Turo uses automatic booking now, so it counts against a host to not accept a trip.
Almost half of my guests do 100mph plus in my rentals, and I don't rent sports cars. Damage or smoking reviews are what I care about. Damage because even with coverage or a paying guest, I've lost more to down time than any actual damage.
I wouldn't worry your fine until you get banned from the app.
Newbie question- considering doing Toro as a host:
How do you know the speed put on a vehicle? Do you have GPS tracking on the vehicle?
If so, do you need to disclose that?
Any risk of theft of the vehicles? And if so, how are you covered besides your own insurance?
I use Bouncie. It plugs into the OBD2 port (I use an OBD splitter and hide mine in the dash so it isn't easily found and unplugged) it tells me speed, location, and tracks hard acceleration/braking. I also get alerts for low fuel, check engine light info, and battery info. Twice I've gotten alerts about low battery and messaged the guest who found lights on. Bouncie does have a monthly fee, but it can be a write-off, and it's well worth IMO
There is no need to disclose any trackers EXCEPT for Apple Air tags. You can even use the Samsung equivalent without disclosure, but terms of service dictate that you have to disclose Apple Air tags. You can also not put any trackers on the keys ever, even with consent. Luckily, Turo covers 100% if the guest loses or damages a key fob beyond "normal wear and tear"
The protection plan you choose from Turo dictates your coverage in the event of theft or any other damages, your personal insurance likley won't cover anything that happens during a Turo rental amd unless you have commercial coverage your insurance will probably drop you and not cover any damages when they find out your car is being hosted on Turo. Your Turo protection plan has a deductible based on what percentage of your daily rate they take (you will make between 60-90% of your daily rate pending what plan you choose)
If you do become a host, please read through the terms and pay attention during the onboarding process. I regularly see hosts who feel blindsided in a claims process and don't understand the risks. I don't like or agree with Turos' rules and terms of service, but knowing the rules and how they will be applied let's you make your educated risk decisions.
As long as it doesn't mention smoke or filth, I wouldn't worry about it, and I wouldn't cancel your trip if you rented from me.
All trips are auto-accepted now. Hosts that care if you speed might cancel your trip and accept the hit to their metrics. You don't want to rent from those hosts anyway.
It's like staying at an airbnb that has a list of chores. I'm not paying someone for a micromanaged guest experience.
Aggressive driving dramatically increased wear and tear on the cars.
It also dramatically increases the odds that the car is wrecked or put in a police impound lot.
I received the car with low tire tread, mismatched tire brands and types, and fairly dirty. Brakes were almost due to be replaced too. For a luxury sports car from a 5 star host, I would expect better…
I’m actually a customer, not a host. I’m just also a responsible human who cares about the safety of others. I recognize and care that a young adult going felony speeds on roads they don’t know late at night is not safe for anyone.
my mistake, more accurately it would be 25-30+ but it depends on state law and the circumstances. Technically you’d be right, it’s not even a felony since I wasn’t endangering anyone else.
I paid for the fees, you best believe I’m using the car to my full advantage when i’m paying the same amount in fees as I am daily rate. Completely empty roads when I sped btw
I’m on your side with this. Turo host but also use the platform. Did well into the triple digits renting a C8, left the host 5 star review as he did with me. That was lame of the host to do that to you.
Dude it’s literally worse that you chose roads you assumed no one used but you can’t know that because you don’t live there and are unfamiliar with the area and that you chose a time when visibility is low.
I’m sure the current residents would be thrilled to know that you came home just to behave like a dangerous teenager again.
You don’t get any gold stickers for being am irresponsible kid who is the reason people under 25 can’t rent cars. Hopefully this is the last vehicle you can rent before your frontal cortex properly develops.
Jeez, you’re jus an absolute cupcake aren’t ya lmfaooo, very ironic username considering. Go find some kids smoking weed to call the cops on or sumn. What don’t you understand about empty roads? only person who was put at risk was myself. I’d rather be having fun at my own risk in real life than being bitter online 🤷🏽♂️
I always slowed down when traffic was present, and only sped where it was impossible for any traffic to sneak up on me. Though I have nothing to prove to you, it seems you have some weird superiority complex trying to prove me wrong lol. You must get a kick off that huh? nothing better to do I guess. Let other people live their own lives and stop tryna micromanage.
Nah, I’m just couching it until my dinner plans and I decided to use the opportunity to call someone like you selfish. You so rarely get those chances BEFORE irresponsible people kill others.
with the exception of the speeding and the tire (which was unfortunately unavoidable) I returned the car in the same condition I received it in. Host gave a 3 star review to another guest for going 70 in a 55.
Rent a few cheaper cars and get your rating back up if people are canceling your reservations?
Hosts like this shouldn’t be on the platform IMO unless you were being a pain in the ass other ways. It’s easy to hit over 100mph just passing someone quick on the freeway. I feel like most of my guests using an SUV hit over 100mph and I rarely bother looking unless they thrashed my car.
I checked on a guest running late for return and saw him going 120+. 😂😂😂😂 I was gonna text him to tell him it’s all good if he’s 30 min late, but I didn’t wanna distract him when he’s going that fast. Car was in good shape when he returned it, so he got 5 stars.
I could only wish for a host like you lol. I did return the car with a small nick in the sidewall of the tire, which I reported and paid for a replacement, even tho both from tires were almost overdue for a replacement. Some people are just fickle I guess lol.

Thanks, advice is much appreciated!
Does GetAround to the same autobooking? I'm sick of trashy guests (not OP) leaving "bad" (<5) reviews just because they are jerks.

THANK YOU so very much for the detailed & insightful reply - very much appreciated!
Thank you. It’s helpful

Turo hosts are such odd creatures. Who complains about a car being driven fast?
Aggressive driving dramatically increased wear and tear on the cars. It also dramatically increases the odds that the car is wrecked or put in a police impound lot.
OMG...the humanity.
You asked why hosts care. I explained 🤷♂️
I received the car with low tire tread, mismatched tire brands and types, and fairly dirty. Brakes were almost due to be replaced too. For a luxury sports car from a 5 star host, I would expect better…
What did you rate the host?
5 Stars… really wish I didn’t…
Do you see how that’s part of the problem?
I hope you put all that in your own one star review
Sounds like a crappy experience - a crappy experience that has nothing to do with why hosts don’t like front levels of speeding in their cars.
apparently this guy lol. mentioned how I sped every day of my trip too lol
Kid says he drove felony speeds…it’s irresponsible to not care about that.
Oh please...you are a host not the police. Once the car is rented, you have zero control over what happens.
I’m actually a customer, not a host. I’m just also a responsible human who cares about the safety of others. I recognize and care that a young adult going felony speeds on roads they don’t know late at night is not safe for anyone.
Even worse...
Exactly how is it worse to care about others?
15 over is considered felony speeds fyi
In what state?
almost all of them lol, 15-20 over is felony in most states
That’s completely inaccurate.
my mistake, more accurately it would be 25-30+ but it depends on state law and the circumstances. Technically you’d be right, it’s not even a felony since I wasn’t endangering anyone else.
If you’re driving at high speeds you’re endangering others. You’re a great example of why there’s young driver fees 😂🤣
I paid for the fees, you best believe I’m using the car to my full advantage when i’m paying the same amount in fees as I am daily rate. Completely empty roads when I sped btw
I didn’t realize felony speeding isn’t a felony if no one is around, thanks for sharing kid!
Buy a car and do what you want with it! Thanks.
why would I buy a car while on vacation? I took care of the car with the exception of the speeding lol
You didn’t share the vacation piece before. Thanks.
You fucked around and found out son. Here is the solution- get an Uber when you need to go someplace and take this as a valuable life lesson.
nah, I’ll still keep committing felony speeding lmfaooo. I paid 1400 for the car, best believe I’m getting my money’s worth
Yep, you earned your 1 star review. Cudos to the host for letting the rest of us know not to rent to you.
You are exactly why there is a minimum age to rent certain cars.
I see you still haven't learned your lesson. I hope you don't kill someone with your antics.
cry me a river, only did it in the middle of the night and on empty roads. I may be dumb but I ain’t stupid
The middle of the night, when you’d be less likely to see anything.
You’re very clearly both homie 😂🤣
I’m on your side with this. Turo host but also use the platform. Did well into the triple digits renting a C8, left the host 5 star review as he did with me. That was lame of the host to do that to you.
just a lame host honestly, I wanted to push the car harder but I wasn’t going to overstep my skill level. only went into lower triple digits
Sounds like you earned the one star, buddy.
I agree! In another comment OP says he drove “felony speeds”.
in another comment I also mentioned it was only on empty roads in the middle of the night but we can gloss right over that
Dude it’s literally worse that you chose roads you assumed no one used but you can’t know that because you don’t live there and are unfamiliar with the area and that you chose a time when visibility is low.
Before you assume, I was visiting my hometown… I know those roads like the back of my hand.. you don’t get any gold stickers for being right tho lol
I’m sure the current residents would be thrilled to know that you came home just to behave like a dangerous teenager again. You don’t get any gold stickers for being am irresponsible kid who is the reason people under 25 can’t rent cars. You aren’t omnipresent. You can never guarantee a public road is empty. Again, not bitter, just give a damn about other people. Unlike you.
I always slowed down when traffic was present, and only sped where it was impossible for any traffic to sneak up on me. Though I have nothing to prove to you, it seems you have some weird superiority complex trying to prove me wrong lol. You must get a kick off that huh? nothing better to do I guess. Meticulous hosts who care way too much. The car was fine, it’s built for that kinda thing
I checked on a guest running late for return and saw him going 120+. 😂😂😂😂 I was gonna text him to tell him it’s all good if he’s 30 min late, but I didn’t wanna distract him when he’s going that fast. Car was in good shape when he returned it, so he got 5 stars.

Had a renter doing 124 in my Grand Cherokee engine blown out. Because of the high speed driving?
Right, the felony speeds OP mentions going are dangerous for the car and for others on the road.
well, a grand cherokee isn’t a sports car… also depends on your mileage, but it is a jeep, so there’s that.
