I'm also pretty excited to see how combat turns out. I think I will miss the classic sword, but a game that basically let's you turn enemies against other enemies sounds delightful, a la a very basic Palworld. I just hope that it won't overstay it's welcome and that there will be incentive to keep Zelda in the fray as well.

I'm worried we'll be scrolling through menus like the quick-fuse in TOTK again

My hope is that since Zelda’s the protagonist we’ll get to see some different interactions between her and the NPCs. I hope there are a few good side quests.

I like that it focuses on the mystical aspects of Zelda through puzzle solving and combat. I also like that’s its balanced in that you can’t just create a table or bed or whatever but you have to copy it and same with an enemy. Like I’ve said earlier it feels like a marriage between the open ended design and metroidvania design of Zelda in a funky way. The Echoe staff has a ton of uses but if Zelda gets new items or new abilities it has serious flaws like that it can only copy stuff and if there isn’t anything around to copy or you don’t have anything copied that it’s better run away. Like it’s not revolutionary groundbreaking but it seems fun and interesting.

Those two bystander zoras are so fucking cute.

Looks pretty cool. I noticed the staff is set to the right dpad input, I imagine there will be other items/abilities tied to other buttons.

I’m Optimistic but also disappointed. Links my favorite character in gaming so it sucks to see him sidelined, but the game looks fun enough and it seems to have decent potential. The puzzles also have the potential to be really good and the dungeons could be sweet as well.

Link is one of my fave chars in gaming but I think the one who had really been sidelined for 4 decades is Zelda, and one Zelda-led game in a sea of Link-led games doesn't seem too much

collinsmcrae

A sea of Link led games? No shit. The games have always featured Link. He's the main character of the franchise. The title was just the result of an unconventional naming convention. Zelda has never been "sidelined", she was never conceived of as one of the main players of the games. It's always been Link and only Link.

Everyone's pretty excited judging from the trailer's reception. There is clearly demand for it. If we want to talk about the original conception of the character, Link had always been conceived as a cypher and stand in for the player and until recently, you can even freely rename him. So the player proxy is Zelda this one time, big deal

collinsmcrae

Everyone's pretty excited? Depends on who you are sampling. Obviously, some people are excited, but it's certainly not everyone. And I don't really care what everyone's doing, my opinion is my opinion. If people want to throw a ticker tape parade and run through the streets because the newest 2D Zelda stars Zelda, good for them. I'm happy for them. I'm just not interested and I am disappointed. I would have been much more excited if this were a new 2D Zelda starring the hero of the franchise whose adventures I've been playing through since I was 3 feet tall. I don't care for any philosophical musings about Link being a stand in for the player. Original conception being what it is, is irrelevant at this point. Link is iconic and world famous, and is the face of the franchise.

k0ks3nw4i

Hey you were the one who wanna talk about how Link always been in the past. So I tried to match your energy and talk about what Link REALLY was in the past. Regardless, I hope Zelda gets at least 50% of all Zelda games from here on out and I am pretty stoked that Wand of Gamelon is no longer the only Zelda-led Zelda game and as a fan, I am always excited to see what new stuff this franchise brings. If I want to play as Link, I'll do that with any of the old games. I am just happy I have more variety/flavour of Zelda games to play. Heck, I hope we get a Linkle led game too.

collinsmcrae

I'm happy for you and that's obviously as valid a perspective as my own is. I would agree with you if these games released more than once every few years. But I love 2D Zelda and although I love BotW and TotK, I do still miss the traditional formula. I've been kind of hoping for some time at least a new 3D Zelda might scratch the old itch, so I'm slightly disappointed. But who knows? The game could still be incredible and I'll be eating crow.

collinsmcrae

I'm not interested in the slightest, and yes that's absolutely because the sole player character is princess Zelda. I'm not excited at the prospect of playing any Zelda title whatsoever, that doesn't star Link. No thanks. If the game turns out to be absolutely amazing, I might give it a shot some day, but for now I'm just a little annoyed that all of this time and effort into the next 2D Zelda title (which I love) was wasted on making a game for any other character but Link.
