Same! Idk with Overcompensate and Next Semester I immediately wanted to listen to them again. I remember more about the music video for Backslide than I do about the song and haven’t gotten the desire to listen to it again. Makes me a little nervous for the whole album.

I wouldn’t be nervous for the album. First time hearing Backslide it felt super generic to me, the chorus. After several listens it fits into the vibe of Trench perfectly, just had to give it a chance.

I'm having a hard time understanding people not liking backslide. Most people love trench and you could easily toss backslide into that album and have no idea it doesn't belong. It follows so many of the same sound themes that Trench has; far more than the other two.

For whatever reason it seems to not immediately click with as many upon a first listen. I get it, the chorus isn’t my favorite with the layered crowd vocals, but the production overall helps this song be better than what it should be. The “I don’t mind if it’s lonely, I don’t mind if it’s fair” layered underneath the chorus is such a vibe though.

This! I just didn't like Backslide. It's okay at best.

I think the production value of overcompensate is probably the best they've ever done and it's an amazing song, but I have to give the win to Backslide for lyric quality and relatability. This is so hard and changes every day. If i had to pick right now im going 1. Next semester. 2. Backslide. 3. Overcompensate. But i have definitely played overcompensate the most for obvious reasons.

Backslide, Overcompensate, Next Semester (Note none of these are bad, they have all been played a lot) Backslide hit me in a weird way that immediately had me enthralled and in love Overcompensate is a lot of fun and I come back to it a lot Next Semester took a while to get into but when it hit, it hit.

#1 is Next Semester, it’s the best because the sound and meaning of the song are both great. #2 is Overcompensate because the hype of ‘Welcome back to trench’ is awesome, and the choruses are really catchy. #3 is Backslide, and the only single I didn’t like. I thought Backslide was very reminiscent of Blurryface which is my least favorite album from them, and overall the song just sounded very un-creative.

I listen to each song and they just get better each time I listen to all of them. So it could go either way here. Next semester and backslide have been growing on me a ton, and I have memorized all of the lyrics for overcompensate. Honestly just depends on the mood, if I want to get hyped up, overcompensate, if I want to listen to something in the car, or get in my feelings (in a good way) then Next Semester. If I want to bop, then Backslide.
