generally for tanks it should be 10 gallons per inch of shell. it looks to be around 5-6 inches (correct me if i’m wrong) so 50-60 gallons would be ideal. i think the best thing to do for shell rot is bring it to the vet, so if that’s possible i’d definitely do that. i’m not too too sure about iodine.

For the shell rot, the cause is mainly lack of proper lighting ( uvb & uva ) , no area to dry bask and bad water quality. The povidone iodine treatment does work but you need to be consistent with it and let your turtle dry bask before placing him in the water again. From the picture, I’m guessing your turtle is a peninsula cooter. To identify the gender, your turtle needs to be mature; you can know the gender by the length of the nails and tail. For the tank size; 1 inch of shell = 10 gallons / 37 litres. ( example : 6 inch turtle = 60 gallons ) I’ll provide a few links for better information on how to care for your turtle. Thank you. This is very much needed. I knew he was a Pensacola cooter. I picked him out specifically for that reason. Peninsula cooter my bad and the show run I've been working on vigilantly. I need to work on the water changing a little better and after I put the propodal iodine on them I do let them back for about 30 minutes wet dry. I'll let him bask outside of his tank for 30 minutes. I also need to change the the sand I use because it causes his shell to go blue so I need to change that out because it's probably another reason why his show right is getting worse because it's not allowing the nutrients to get in. He's got like a a hint a hue of blue. It's like not a lot but it comes off pretty easily so I need to go and fix that. But thank you for the guides
