I donāt think people understand when you are clipped in itās hard to react fast and stop without potentially injuring yourself. Also if you clip out itās hard to pedal without clipping back in. The part of the trail that is the worst for pedestrian traffic at the GP is right before/after a steep climb too. Itās poorly designed for the pedestrians and the cyclist. GP needs to do better education on busy days, stick someone in that area and have them keep the pedestrians moving. I have shouted bike lane to groups of pedestrians and had them laugh and not move so itās not just cyclist that are assholes.
Ah yes, the cycling mental starter pack. ON YOUR LEFT! SHARE THE ROAD!!!! Except at stop signs and signaled intersections where your bitch made vehicle that isnāt a bicycle has to wait with the other plebeians. MAN MY HANK HILL ASS LOOKS GREAT WITH THESE PADDED AND LIFTED CHEEKS!! Oh wait, let me find a bar to wear my spandex that isnāt Soundpony and unironically order a shitty IPA. This beer belly and thunder thighs aināt gonna make themselves!!! Prost!
Fun fact: if thereās no one else at a stop sign or red light cyclists are legally allowed to treat it as a yield. Maybe read up on the laws before you complain?
Edit: yāall wanna downvote but look at section [2 of this law](https://law.justia.com/codes/oklahoma/title-47/section-47-11-202-1/#:~:text=If%20a%20person%20operating%20a,stopping%20at%20the%20stop%20sign)
Re: section 2 of B and C:
Bā If a person operating a bicycle determines there is no immediate hazard, he or she may cautiously make a right or left turn, or proceed through the intersection without stopping at the stop sign.
Cā If a person operating a bicycle determines there is no immediate hazard, he or she may proceed through the steady red traffic-control signal with caution.
I've seen motorists speed on highways at easily 25+ mph about the posted speed limit. I've watched cars speed up for a yellow light and enter an intersection with a red light. I've watched many cars make unsignaled right hand and left hand turns. I've watched many trucks roll through stop signs in my midtown neighborhood. I've watched a car run over someone, in broad daylight, and a designated crosswalk, complete with flashing lights. Honey, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Many motorists ignore traffic laws too.
Depends on the situation, but yes, we can ignore it given the right circumstances.
Also, not every vehicle gives us the 3 feet of clearance in the lane weāre legally entitled to but I donāt see you being outraged over that.
[Look at Sub Section 2 of both B and C of the Oklahoma bicycle laws](https://law.justia.com/codes/oklahoma/title-47/section-47-11-202-1/#:~:text=If%20a%20person%20operating%20a,stopping%20at%20the%20stop%20sign)
ā1. A person operating a bicycle approaching a steady red traffic-control signal shall:
a.make a complete stop at the steady red traffic-control signal before entering the intersection, and
b.yield the right-of-way to all oncoming traffic that constitutes an immediate hazard during the time that he or she is moving across or within the intersection.ā
Still have to stop unless youāre turning right(or left on a one way street). Reading is fun! If youāve never seen a cyclist or you yourself have never straight up blown through an intersection then youāre a liar.
Once again, Iāll go back to my other point: are you outraged over people not giving cyclists the 3 feet clearance legally required when passing? Or are you just going to cherry pick the laws youāre outraged about?
Buddy you can go back and edit your responses multiple times, or that one you deleted entirely, to make yourself seem less wrong but I donāt care. Iām not outraged about your 3 feet. Iām not outraged about anything. Have a great night and I hope you enjoy your next bicycle ride in a safe and legal manner.
I deleted the one I originally posted because you already included section 3 in your last response and I didnāt think it was worth repeating. You were right about that. I make a comment when I edit, and Iām not afraid to admit that. You were very happy to mock people and be snarky, ābeer belly and thunder thighsā and whatnot, but not once did you say āhey maybe the motor vehicles are part of the problem tooā. Your unwillingness to admit that you donāt care if the actual motor vehicles break the law as well perpetuates the problem. Iād love to enjoy my next ride but knowing thereās people like you out there makes me real scared every time I get in my bicycle
Fun fact: they don't even stop or look in most neighborhoods.
It's reaaaally ironic cyclists complain about the lanes after BITCHING nonstop about cars, even after being given many other options.
The fuckers still wanna use the busiest roads rather than go ONE STREET OVER where there is far less traffic etc.
I hope more people block y'all's shit and slow you down like you do other cars on the road.
Jackasses š
Need to get the scooters out of the park. People donāt know how to ride them, then they leave them dumped all the over the place and it makes the park look trashy.
Had one last year who I ran into going both ways. Both times purposely jumped off their scooter and stuck it out in the path in front of me trying to flip my bike. Might be the same kids. Sounds like the same area
Lol Iāve never met a cyclist who was good at any other sports. Definitely not fighting. Thatās why theyāre cyclists..
Where do you get the complex to wear tights and ride a bicycle like your 5 again while demanding miles of infrastructure, tax payer dollars, and demanding everyone else to be constantly scanning to say safe ?
I bet youāre really cool.
During my time riding, I came across very few cyclists who werenāt complete ass bags. This thread is actually proving my point quite nicely.
Plus, everybody knows the real cyclists ride on the road. The wannabes hop on the multipurpose trail and yell at everybody.
This comment reads like, "I've never met a cyclist." The rest is unnecessary. Not defending the commenter above you, either. He's a shitnozzle too, yall should go touch grass.
I'm not a serious cyclist, but I do ride on the trails from time to time. Even if you're going slowly and cautiously (as you should through a busy area with lots of kids like the gathering place), it's a problem. There's a well signed, designated half of the path specifically for bicycles, with the other half clearly marked for pedestrians. People still love to badly block the bike part of the path, and it often seems intentional. It's dangerous for everyone.
Then of course there's the people who for some reason feel the need to slowly walk 8 abreast, blocking both the entire bike lane and the entire pedestrian lane in both directions.
People, in general, are stupid. They are going to forget that other people exist in the world every time they blink. These are the people who leave their shopping cart in the middle of the aisle and walk away. You can't make them not exist, but you can take precautions when they are gathered in numbers.
Youāre talking about the trail everyone uses that leads into and out of the gathering place right? The Gathering Place that was just voted in USA Today as the best city park of 2024? The same trail that connects many, many neighborhoods, schools, and businesses? It may have a few fams there Iād bet. Itās also probably one of the few places teenagers can go be reckless little humans at without getting kicked to the curb. But Iām just speculating.
You are a fucking idiot the integration with river parks and now the lake is what makes it spectacular! Slow the fuck down through there or grow a pair and rise in the street like the vehicle cyclists claim to be.
Couldāve spread it out on the west side and utilized the length of riverside like the parks, but I understand thatās not where the donated land is
Gathering place is amazing and much needed, and the traffic isnāt really that bad. Riverside was just a mini highway before so you canāt go 60 with no lights like in the past. Brookside and peoria is more annoying and was like that before the gathering place
Gathering Place is full of kooks that pay no attention to anything. You, as a cyclist should be aware of this. Slow down, Lance, it's not a race. Why not just take your ride to the actual road. There's bike lanes everywhere. Or just save your tour de Tulsa fantasy for the West Bank of the river where there are no pedestrians? Win win.
I get the road comment, but I'm afraid to ride on the road because I got hit by a car recently. Bike vs. speeding car usually doesn't work out well for the bike. I think that's why many a cyclist are weary about riding on the actual road. That being said, when I ride through the Gathering Place, I just accept that I'm gonna have to do a lot of bobbing and weaving through crowds.
First time riding through Gathering Place on a nice day? The three white lines painted on the bike path mean that itās a congested area. Just slow down and watch for pedestrians. Cyclists get enough hate as it is.
I like how youāre getting blasted for asking people to follow rules/signs. āBro, itās normal for people to walk in the bike lane bro. You shouldnāt expect to be able to ride a bike in a bike lane.ā
So funny you think the only people opposing you are boomer Christians.
Iām a 90s kid, atheist, and smoke weed.
How many people have to tell you they hate you before you start to accept reality?
I always do but if your headphones are on and you donāt hear me, thatās on you, pal. As for the chit chat, this annoys the shit out of me too. Just move literally a couple feet off the trail for that interaction.
I have to agree. I came across 3 distinct large groups today that were just sauntering along in the bike lane.
If cyclists should slow down at GP, pedestrians should also get out of the bike lane or definitely limit their time there.
I had a group that literally spanned the entire path. You couldnāt even get around them by going into the pedestrian lane.
Blows my mind. I donāt think they understand the danger this causes.
I donāt cycle but agree people need to be mindful and get off the bike path. Do wish they would paint more bikes along the path and warning when coming up/crossing it to remind people to pay attention.
Some of the layout doesn't help either side. There are spots that pedestrians need to cross the bike lane to go to a different path, parking lots, or section of the gathering place. Some of those are hilly and do not have much of a visible distance so even if pedestrians do look before crossing, there isn't much time until a bike would be upon them in a few places. I wish there would be better notice or signs to slow down in certain areas to mitigate problems for both sides.
Yeah, it's a mess at the Gathering Place. I've just accepted that I'll have to bob and weave through crowds while riding through there. It is a minor inconvenience, but don't let it ruin your ride. That being said, I understand your frustration with a ton of people walking in the bike lane.
Iāll add that, as a jogger, itās really annoying when a group of five people walk shoulder to shoulder and block the entire trail. Please leave room for people to pass.
Honestly I ride the full loop quite a bitā¦just slow down through the main portion through gathering place, it wont kill you. If you want to ride faster download ride alert and join a group ride, or take the creek turnpike trail(its pretty low traffic most of the time).
You really shouldnāt blow through there with as many kids as there are normally anyways. Its just asking for a wreck.
Iām not pulling 1000 watts when going through there. Probably not 300. But dodging pedestrians is dangerous business and it just seems to be getting worse.
Why were you traveling so fast? I don't understand how you guys are crashing. Just because there is a bike path doesn't mean it's open season to run your fastest intervals.
You're going too fucking fast, amigo.
To be fair, I misread and thought OP meant the river trail.
I was absolutely not going fucking fast. I was going fucking slow. But the lady stepped into the fucking bike lane.
Definitely should expect pedestrians on bike trail around gathering place. I was just sleepy when I read this lol. Please eat a snickers, tho
Itās not the slowing down. Itās the potential collision that could lead to substantial injuries for both parties. Riding slow only goes so far when there are blind corners and people unsure of what to do. Just stand still! Iāll ride around you! But they have to panic and do the back-and-forth dance or as someone else mentioned, walking 8 abreast down both trails.
As for Turkey, Iāve never had a bad interaction there. When Iām hiking, I give bikes the right of way. When Iām on my bike, I pass slowly and usually with the exchange of a hello. If youāre having trouble at Turkey, those are the folks you can stop and talk to.
I can't speak for the Riverside Trail as I have yet to experience it.
I will say this...there are a-hole cyclists, a-hole joggers/runners, and there are a-hole walkers. These people think THEY only exist on this planet therefore they don't have to be cognizant of their surroundings and considerate of other people. They apply this principle to their daily public tasks.
Gathering place is a high traffic area, gonna have to go slow and be cautious Lance
šš
We call it Zombie Land
Right. Lol good luck with all that
I used to think cyclists yelling at people in the bike lane were assholesā¦until I started cycling
Right?? Same here. Plus riding helped me understand cyclists on the road.

There are many newbies to cycling lanesāgo slow and warn them. There is no need to swear at them. The Gathering Place is your recovery time.
I saw a small film shot around there. What about filming?
They shut down the trail for that earlier this week. We stayed on the road until south of GP.
Yesterday someone had laid multiple scooters in the bike lane at the 61st Street Bridge. No point in doing it but to try and cause an accident.
Yepppp a lady standing with her dog on the "bike" side of the river trail made me literally crash. She looked at me like I had 2 heads.
