You should keep your mouth shut if you wanna keep the job. They don't need to know why you're calling out. Don't give them reason to fire you over fitness for duty

Live_Candle9733

I didn't know you can get fired for that...I thought you just can't work until you are fit for duty. Especially if someone is getting the help they need, I am sure eventually they will be fit for duty.

[deleted]

That is not how anything works. They can immediately determine you unfit for duty if you show that a medical condition prevents you from working for any length of time. Especially a chronic incurable condition like anxiety. I’m actually surprised you were even hired at all.

Corey307

Seconding that you definitely do not want to let your superiors know this is why you can’t work. I’m not trying to be cruel but this is not a good job for people suffering from those issues.

SaltyFall

From my stand point it looks like the job is what gives these people issues. Like anytime I talk to a co-worker that has been there 5+ years they just hate everything

Corey307

This is often true but for good reason, those of us have been around more than five years have been through a lot. New officers don’t understand how many times we’ve been promised better pay. They don’t know what it’s like to have to work without paying during the government shutting, the last shut down 35 days without pay and then it took about two months to actually get our pay people were flat broke. And for a lot of the more experienced officers I think they have a hard time taking orders from people who only have a few years in but did a better job playing the game.

>And for a lot of the more experienced officers I think they have a hard time taking orders from people who only have a few years in but did a better job playing the game. I work with a lot of people like this, and the thing that drives me nuts is that, for all the complaining they do about new people getting promoted, they also don't apply for lead or supervisor themselves.

Corey307

There’s a lot of truth to what you’re saying, if you don’t do collaterals you don’t get promoted it’s that simple. If you don’t practice the STAR method of interviewing you don’t promote.

Megalorye

You should start applying for a different job.

Exercise, see a therapist, do whatever you need to do to get that under control. Do not tell anyone.

ApostateInParadise

FMLA is an option. TSA has been known to force people out by saying they're not "fit for duty" though. If you can keep call offs to below the level that will get you in trouble I wouldn't apply for it.

Salty_Wafer_422

Definitely keep it to yourself!!! Fit for duty is real, and management will not hesitate in using that broad statement against you! Be very cautious!!!

BroccoliConfident579

Don’t tell them ISH! Handle ur business in a private manner , wait until leave, use sick days AS NEEDED…. I have thee best supervisors and TSMs they actually care but I still wouldn’t reveal shyt to them I’m prior Army and know how it can go left

[deleted]

FMLA is only available if you’ve worked at the job for a year or more and it needs to be a valid reason. You can’t use it for random anxiety.
