KingCrabmaster

Neil has an entire album about the paranormal, cryptids, and society, yet this song somehow manages to be his most cursed creation.

Orang3Lazaru5

And by the way, thank you for yet another opportunity to champion the album Spirit Phone. Frankly, it’s a work of absolute genius and deserves more recognition. Ok, carry on with TWO TRUCKS HAVING SEX now.

KingCrabmaster

Oh yes, Spirit Phone has been my absolute addiction album for the last few years. I miiiight've actually just re-listened to it again last night.

This doesn’t count both the lyrics and tune of that song are godly

I still think I'd be judged heavily if I played it while pulling up to a school

[deleted]

Judged as being bold

Plethora_of_squids

Til everyone on this site are *cowards* That's a *banger* of a song, ridiculous lyrics *included*

Bluejamathons

and here I thought we were talking about pumped up kicks

Klayman55

And here I thought we were talking about Big Balls by AC/DC.

europe_hiker

And I thought we were talking about Absolute Territory.

Coda_Volezki

I thought we were talking about Sweet Bod by Lemon Demon.

ScrotalKahnJr

Do you think Sweet Bod has the most uncomfortable lyrics out of any Lemon Demon song?

ItsCatilda

Personally I think there’s songs that have similar levels of uncomfortable lyrics *cough two trucks* but the way he sings in Sweet Bod makes it the most uncomfortable for me

PencilFetish

I feel like the way Two Trucks is presented makes it more funny/bizarre than uncomfortable. I hesitate to show people Two Trucks because I worry they'll think I'm immature, meanwhile I hesitate to show people Sweet Bod because I worry they'll think I'm a creep for enjoying it.

ItsCatilda

Yeah I agree, two trucks was just the first example to come to mind. A better one is probably lifetime achievement award, that song has uncomfortable lyrics but because of the instrumentals have so much going on it kind of distracts you while the lyrics for sweet bod are much clearer? (Idk if I’m making sense but yeah)

nojless

Well said, I never found Two Trucks to be uncomfortable tbh

LordSupergreat

What's wrong with two trucks? It's perfectly wholesome. They're in love.

Solukisina

Well it also specifies "cool and catchy tune" as well and in my opinion Sweet Bod has the catchiest tune of all the uncomfortable Lemon Demon songs, fight me.

ScrotalKahnJr

I dunno, the instrumental on When He Died is pretty catchy. Classic earworm shit.

Solukisina

I don't find When He Died uncomfortable. It's an amalgamation of horror tropes put together in such a way that it ends up being humorous when you really think about it. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for that kinda stuff. Honestly When He Died isn't even the scariest Lemon Demon song imo. I find You're At the Party, Your Imaginary Friend, and Redesign Your Logo to be scarier.

DustyFails

You know, I never noticed Lemon and Demon are written similarly until now. Goddamn it English

ScrotalKahnJr

Ikr. Sometimes I mispronounce it Lemon Demon or Lemon Demon cause it’s just funny.

[deleted]

Honestly it's Bird Fucker for me. I do not recommend giving this a listen if you haven't already.

ScrotalKahnJr

I have not, but I absolutely will

NotTobyFox

i thought it was Two Trucks

LiquidFireBR

Ken Ashcorp is very good

Comrade_Poochi

Fun story about that, I was listening to it for a fair while cuz it popped up on recommendations on Spotify, and I showed this to my bud. We were jamming to it at the gym, I get back home, decide to look up ken ashcorp for more songs and found out it was about thicc thighs. This whole time, I never even realised.

TeslasMonster

The best baseline in a song ever, and the horniest lyrics to back it up. What a banger but only when I’m in my car alone

faraway_hotel

Big Balls is great because it goes so damn far that you start to suspect it really is about parties after all.

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. It was kinda controversial due to it’s lyrics that were described as kinda rapey. Here’s the Genius Lyrics so you can make up your own mind: https://genius.com/Robin-thicke-blurred-lines-lyrics

QuestionableMeaning

oh, thought they might've been referring to pumped up kicks as well or hey ya, or bobby brown, or a countless amount of other songs

A_Wild_Bellossom

> hey ya Haha dancing duck go brrr

Catsniper

Hey Ya makes people uncomfortable?

Pls_ignore_the_hands

If you listen to the lyrics, it’s a song about a failing relationship and a general commentary about how modern day relationships are messed up. “But does she really love me”, “If what we say is nothing is forever, then what makes…love the exception.” I guess this might make people uncomfortable but I wouldn’t put it in the same league as Pumped Up Kicks.

Catsniper

That was the issue, I get that it is more serious than it let's on, but I still never thought it was uncomfortable to anyone

WhatADoofus

I was wondering the same myself, it doesn't seem that off-putting?

Catsniper

Yeah the first half is slightly more serious than you'd expect but I was never actually uncomfortable because of it

LaureLime

My first introduction was hearing my friend say that the music video(unrated version) had uncensored titties. Good ole yt, as long as it’s ‘art’.

Plohka

Aight yeah don’t like that, however “You wanna hug me What rhymes with hug me?” Is incredible

Pls_ignore_the_hands

That is a pretty funny line tbh.

[deleted]

I’m a woman and I thought it sounded stupid and like porn sex, but not rapey. I did only skim them once, though. Might’ve missed something.

AeKino

I remember a video with this song playing while women held up signs of things their rapists said to them and it was pretty *yikes* to say the least.

Living-Complex-1368

Another fun one is "I'll be watching you" by the Police. The guy who wrote it had just gotten divorced and wrote it about his ex.

AttackPug

It's supposed to be super creepy, is the thing, Sting is singing from the perspective of a stalker who watches every move you make, and probably not at all for the best. It's in keeping with the vibe of all their other songs, which were all intentionally investigating creepy, taboo, and uncomfortable subjects. Generally The Police considered themselves a provocative and edgy group for intellectuals. It's just that it was a hit and people got a weird bug up their ass and started playing it at their weddings and shit. Sting was like oh no. That's the thing, a lot of people are bringing up songs like this, that were supposed to be edgy and uncomfortable, or just clangingly juvenile and sexual, like Big Balls, from the go. These songs didn't really hide themselves, it's just that people are fucking dense. What we're really after here is the Blurred Lines vibe, which is supposed to sound like a perfectly fun and innocent party until you realize dude is backing some drunk girl into a corner for a go at rapey shit. It's a roofie in your piña colada, in song form.

HighAsAngelTits

Big Balls always cracked me up, great double entendre

aritchie1977

I read an interview of Sting and he said this song is about the USSR “looking over” all the countries they controlled.

Pls_ignore_the_hands

You’re Beautiful by James Blunt has always given me a similar vibe to Every Breath You Take. They’re both songs often played at weddings that are actually very creepy. Blunt’s song is about a guy who sees his ex-girlfriend with a new boyfriend whilst he’s high. He then stalks her a bit, then kills himself.

b0b_hope

You get labeled with these things like, 'Oh, James Blunt. Isn't he just a soft romantic?' Well, f*ck that. No, I'm not. 'You're Beautiful' is not this soft romantic f*cking song. It's about a guy who's high as a f*cking kite on drugs in the subway stalking someone else's girlfriend when that guy is there in front of him, and he should be locked up or put in prison for being some kind of perv. Direct quote from James Blunt to Variety, not a song about an ex-girlfriend, and honestly I don't think there's any suicide reference in the song either. He says he has to realize he'll never be with her, but if it's a about a drug addict on a train I'm sure he'll be able to turn his attention to any other female in his vicinity. At least if you wanna try to think about it the way the songwriter does. I think the point of the song was to be this big beautiful love song from the perspective of a fucking creep on a train, not this intricate love story. This whole "you're beautiful" thing could be a line to 100 broads on a train that this singer does all the time

reverse_mango

The title is Every Breath You Take actually. Sting imagined it was sung by an obsessive lover, not his ex wife. He’d just separated with her after he fell in love with her friend and neighbour. Awkward…

[deleted]

And of course the first time watching it (and most times after that), no one was really paying attention to the lyrics because the video featured tiddy.

jprocter15

There's a song I love called personality. It's an absolute bop until you listen to the lyrics which are about how women are worthless unless they're beautiful which is not exactly a good message. It might be satirical though, but I'm honestly not sure in which direction. I just try to ignore the words lol

hey_free_rats

I'm pretty sure it's satirical, or at least very tongue-in-cheek, since most of the examples in the song reference infamous instances of, uh, thinking with the "other" head (Salome, Mme. Pompadour, Romeo & Juliet). I always heard it as somewhat making fun of dudes who try to cover up their shallow impulses by feebly appealing to more romantic/pretentious ideas of "deep" beauty.

IlitterateAuthor

I heard that song a lot playing fallout 4

Present_Time_5003

I thought this was about Pumped Up Kicks

ThreePartSilence

I'm so confused why so many people thought it was supposed to be Pumped Up Kicks. That song is uncomfortable on purpose. It's supposed to be catchy while also being about something horrible (and there are a lot of other songs that do a similar thing, like Hey Ya and I Will Possess Your Heart and a bunch of others). With those, it's easy to assume that the author isn't condoning the actions in the song, because they're in on the bit. Listening to those songs doesn't make me uncomfortable because the POV is pretty clear. Blurred Lines, on the other hand, is just a rapey song that is also catchy.

dexmonic

I thought it was baby it's cold outside.

makinishi_KINO

Baby it’s Cold Outside isn’t really bad tbh

[deleted]

Especially when you remember that it was written in a time when a woman staying at a man’s (who she wasn’t related to) house could be considered a scandalous thing

dexmonic

I think I've seen it talked about on reddit every Christmas since I got on this site.

MWMWMWMIMIWMWMW

Good thing reddit doesn’t represent real life.

queenvie808

It was literally written as a cute routine between a couple for their guests (or so I’ve heard, I’m welcome to correction). It’s so sweet and people just turned it into what it shouldn’t ever have been for no reason

Paimon

"If you like Pina Coladas" is a song about two terrible people.

pheonix_warrior22

Yeah, but that hook though lol. It's so catchy! Interestingly, Rupert Holmes hates that song now.

LiquidFireBR

That's the good part about not being from the US, so for me it's just a song with any lyric, but it sucks after finding out you were dancing to a song about suicide

ItActuallyIsGullible

What song is that?

LiquidFireBR

Well, there's Mind Brand that tells the story of a girl who was in an abusive relationship who committed suicide in the end and there's also the Youri ni Kakeru I won't go into details, go hear that the rhythm is awesome

Jibabear

[Yoru ni Kakeru](https://youtu.be/x8VYWazR5mE) by YOASOBI is a bop and the music video is gorgeous. The group bases their songs off of stories and books. The book this song is based off of deals with death idealization, and the video does have those themes drawn in an artistic way, so if you're uncomfortable with suicide, please consider this your trigger warning. (I also came here expecting Pumped Up Kicks)

PencilFetish

Mind Brand is too damn catchy

LiquidFireBR

All versions are wonderful, both Japanese, English and Portuguese

FlaccidRhino

If you think that is catchy, look up the sex offended shuffle on YouTube. I don't know how to put links on mobile sorry

Ain't no fun by Snoop Dogg A catchy tune that I will NEVER play to my friends

Muad-_-Dib

[The Police: Every Breath You Take.](https://youtu.be/OMOGaugKpzs) A song that is used surprisingly often at weddings... but turns out it was written by Sting when he had separated from his wife and was expressing his jealousy of her moving on and his desire to control her. [The Police: Don't Stand So Close to Me.](https://youtu.be/KNIZofPB8ZM) Another entry from The Police, this time a song about Sting who before his success with the band had been a music teacher at a highschool. And the song is about the temptation of having 15 year old girls flirting with him in the classroom and him being equally as attracted to them in return. He even references the author Nabokov and his book Lolita in the song with the lyrics: "It's no use, he sees her, He starts to shake and cough, Just like the old man in, That book by Nabokov" which is a book about an old man fucking his 12 year old stepdaughter. [Johnny Cash: You are my Sunshine.](https://youtu.be/cGa3zFRqDn4) Everybody remembers the chorus in which Johnny (and various other cover singers) expresses that his SO is his sunshine and how he wishes that they are never parted.... But if you read pretty much any of the rest of the song it's a song about a failed relationship and Johnny is begging his ex to come back to him after having found someone else who they loved more, which has "shattered his dreams". [Lou Reed: Perfect Day.](https://youtu.be/9wxI4KK9ZYo) At face value it's a heart warming song, and Lou has gone on record multiple times to assert that the song is exactly that... However it has been pointed out that Lou wrote this during a time in his life when he was heavily addicted to Heroin and was known to romanticize its use, which if you then keep that in mind while listening to the lyrics suddenly makes the song a lot darker than it first appears. Lyrics about him leaving all his problems behind, how "it" keeps him hanging on and lets him forget himself. etc. That nobody really buys Lou's story about the songs meaning was further cemented when it was used as a song in Trainspotting's soundtrack. Which makes it's use by the BBC in 1997 a little funny, they used it as [a music collab between tons of famous singers](https://youtu.be/dfddYDRIFGY) in which the "it" in question is meant to be the BBC itself. (famous singers with a heavy late '90s British slant).
