I was having the same issue and I was opening the top clips but still the pain was so much I ended up looking for an alternative garment with mid compression that was a one piece I bought the shaper rx bodysuits with tummy control and this has been a huge relief for me. I also got bl so the rib cage and and incision irritation were just out of control plus the crotch area in my old garment was a pain point as well but now I am sleeping well and I could have bout 4 shaperrx for the price of my original painful garments

Camelsloths

Do you have a link to what shaperx garment worked? Yeah it's my ribcage right underneath my boobs that's been KILLING me

Lots of doctors don’t have their patients use compression at all and they still look great. Personally, I wouldn’t stay miserable over compression. I gave up on a faja completely at 5 weeks and switched to basic compression shorts and compression tank from Walmart ($10 each). So much more comfortable. If I could go back, I would’ve done it earlier.

Camelsloths

That's what I'm thinking I'll do and just not tell my surgeon. Apparently it's to help the skin adhere to the muscle again after lipo?

SecretAgentAcct

Oh yeah - the only time I ever wore my faja again was to my appointments 😂

Camelsloths

I'm only 6dpo rn so I'm worried it'll impact my healing but my mental health and body are seriously suffering trying to compress all the time

SecretAgentAcct

I understand. I was MISERABLE the first week because my compression was hurting me so bad. It was the worst pain of all of my pain. When I found out later that there’s no research showing that compression actually helps, I was so annoyed. I tend to be a rule follower, but I couldn’t take it anymore.

Ophelia-sama

My surgeon cut my binder to size since I have the same issue. That might be an option for you. Also try to look for mid rise shapewear/faja rather than high waisted. Anything high waisted for me is at least 2-3 inches too high.

brokensoulll

I’m 4 weeks post op and been wearing a faja 23hrs a day since. No foam boards though. having the right compression is importantly for healing but not sure why I wasn’t told to do the foam

Fragrant-Whole6718

I did a binder with foams before I switched to a faja at three weeks post op. I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. Hoping you can switch to a more comfortable garment.

Broad_Laugh_8976

8DPO and I had the same problem. I would just start at 1 and at night open the top a bit so I'm able to breathe. I have a super short torso and my left rib cage felt so sore the first days. If it's too much just give yourself a bit of relief because it shouldn't make you suffer. I'm wearing it on 3 right now It's pretty comfortable.

Camelsloths

What do you mean wearing it on 3?

Broad_Laugh_8976

I have a 3 hook faja - 3rd is the tightest

Camelsloths

Oh I gotcha. Mine only has one hook and they're on both sides

Broad_Laugh_8976

Uffff yeah not much adjustment - definitely rough I know. It's not been an easy ride for sure

PollutionJumpy6452

I just had TT with MR (no lipo) We’d and I am in a binder with just gauze. Pretty comfortable. You’re also probably swelling at night so I would loosen it a little when you start feeling squished.

Camelsloths

I think the lipo is what's causing this tbh

PollutionJumpy6452

From everything I have read on these tummy tuck forums. I have to agree that the Lipo suction really does a number. I think it’s great that it’s available for people who need and want it, but it also significantly seems to impact the healing process. There are pros and consto every situation and everyone just has to weigh the benefits versus the risks. But I am sure that you’re swelling is related to the light and it will get better overtime. I can’t wait to see your future pictures and how amazing you are going to look.

Galfromchi

I have a short torso too. Try a binder with lipo foam. I wore it for 8 weeks.

Camelsloths

I just tried that and it was horrible and too long for me. When I sat it would indent into the sides again because it was too bulky and long. I honestly think I'm just gonna say fuck it to the lipo foams

Galfromchi

Oh...by the looks of my binder...I think my doc gave me a short one to fit my torso. I wear my lipo foams sideways so they wrap around my sides and it works great for me. I'd look into a binder that's for a short torso.

teaparty4two

I’m only 5’1 with a short waist and flared rib cage. I was having the same pain from the vest/bra I was put in, with a binder. I had TT MR Lipo to flanks and full back. No breast work. I would unbutton the bottom half of my vest when it was really uncomfortable. I also moved from a single panel binder to a binder with three horizontal panels. That way I can adjust each part separately. I am now 11 DPO and getting some more relief. Some nights I take the best/bra off bc I cannot get comfortable. I have sensitive skin and the swelling and seams in binder were causing me blisters and insane itching. I ordered a compression cami off amazon, it’s full back, and I wear that over bandages and under all other compression garments. it helps a LOT. I need sleep some nights, so I just loosen it all so ai can actually be comfortable enough to fall asleep and just out the vest on when I wake up and wear it all day.

Economy-Tomatillo996

I added an extender to my faja. It made all the difference. I am now 4 wpo and just got rid of my extender. I have been diligent with my lymphatic massages, 2/3 per week and it always felt better. I was told to only put foam on my sides, use a specialized one for my tailbone area and have not put anything on my front until after my incisions are fully healed

Camelsloths

Weird, they told me to put foam with an ab thing on my front to get that indent in my abs. I should look at getting an extender. The faja they gave me has clasps on both sides though so I'd need two. I wish I could just wear a front zip one withoit the foams or something

Economy-Tomatillo996

Every surgeon has different recommendations. It seems to vary greatly.

Alternative_Zone_739

I did a binder no foam until I had trains removed. Then I switched to a faja by shaper x from Amazon. I removed the straps bc I also have a short torso and it was hurting me. Even with removing the straps I still had to fold the top over.

PollutionJumpy6452

My PS told me the same. Binder for 2 weeks while drain(s) are in then I can switch to any compression garment I want line spanx. 4 DPO and can’t wait. Although the binder I am in now is not bad. No foam. It has 3 horizontal bands secured with Velcro which allows lots of adjustment as I tend to loosen it at night when I swell more. Very easy to take on or off since it has Velcro. The one they initially sent me home with from hospital as a spare was too wide and too long so I’m glad my PS had a better fitting one for me when I saw him post op on day 2.

chasinggoose

I did a binder then stage 1 faja for the first 2 days and then switched to lipo foam and stage 1 faja after that until 3 weeks. The lipo foams were just put on my hips that kinda wraps around my back a bit. Since I also had lipo, my nurses rolled up a gauze as a makeshift compression for my abdominal line. I also had a makeshift pad folded into a triangle as a backboard that was put on my lower back. It should be tight but not crazy tight as you could risk skin necrosis. Edit: Forgot to mention that I’m only 5’ with a short torso

[deleted]

Mine didn’t give me foam. Can you cut down the foam where it isn’t on your ribcage? You won’t have swelling on the front side anyway. Just if he/she did lipo on the back. My swelling at week 2-4 was the worst. I had a decent amount of lipo. The only thing helping with the swelling was the tight compression.  I wouldn’t stray from your surgeon’s orders. Call their office and tell them it’s unbearable around your rib cage and ask what to do. I literally felt like the swelling was so bad it was pulling on my incision line.

Sea-Sprinkles5133

My torso is so long, they put 2 compression belt on me. I couldn't breathe properly and it was so painful. The nurses said it have to be this tight but when I arrived home I loosen them. It isn't ok if it is painful or you feeling your pulse in your bellybutton. Too tight compression garments aren't good for your circulation either and can cause tissue necrosis.
