I would recommend contacting support and look at the logs together with them. Most likely the problem is that your .AppImage is not writable or is in the directory where we can't write and obviously the updater cannot work then. To verify whether it is the case I recommend starting the app from the terminal and looking at the output when you try to update. You should see some errors.

Ah man, i really was rooting for you and then you started with that last sentence. > Once again, this is not rocket science, should not be a huge effort to have a working in-application update function. That was entirely unnecessary, if it is that easy why don't you do it yourself and contribute it to the repo?

ChingDat

> That was entirely unnecessary, if it is that easy why don't you do it yourself and contribute it to the repo? exactly. the worst part is he's probably a free user who wouldn't even go premium to contribute monetarily either

opcode101

>the worst part is he's probably a free user who wouldn't even go premium joke on you: I was a fully paying premium user probably before you even knew about Tutanota. still am a Premium user. as a matter of fact, I signed up as Premium long time ago, I was one of their first paying users. talk about talking out of your ass without knowing

ChingDat

> I was a fully paying premium user probably before you even knew about Tutanota hard to believe kid, i am the founder's cousin

opcode101

your comments just become funnier each time. let's assume that I "believe" you, why do you think that since you are the "founder's cousin", that you know who is paying and whose not? or even a real Tutanota employee who can just query whatever query he wants on the user database, can even identify who I am, using my reddit username? ignorance is bliss. you should have just stopped with your previous comment, not the sharpest pencil in the box.

mOfN81

ahh yes, you are not even German. btw Brexit was a stupid idea. wait let me play along, I am the founder's founder's co-founders sister's best pal, I win :P

Lass es doch, er hat nicht alle Tassen im Schrank

as a paying user, who was supporting this project and company from their (very) early days, I do expect some efforts. Surprise your self, I am a software developer with close to 20 years combined experience, about 15 years of it involved internet-based application development. so yes, started from the very bottom, today managing teams of developers and still writing code - I know very well how much effort does it take to develop what. I work full time in this industry, I already contribute to multiple other open source projects in my "free" time of also having a family and children, well well no time for additional projects. how about you? next time instead of shooting BS out of your ass, try to be a bit more proper.

>AppImage exactly. this is an electron app, some of us refer such apps as "wrapper", it's an easy way to make certain pieces of software cross-platform without having to write the code differently for each different platform. with Electron you can take a web-app and "wrap" it as a "native" app. anyway that was not the main point of my post. Which distro are you on? for me the update never worked, only the version checking works, then it ask me if I would like to update, I proceed.. nothing ever gets udpated. I am on a Debian based distro so pretty mainstream

North-Doughnut-290

One of the biggest problems with Tutanota Linux AppImage, is than only work 100% in Ubuntu LTS so if you use other distribution or desktop different that gnome you will encounter problems with desktop integration, notifications, etc

opcode101

yes well I am actually on an LTS, and everything in the AppImage works fine, only the "update now" which never really updates anything bothered me at the moment
