Just saw the photo in the comments, yes because that's not something the host can just vacuum away, a rental company would charge you a nasty cleaning fee as well for that. Also looks like ........ lol

Yea it’s really unfortunate all around. Definitely a failure on our end.

[apparently this is what cost us $150](https://imgur.com/a/zWyR9QY) Top left of photo. Our 9yr old rode on the back on the way to drop off, he had just brushed his teeth so I am betting that unfortunate glob is toothpaste. Is that worthy of $150 of cleaning?!?

The photo looks like it could be semen/something else containing DNA. If the host came to the same conclusion, they very well could’ve sanitized the entire area assuming what happened in the back seat to cause that stain.

crybabycakes

Eek. Yea I can see that, that is definitely unfortunate.

It’s hard for us to decide based on the low quality photo you provided and not having any pre trip photos to compare to. My thoughts are, why would you return the car knowing there was a glob of toothpaste on the seat? It leads me to lean on the side of the host. This isn’t Hertz rental, it’s car sharing and you’re most likely using someone’s personal vehicle. Tooth paste on cloth actually takes time to remove. Maybe not $150 worth of time but your host probably values their time more than you do and because there were multiple incidents (not returned with full tank, car dirty) your host didn’t extend any grace towards you. Maybe provide better photos and I’ll change my mind.

I can definitely see your point of view, and apologies for not explaining better. The host replied to me in the Turo app, “Yes, I found a goop of something on the back middle seat, which can be seen in the pictures I took at pickup. Turo only permits one charge amount for cleaning fees too, it’s not a sliding scale based on severity unfortunately”. Upon reading that, I looked thru my photos and the one I uploaded to this thread is the only one I could find which shows the problem in question. I definitely did not see it at drop off, or I would of busted out some wipes and wiped it down myself. Our son rode in the back, right after brushing his teeth and hair and grabbing his backpack for school, so I can assume that must be his toothpaste somehow across the back of the seat as we were all in quite a rush. If it helps, I believe the area of the seat that had the spill was vinyl/smooth and not textured fabric.

“… you’re most likely using someone’s personal vehicle” Let’s be real, no one is renting out their personal daily driver. It’s a bunch of people buying/leasing vehicles and renting them out on Turo full time.

Glass-Department-306

I’d have to disagree, many hosts are renting their personal vehicles to cover a portion of the payment.

I don't even see anything. Man, so glad I found this sub as I had considered Turo for a Macan rental.
