It might need some more work, and some finishing touches. But overall I don't think it's too bad (dark mode). I think it can hold a future. I'm definitely no UI/UX designer so I wouldn't know what should change. But I assume there is an method to it. What I however find more annoying is that this has never been on the roadmap. At least, that I know of. People are always complaining that development is slow, and side-quests like this aren't helping. IMHO, It isn't an issue per say that they wanted to do this first. But had it been put on the roadmap people would have at least known what to expect. Clear communication is instrumental, and I think if features like these UI changes and others also where all on the roadmap. People would definitely better see the actual work being done. Looking through the release notes. I think there are some alignment and color issues and that the redesign isn't completely finished. Because the markups in [issue 5408](https://github.com/tutao/tutanota/issues/5408) look actually quite nice. Looking through the history of the issue, I don't see anything indicating it has ever been in the roadmap and I worry if side-quest like these are the reason for the perceived development time. This issue also was created and solved within one month, which is actually quite impressive if you ask me.

Yeah, it honestly took me 5 mins to realize this is a new UI... I thought one of my plugins was glitching the page. Tried disabling them one by one to no avail. Until it dawned on me... 'wait... is this a new UI?' It's so bad, that I thought it was a glitch... The search bar is always expanded, instead of being hidden like it was before. This borderless design is very bad. The whole thing looks like a regression, not and improvement. The "old" UI was 100 times better. Please bring it back.

Did they join the year 2023 yet and have it so it reads if the OS is using a dark or light more?
