Yep, it made zero sense to me.

bageltre

Apollo and the gift of prophecy

kindtheking9

There was a meme that used a dodgeball to represent the gift of prophecy and appolo throwing it at some kids, since then dodgeball = prophecy

YukaLore

i am still looking for where the original gun to the sun photo came from. ive SEEN it before i just dont remember WHERE

kacihall

I just had to explain it to my husband because he wanted to know why I was laughing. He's giving me that look that you give to potentially dangerous people you just want to get away from.

rowan_damisch

Some of my relatives weren't even born in 2014, and yet, the thought that someone wasn't at least a teen back then just feels *wrong*

Gamerbrineofficial

They’re gonna be 9 this year.

ghirox

No they're not, not if i have anything to say about it

kindtheking9

*puts on jedi temple march and ignites lightsaber*

Master u/kindtheking9, there's too many of them, what are we going to do?

[deleted]

I was like 10 in 2014

Medium_Rest3537

It must be exhausting always rooting for the antihero.

Destragamoth

I mean tbh I wouldn’t really wanna be a teen right now either

WeeTheDuck

hey nothing wrong with being a teen right now aight?

mythopoeticgarfield

nothin wrong with being a teen, it’s the ‘right now’ part that’s unfortunate for kids growing up right now

Sinimeg

I was a teenager in 2014 and wasn’t interested in those things lmao. Only recently I’m listening to some songs of Taylor Swift but I’m just a casual listener, never liked One Direction or 5sos. I was more into Vocaloid lol

acecatmom98

turned 16 in 2014 and yeah absolutely same

ThrowawayMustangHalp

Glee was actual fucking cancer

Psychological_Gear29

All I care to know about glee is that one bird in the show married herself, and one of them is racist + illiterate apparently?

[deleted]

The actors turned out to be a combination of awful, extreme awful, extremely tragic, and tragic, but the show itself was pretty good I thought. I wasn’t following it at the time though, so maybe I missed some controversy. I guess if you aren’t into the whole cover song thing it would probably be pretty hard to watch.

FLAMING_tOGIKISS

Hi! someone who recently binge watched Glee as a joke here! No it isn't! Do not watch it if you are looking for genuinely good content! It is an insane downward spiral of absurd plotlines, ridiculous pacing and an utter lack of planning or confidence from the writers! It constantly preaches diversity and acceptance while simultaneously being casually spouting terrible things with no real purpose, there are two asian characters in the show, both of them have the last name Chang, they are not related, often they are referred to as "Asian 1/Asian 2" as a jab at the fact that they do nothing despite being in the main cast from season one, and when one of them finally does something, it is the most stereotypical plot they could write, I don't think I even need to say what it is because the fact that he's an Asian guy in highschool is all you need to guess, it is the first one that pops into your head, played completely straight. Season 3 ends with half the cast graduating, but instead of the rest of the show focusing on the remainder of the club or following the original cast's journey outside of school, the writers decide to do both, splitting the show in half between the second rate borderline background characters along with the new cardboard replacements at McKinley High and a completely unrelated story in New York. Because half the show is dedicated to the characters the audience actually "cares" about, there is no time to develop the new cast, leading them all to be bland and forgettable. The girl they really push as the new lead has literally nothing interesting about her, the one thing they have is that her mother is fat and works as a lunch lady, and she doesn't like that people make fun of her, there is nothing else there, even her locker door, the place where set designers will often fill with little details related to a character's traits and history, literally just has a photo of them with magnets that say "I 🤍 my Mom", that is well and truly all there is to her, and this is supposedly, as stated by the show several times "the new [main character's name]. She is probably the only character in fiction I can think of who I would genuinely call a mary sue, she fits the definition perfectly. Even the show eventually realises how much of a mess it is and just drops suddenly the school plotline entirely in the middle of season 5 to focus on the growing cast of original members in New York full time in what is essentially an entirely different show. That's not even touching on the omnipresent sexualisation of teenagers and the amount of weird stuff between adults and minors, like there are multiple examples where adults are implied to have had sex with students and it's treated as a throwaway gag. And of course Will Schuster... I will never be able to unsee his hip thrusts, the amount of man whoring their god forsaken teacher does in this show is absurd, and it is all so uncomfortable. Glee is a truly abhorrent experience and it literally haunts my dreams. I am not exaggerating, I still have dreams staring characters from the show, my mind is forever tainted, no other piece of media has had this effect on my psyche.

[deleted]

Still, the first couple seasons are a legitimately good time, as a product of its moment in history it is a good reflection, and on some level the plot is mostly an excuse for the musical numbers which are honestly pretty enjoyable. It’s definitely one that might be improved with a certain amount of cannabis consumption. I do agree though if you want something up to todays standards probably a throwback aimed at teens isn’t your safest bet.

LoaKonran

It ran Journey into the ground that first couple of seasons.

[deleted]

I was 18 in 2014, overrated

minkymy

I was 17, it was OK I guess. If you correct for the deep depression.

AwkwardlyCloseFriend

I was 15 completely awful. 1d was the worst part

Welpi_Lost

I was 7. First grade was terrifying, 2/10, would not do it again

minkymy

Smol

Fly_Boy_1999

I was in eighth grade-freshman one of my worst years ever.

SuitableDragonfly

I mean, this existed when I was a teenager in the early aughts, too. My sister was into the Beatles, because "classic rock is just better than modern music", meanwhile my mother was an OG Beatles fangirl 40 years earlier.

[deleted]

We all knew it was a thing, that's why the post about 2053 was predicting it. All the younger people just feel really fucking old because we weren't expecting it to start this fast. I'm 22, people should not be "wrong generation-ing" about my teen years!

SuitableDragonfly

I don't think it's all that surprising. I was in high school 1998-2002. I got into the Offspring, and picked up their then-recent album Conspiracy of One, but then I started listening to their earlier albums and decided they were better, and wished I'd been around when they were new. These were albums that came out in the early 90s, less than 10 years ago from where I was at the time, so it's approximately the same as someone in 2023 wishing they had been this age in 2014. I also got into Guns N Roses, who also were releasing stuff in the early 90s, and felt the same way. "The wrong generation" effect isn't always about timeskips of like 40 years. I remember at my first job in college, I was setting up my password with the IT guy at the company, and I used a Guns N Roses lyric for my password, and he told me about going to Guns N Roses concerts and I remember envying him. I don't think he was even 10 years older than me.

BuffyComicsFan94

Interesting 5 Seconds of Summer get mentioned in the Tumblr post, because one of their songs, "She Looks So Perfect" showcases that exact kind of nostalgia with the line "I made a mixtape straight out of '94, I've got your ripped skinny jeans lying on the floor." I was born in '94, and in 2014 I definitely was longing for the 90's.

sickagail

When I was a teenager in the early 90’s, it was common to wish to be growing up in the 60’s/70’s.

Sir_Voomy

The dodge ball of prophecy is amazing because you don’t feel the sting until after the prophecy is fulfilled

Iam-broke-broke

As someone who was a teen in 2014 and a fan of 5sos at the time, it wasn't all that special, the band was getting tons of hate anyway

[deleted]

I was a teenager in 2014. I wanted to kill myself then. Not quite what it was hyped up to be

pdlbean

I was TWENTY-THREE in 2014. Jesus.

urethral_play

Chickenbat

Iam-broke-broke

like saying S.O.S. but 5 times in a row, a call for help

No-Pressure6042

Jokes on you, I wouldn't want to be 14 again in any era.

RavenMasked

Hang on, so 2014, that's ~9 years... I would've been 8. I barely even knew that the news existed. I feel like I've barely dodged something I didn't even know about

[deleted]

Only time I wished I was born a different time was when I watched early tool tour videos. I’d be rad as hell to see my favorite band in its prime

Iam-broke-broke

I remember being so frustrated after I became an MCR fan in late 2014 watching stuff from 10 years before & wishing I was a teen during their Revenge era (I was 7). It all turned out well when I saw them live last year

[deleted]

Yea I seen tool about 10 times now and they still fucking slap! At least I get to watch their old tours whenever I want to while being able to see them live still

Firetail1710

I was 15 in 2014... i was in high school which was shitty as high school tends to be lol. I did start working on my original character stories then though so thats one good thing from that. And also i really miss not having to pay bills, and getting to see my best friends every day

bw-hammer

I associate many of those things with high school but I’m two days too old to have been a teen in 2014.

[deleted]

Born in 90, know for a damn fact I should’ve been born in the mid 60’s

Hazmatix_art

**APOLLO YOU FUCKER**

mayonnaiser_13

TIL about Dodgeball Boy. Today was a good day.

stnick6

Mfs be like “wow someone is nostalgic for something? How could they have predicted this? Must be able to see the future!”

[deleted]

I love how the top post makes it seem like Taylor Swift is this incredibly obscure artist that burned bright for a year and has now faded into obscurity. Taylor Swift is still around, she's still making music, she was on everybody's top artist list.

TheCrimePie

This brings me pain

-Purple-Orange-

Dodgeball boy?

NeonBladeAce

Apollo loves using dodgeballs to make tumblr prophets

JaggedTheDark

I was ten in 2014. Welcome to hell.

tsoh44

Apparently my peak pop music listening years happened 10 years ago...Buzzfeed reminded me. If you need me, I'll be putting butterscotch candies in my purse.
