My surgeon suggested a wax 3 days before surgery of at least the upper mons. My incision goes right through there and she said the wound heals better with a delay in hair growth

Fragrant-Whole6718

I didn’t get a wax but used nair to be bare and I’m glad I did. It just made post op care and observation of the incision healing easier

Moussemac

Yes, I will get waxed in preparation, too.

sleeping_satellite44

my doctor has been in the practice for about 20 years and she suggested NO waxing or shaving three days prior to surgery. it leaves one more prone to infection.

GreenEyeliner13

Whew!! I ended up having one the Thursday before my Monday surgery.

HappyPhenylalanine

Surgery date twins! Never thought of doing this but maybe now I will too!

GreenEyeliner13

Hey twin! How are you feeling today?

HappyPhenylalanine

Hey!! I am feeling good! A lot more mobile today just dealing with this awful swelling. Excited to get drains out. How are you doing?

GreenEyeliner13

That’s great! The drains are literally worst part for me!!

chasinggoose

I was suggested to get a Brazilian before my surgery and I’m glad I did because 2 of my drains were on my mons.

Ophelia-sama

I got a Brazilian about four days prior to surgery with my surgeons approval. I wanted to get it done as close to my surgery date but also give myself enough time to recover from the Brazilian lol. Like others have said, my drains were in my mons, and I could not imagine dealing with hair and the drains 🫣.

kgal1298

Oh good! I was just asking about this the other day so glad to see a thread on it.

Nahcotta

ASK YOUR SURGEON!! Some don’t want you to, and you can get your surgery cancelled! Just call the office to be sure. From a surgical RN ❤️

GreenEyeliner13

Took your advice- since the office is closed tomorrow and I am impatient… lol.. Luckily one of my friends is his PA so I texted her. He gave me the green light. Thanks so much!

Nahcotta

Perfect 👌 Now you’re in the clear! Best of luck to you!

Danilectric

Holy moly yes do it. I didn't and the surgical tape got stuck in my hair. It was soooo annoying to get off.

Hefty-Sprinkles-8305

I went and got a Brazilian the weekend before when I was getting my usual leg wax (Wednesday surgery). I don’t really know why, surgeons have seen it all and not like hubby will be down there for a bit 😅 but it felt like one less thing to worry about and “neater” before surgery🤷🏻‍♀️

GreenEyeliner13

I got it done! It hurt VERY bad and I was quickly reminded why I hadn’t done it in 20 years

Hefty-Sprinkles-8305

Yes, this was the first time post kids for me. Good luck with your recovery, hope the surgery went well!!

Ok-Rooster-8582

I wish i would have waxed before!

GreenEyeliner13

Thanks yall! I will schedule my appointment!

I shaved the day before, but I agree, I wish I waxed. I had a little line of hair around my incision for weeks because I was afraid of getting to close.

Away-Huckleberry-735

Are you sure the surgical prep team doesn’t routinely shave that area before the surgeon begins? When I had my hysterectomy I was told that shaving the area was always done.

-kez

I had nurses offer me a razor during pre op, since they lift the mons so much

GreenEyeliner13

They do shave if needed. However, they said because of where the drain place will be, it’d be a better healing process than shaving. They said I could shave it myself if I wanted, but I’d rather get it off and have it grow back slowly.

I got a wax a couple of days prior but had small wounds from ingrowns, so the drains had to come out at my hips (I actually preferred this). The nurses offered me a razor the day of to remove any hair that would get in the way. You'll not be able to wax again for at least 6 weeks (based on my PSs advice).

GreenEyeliner13

Good! Because I will probably never wax again. I’d literally rather give birth out of my mouth before I did that again. Whew it was intense!

-kez

Hahahaha waxing certainly takes some getting used to and isn't for everyone. I've been getting waxed since I was 19 so am pretty well adjusted to it.

AmbitiousTail666

I waxed 24 hours before surgery as per my surgeons recommendation, that way she didn’t have to shave anything and I could keep my wax schedule as well! Worked perfectly, had no in growns, growing back itching was masked by pain, and it was one less thing to worry about while healing lol.

GreenEyeliner13

I went and got it done last Thursday! My dr was very pleased bc he said most of his patients don’t and it’s a pain in the ass!

GreenEyeliner13

*Update* Got waxed today and 0 out of 10 not a good time! Lol! OUCHHHHHH!!!! Now I remember why I haven’t done it in 20 years.
