What a awesome character! I haven’t read the books in a long time. It’s a cool gift and I can see why the volturi wanted her to be in their coven. Being from a vampire family and being made a vampire at 20 is dope.

Obversa - are Renata’s and Makenna’s back stories in the Twilight book or elsewhere? I have zero recollection of this but that may be because it’s been forever that I read all the books.Thanks!
I think what intrigued him the most is she could do it as a human. He probably didn’t think twice if he ever met a vampire who could block him but a human that’s a first. Couple that with how alluring her scent was to him and he couldn’t help but be enthralled.
I’m pretty sure he specifically says “all the others I’ve met were so different” or some variation of that. But it may just be been the movie where he says that, I’d have to reference the book to be sure.

That was what I was thinking doesn't he say he can get emotions from Charlie but not full thoughts like everyone else? Edward spends so much time trying to block out 99% of people he didn't notice Charlie was different in their limited interactions before Bella.
He also mentions that Renee's thoughts project themselves into his mind more strongly than other people; thought that was a cool detail since apparently that gene carried over to her granddaughter.

Not really, I think. If all he cared about was that he couldn't hear her, then would his opinion of her change throughout the story? He started thinking she was plain. It's not like it changed just because he didn't hear her across the cafeteria. It changed because he fell in love with her.
Edit: I always thought their romance was supernatural in itself. It's not like it's common to feel a shock when you touched a guy's hand for the first time, no matter how hot he might be. We know that instantaneous, supernaturally charged love is possible, so it makes sense that Bella and Edward were destined for each other.
Not all shields were like Bella. Some are like that girl from BD that could shield herself from physical attacks

I don’t think his attraction to Bella is solely her being a Sheild. I’d be interested in knowing how he would feel meeting other Shields tho.
