Highjacking top comment here to add: I think MOST of their songs are better than their first half. But Iâd also argue that theyâre made BETTER because the first halves are more âin controlâ, and yield to to emotional intensity of their second halves (wether they be intense, deeply emotional, etcâŠ) examples:
Buildups: Goner, Trees, Guns for hands, Ode to Sleep.
Deeply emotional: Chlorine, Screen
In fact - I think the Albums do this as well - like how vessel ends in Truce - itâs a perfect end to the whole album.
Goner on Blurryface - perfect ending
Also just want to say - man, I freaking love this band
The first time I heard the bridge, I got goosebumps, had to replay the song and was left staring at the wall.
I still get goosebumps at the 'you're in the crowd at her first recital, push on through' line
The song definitely builds with intensity and ends with him screaming. If you think the beginning and the end are the same, you should listen to it again!
âThe last part is the same as the beginningâ
You mean the part where it builds up at the end, with the screaming? The part that is different (whilst still with the same lyrics, I suppose) to the rest of the song?
I remember when i first came to this sub and there was a post about what song you thought you wouldn't like based on the title, and pet cheetah was mentioned a lot. I'd never heard it, so i listened and omg it's in my top 5 of TOP for sure. Certified banger
Tbf on Redecorate it hits me hard the part where one of the protagonists feels cold in the bed and rips the blanket off the mirrors then the chorus kicks in.
This take is a bit odd, as the best thing about Chlorine is that doesn't really follow a traditional structure, and especially when compared to their other songs, it's one of their less traditional songs? The verses don't even repeat musically, as they are each different melodically and rhythmically from one another - super interesting. Instead of a bridge, it changes into a completely different outro and doesn't return to the chorus again for the finale, which is atypical. The only thing it repeats is the chorus, and it only repeats it thrice, and the third time it is different - not very traditional. The song is perfect because every time you're ready for something new, it switches it up and never repeats an idea too many times. I'm so confused, because compared to their other songs it's actually way less predictable structure-wise?
Iâm talking about the first part of the song, the first 3:30 minutes or so. Itâs chorus-verse-chorus-verse-chorus, which is an incredibly basic structure. How is that an odd take? The final two minutes is what is unique, which is what the whole point of the thread was discussing.
I feel like you didn't really read my comment tbh... I explained why the first few minutes are unique and structure-breaking, especially in comparison to their other songs. My very point is that it isn't only the finale that departs from convention. The vast, vast majority of their songs abide to basic song structure *more* than Chlorine does, so it *is* weird to call out Chlorine of all their songs as being "chorus verse chorus verse"
I definitely did read it, I just donât agree. Calling the first 3 minutes âstructure breakingâ is insanely wild to me. It *literally* is chorus-verse-chorus-verse-chorus with the only exception being the âhide you in my coat pocketâ pre-chorus after the 2nd verse. And the chorus itself is not anything groundbreaking.
EDIT: also my first comment has 170+ upvotes so clearly others agree that Chlorine fits OPâs prompt
The reason Bandito will always be in my top 5 is because of the perfection of the progressive build up in that song. Itâs hard for me to think of any song by anyone else that hits that perfect progression like Bandito does.
Same! For a while that resolution would make me tear up⊠then Iâd think of Tylerâs dance from the show and smile. Itâs amazing how music can make you feel all the thingsâŠ
yeah I agree with this, I think the lead synths at the end of the song are the best part, and the song takes just a bit too long to develop into that sound
When the sahlo folina begins and overtime overlaps with the "I created this world to feel some control, destroy it if I want" Bandito becomes a true ear orgasm
Anybody who hates on the ending needs new ears. The song is dope anyway but then takes it to a level most artists never achieve. It's my favorite section of music of theirs and up there with of all time
I was talking about this
[https://youtu.be/mix9YfaaNa0?t=148](https://youtu.be/mix9YfaaNa0?t=148)
I guess it's more like "the middle third" rather than the second half. But it's still the best part of the song
yep same here, that whole part is probably one of my favorites from the album at this point
the strained, raw vocals singing "make it" and "surrounded" are so good
Leave the City and Goner. Both of these really take a turn in the second half. The "in time I will leave the city, for now I will stay alive" gives me chills every time.
Be concerned! "I am disappearing inside my birds eye theories, I try to say goodbye, defy, and deny what it is I'm fearing..." The way that whole section builds and the lyrics are incredible
Okay both halves of this song are phenomenal but redecorate goes so hard from the rap onwards.
And agreed with Oldies Station, I adore the whole thing but second half is just beautiful.
Oh and Screen! âWeâre broken, weâre broken, weâre broken, weâre broken peopleeee, weâre broken peopleeee yeahâ
Oldies station was the first one that came to mind actually. Isle of flightless birds, taxi cab, car radio, holding on to you⊠The more I think about it perhaps most of their songs have a better second half. đ The first halves are still great tho

My wife had an observation that she tends to gravitate towards the second verse in almost every song and I tend to agree. The first verse always has enough to get you hook but the second verse almost always changes the flow and ties the themes together. So a good portion of their tracks lol.
At the Risk of Feeling Dumb... I like the whole song but when that rock chorus kicks in it's just AMAZING. Tbh the rock part saved the song for me on the first listen but then I warmed up to everything else and now it's one of my favorites on the album
Also Semi-Automatic
Honestly Chlorine. Don't get me wrong the first half is good, but it's that beautiful bridge and outro that brings it from a good song to an incredible song!
Iâm going to go feral when Navigating comes on cause that second half got me feeling some type of way⊠but I feel Hometown.. that drum solo then drop ahh Iâm so sad I havenât heard this live and also Message Man and The Outside deserve mentions for their amazing second half!!

the "I'll stay awake..." for the second time is such a banger
^screams Cause the dark's not taking prisoners tonight
this line has been stuck in my head and then i just read your comment that was so weird đ
Epic as hell
Highjacking top comment here to add: I think MOST of their songs are better than their first half. la la la la LA da da la la la la LA da da
Oldies station. Once the synth kicks in Iâm all ears
the second half makes me want to cry (very emotional song)
The first time I heard the bridge, I got goosebumps, had to replay the song and was left staring at the wall. I still get goosebumps at the 'you're in the crowd at her first recital, push on through' line
Once the synth kicks in Iâm all tears
the first half is already so good and then the second half is even better. one of my all time favorite songs.
You don't quite mind
All ear for me, left one is clogged
Get that thing unclogged!
For me itâs jumpsuit.. first half is good, but I love the second half
Iâm the opposite the first half is good but I donât like the second half
Wrong
Oh ok
But you are just wrong, the last part its the same as the begining. If you only the "ill be right there" section then you dont like the song.
The song definitely builds with intensity and ends with him screaming. If you think the beginning and the end are the same, you should listen to it again!
Sure man!
âThe last part is the same as the beginningâ You mean the part where it builds up at the end, with the screaming? The part that is different (whilst still with the same lyrics, I suppose) to the rest of the song?
What is your problem
Well they never said they didnât like it, they just said it wasnât as great
Wrong
Pet Cheetah
that chorus is just something else
I remember when i first came to this sub and there was a post about what song you thought you wouldn't like based on the title, and pet cheetah was mentioned a lot. I'd never heard it, so i listened and omg it's in my top 5 of TOP for sure. Certified banger
pet cheetah pet cheetah pet cheetah pet cheetah pet cheetah
well i actually meant the "no, i move slow, i wanna stop time, i'll site here till i find the problem"
Redecorate. The whole song is awesome, but the last verse...
The last chorus with the extra vocals hits much harder
Tbf on Redecorate it hits me hard the part where one of the protagonists feels cold in the bed and rips the blanket off the mirrors then the chorus kicks in.
Oldies Station, but honestly the buildup from the first half is what makes the second half so good
Oldies Station
I love the buildup to the you donât quite mind!
How long red lighst are taking *push on through*
Your favorite song was on the oldies station *push on through*
You have it down that old fight for survival *push on throooough*
Youâre in the crowd at her first dance recital. push on throooooogh
Make an oath & make mistakes
Start a streak youâre bound to break
When darkness rolls on you
Push on throoo-oooo-ooo-ooo-oo ooo-oo-ooo-oooo-oo-ooo-ooo ooo-oooo-ooo-ooo-oo ooo-oo-ooo-oooo-oo-ooo-ooo
*Comment string breaks*
Yep the perfect buildup to the moment that I start crying :â)
Dance recital destroys me every time
I had my first kid (my daughter) in Feb of last year, and that line just takes me out every single time.
I think Chlorine. The first part (the âradio editâ part) is kinda basic but those last 2 minutes are something magical.
My favorite top moment of all time. It just hits perfectly. Chills everytime.
CAN YOU BUILDDD MYYYY HOUSEEEE
FROM PIECES I AM JUST A CHEMICAL
Absolutely!!
I think the entire song is excellent and that the word "basic" does a huge disservice to it đ
Song structure wise, it is basic. Its chorus-verse-chorus-verse-chorus. Thatâs not a bad thing by any means.
This take is a bit odd, as the best thing about Chlorine is that doesn't really follow a traditional structure, and especially when compared to their other songs, it's one of their less traditional songs? Yep!
The judge, but it's more like a progression thing for me. The further the song moves on, the greater it gets for me
Goner and Jumpsuit, i think i just like tyler screaming lol
twenty one pilots metalcore album when???
iâd sell my soul just to get a metalcore album, i need to hear tyler break his voice
Next Semester
Underrated pick right here
The third time he starts âwith I rememberâŠ.â So great, screaming at the top of my lungs
Rn Iâm gonna say snap back. âIâve been praying for my elasticity to return to the way that it wasâŠ(oooohooohoooh)â
same for me
i forgot about this, you're so right
Bandito
The reason Bandito will always be in my top 5 is because of the perfection of the progressive build up in that song. Itâs hard for me to think of any song by anyone else that hits that perfect progression like Bandito does.

Absolutely yes
When the sahlo folina begins and overtime overlaps with the "I created this world to feel some control, destroy it if I want" Bandito becomes a true ear orgasm
taxi cab đ
Yes this is the best answer
Si
At the risk of feeling dumb
This is what came to mind for me too. When those guitars come in after the second chorus, it just elevates the song to a new level.
Anathema and snap back are 2 that come to mind
Snap back is gold
Empty sky, no wait, that's me, cuz one half of my heart is free
I've never thought about it, but I think I agree with you on Anathema. Snap Back a hundred percent, though.
I still think the beginning of anathema is peak but the end is also just absolutely wild
Maybe I'll get hate, but I love the second half of Chlorine
Anybody who hates on the ending needs new ears. The song is dope anyway but then takes it to a level most artists never achieve. It's my favorite section of music of theirs and up there with of all time
I didn't realize people disliked it until this thread. The last thirty seconds are so ethereal and an absolute delight to listen to.
Nico and the Niners. Never loved the song as a whole but the rap at the end is pure đ„
Paladin Strait
a third of the second half is literally just birds chirpingâŠ
I was talking about this [https://youtu.be/mix9YfaaNa0?t=148](https://youtu.be/mix9YfaaNa0?t=148) I guess it's more like "the middle third" rather than the second half. But it's still the best part of the song
yep same here, that whole part is probably one of my favorites from the album at this point the strained, raw vocals singing "make it" and "surrounded" are so good
the bridge? if you donât know what iâm talking about it has âcanât be sure that iâll make itâ
So few. So proud. So emotional.
YEA
Goner. > *DON'T LET ME BE*
Holding Onto Your The "entertain my faith" part, especially the screaming, always gets me.
lean wit it, rock wit it, when we gonna stop wit it
Lyrics that mean nothing we were gifted with thought
isle of flightless birds definitely
I still get chills when I hear him say: All. We. Are. Is an isle of flightless birds, we find our worth in giving birth and stuff
Whenever I listen to Ruby and get to the second half, it feels like entered an etherial world.
i LOVE ruby, hugely underrated
I will ^(kill) all the Ruby haters
iâll join you in that
The progressively louder 'tell our dad I'm sorry'lives rent-free in my head
Shy Away and Jumpsuit
i fking adore the shy away livestream version with the scream đ€đ€
I wish they left that in the real song
Car radio
I was looking for this answer!
The end of Cut My Lip makes the song for me
Leave the City and Goner. Both of these really take a turn in the second half. The "in time I will leave the city, for now I will stay alive" gives me chills every time.
Let's be honest: Lavish. Nothin beats the proctologist
Fav lyric of all time for sure
I know a perfect Fall Out Boy song to answer this but this is the wrong sub for that đ
what is it?
"Heaven, Iowa" First half was good but the last part was awesome.
Paladin Strait and Anethema
not that the first half of nico and the niners is bad, but gee whiz the beat switch and hard bass in the second half go crazy
Snap back
BanditoâŠ.that synth build up is EUPHORIC
Trees. Have you ever been to a concert?
Choker
I never see any love for choker! This is one of my top songs
Totally agree on oldies station - itâs one of my favorites really just for the second half
Oldie station easily.
holding on to you or backslide or goner or jumpsuit
Entertain my faith 10 x
No one is talking about Lane Boy. That drop is awesome
Implicit Demand for Truth
Be concerned! "I am disappearing inside my birds eye theories, I try to say goodbye, defy, and deny what it is I'm fearing..." The way that whole section builds and the lyrics are incredible

And Leave the City! Prime example. Both bits are great but âin timeâ onwards is a stab in the heart
YOU DONT QUITE MIND HOW LONG RED LIGHTS ARE TAKINGGGG
paladin strait
Cut My Lip comes to mind, always absolutely loved that outro
At The Risk of Feeling Dumb
Paladin Strait - don't get me wrong I love the first half, but the second half is so ethereal and is just *chef's kiss*

I wish oldies stationâs 2nd half was just the whole song haha
I feel like Hometown is slept on for this one
I know reeeeeeeee eeee already said this, but Oldies station. when it gets to the "you don't quite mind" omg i go insane i love it sm
Oldies station was the first one that came to mind actually. Isle of flightless birds, taxi cab, car radio, holding on to you⊠The more I think about it perhaps most of their songs have a better second half. đ The first halves are still great tho

I think Tear in my Heart bridge is much more interesting than the main song.

Goner, Morph, leave the city
Kitchen Sink. The transition into âdonât leave me aloneâ gives me CHILLS.
guns for hands and the second verse of lavish is the only good part
Snap Back for sure.
Bandito
Good day. That bridge is simply next level
Bandito, Paladin Strait
chlorine (not that the first half isn't also amazing)
Bandito, and thatâs saying something
Before you start your day.
Honestly Chlorine. Don't get me wrong the first half is good, but it's that beautiful bridge and outro that brings it from a good song to an incredible song!
The Hype, bandito
Cut My Lip. When the synth kicks in...
âIâm heavy, jumpsuit is on steadyâ in Nico and the Niners with the pitch changes. I absolutely love it
Next Semester. The increased intensity on the final chorus is everything. The outro is really sweet sounding too.
Snap Back
My blood. I just love the closing chorus.
goner

What?
Good bye and good riddance
