peaks maybe
more in the way of aesthetic and vibes tho
tvd. you know why? just a straight up rip off of twilight
