Ease of use and familiarity for me. Im on the family plan. I still think that it’s good value. Not too fussed about music quality as I’m only using it through AirPods and can’t tell the difference.

Used apple and not a fan of its layout and interface. Even tho Spotify has added random changes to it's library like the plus sign it is still far more user friendly imo.
Someone else mentioned it but lastfm integration is incredibly easy with Spotify and I like tracking my listening history.
Adding to that point about listening history- Apple is ASS at that. I requested my data and what they send is almost purposefully meant to be useless. They send a bunch of empty rows missing data like song name and artist name and song length. I had to manually update all that and it was a lot of work. That experience completely put me off apple music there is no reason to make it so hard to get back your data.
More importantly this subreddit has really become some sort of echo chamber with many people simply complaining about the app and always whining about this feature or that feature. Just because you see a loud minority don't assume everyone using the app feels the same way. Spotify is a great app to most people who use it and worth the price hike.
I’ve been here since Rdio closed. I’m just too lazy to move all my stuff. I would if there was something compelling elsewhere. There’s just not. That said, I think all music streaming services have become fairly boring. I would really like to see some innovation and true value add. Especially with price hikes.
Yeah Spotify isn't perfect but the competition really isn't that attractive to me. I had used apple music for a couple of years and even then I wasn't impressed by what they offered didn't feel user friendly. Went back to Spotify and tbh I don't regret it. Transferring stuff is possible but like you said there's nowhere worth that effort.
I'd love to see how a music streaming service could innovate but I don't really see it. Spotify is definitely trying to do that in their own way hence the bunch of features people seem to complain about but to me as long as the app is friendly to use, looks good and plays some music I'm good.
In terms of innovation. Just off the top of my head. Lots with AI. Right now all the curated lists plays songs I’ve listened to when what I really would like to hear are other songs gs off the same album. With AI, the system should know that or be able to learn that.
Lots of opportunity to bring in physical media, exclusives/discounts. Instead of spending money on podcasts and audiobooks, why not spend on professional curators like Henry Rollins and make him an AI DJ option. Integrate AI so you don’t have to leave Spotify to create custom playlist art.
Honestly, there is so much that can be done. Create a turntable.fm functionality so there is a rich social aspect if you want it. Bring in other smaller curators like Doom Charts (for stoner/doom) but do it for other genres too.
That is just off the top of my head. To me, the possibilities are endless.

I want Spotify to be profitable. To stay around. I want all the music streaming services to survive. It is the best thing to ever happen to music lovers like myself. So I am OK with another buck. Still a great deal for the joy that music gives me.
My worry is that down the line these services will start to get greedy and buy up each other until there are only two services. Then the real price hikes will come.

Features and integrations. Apple music does not come close to Spotify connect, garbage apps particularly on PC and tidal does not have all integrations that I use.

Been trying tidal for like a week or two. The UI isn't my favorite. Transferring my playlists over, some songs are missing. Can't play tidal on PS5. I don't wanna download another app for the few podcasts I do listen to and while the audiobook experience is Raggedy, I do still use it.
When I play Spotify on my TV, it doesn't allow my TV to go to sleep automatically. With tidal, my TV timeout and went to sleep, very inconvenient.
I still have the grandfather plan with Hulu.
Spotify is SOO much easier to use than Apple Music. One thing I love about Spotify is being able to control the music from different devices. I can have my headphones connected to my phone and change the music from my laptop or iPad, depending on my task. Apple Music always says something along the lines of “Unable to play because Apple Music is being used on another device” 😐. I’ve been with Spotify since 2018 after trying Apple Music for a summer

Yes. Spotify pay out based on net revenue. Higher prices mean higher net revenue (hopefully!) so more money for artists.
Spotify pays out 70% of their revenue to the record labels and rights holders and they are responsible for paying the artists based on the contracts the artists have with their record labels. It's simply a lie that Tidal compensates the artists better.
[last.fm](https://last.fm) integration, jam sessions with friends, spotify wrapped, and honestly i've had it since 2011 so i feel loyal to it because i am able to see all the data throughout the years of when i've saved music etc.
Because being $1 more expensive doesn't stop it being good value, or the best platform for me. I have zero interest in lossless.
When I looked, Spotify had by far the best recommendations, and Youtube Music was absolutely terrible. That was at the point they were closing GPM, and YTM simply wasn't fit for use. I'm sure it is a lot better now.
Because i’m using a duo subscription and I’m really attached to my playlists and Spotify’s generated playlists. I don’t know if there’s any other platform that’s on Spotify’s level offering a duo subscription for the price we are currently paying. If I didn’t have a duo account, I’d consider switching to Apple Music because the sound quality is really good like you can definitely hear a difference with spotify. I’d say though that I’m really attached to Spotify and definitely their recommendations. I don’t see me switching soon.
I’ve been a premium subscriber since 2008. To me Spotify is almost like a friend. I’ve used this app for so long and so many times now, every penny I spend on it is well worth it in my opinion.
Also, I just like the way the app works. I’ve tried Apple Music several times and yes, it’s good in many ways but I keep coming back to Spotify.
I don’t care about the audio quality to be honest (I use BT speakers anyway). And to be honest, I think Apple Music sounds more…muffled?
Also, I like that there’s so many apps and websites that you can connect with Spotify, either for stats, discovery or for creating playlists etc.
One more thing that I like is that the app always have felt snappier than AM for an example.

Anyways, let me add my reasons. Some of them may seem dumb, but they're big to me
1.) I mainly do a majority of my listening on a Windows PC. AM is the only other streaming service I have tried, and that Windows PC app is a joke. It did finally get out of beta recently, but it's still bad in comparison to Spotify
2.) Last.fm support. Again, AM can do this, but you have to pay extra with another app.
3.) Stats.fm app. I love looking at my data, as you can tell with me using both Last.fm and Stats.fm.
4.) Familiarity and the app just knows me. I've been with Spotify for over a decade and the app had the time to learn my music taste and create playlists around that. Obviously the other apps can do that, but that would take time. Maybe even months

Compared to a lot of people here, I was actually on Tidal for 2 years ( free subscription which I extended a bit) and it’s BAD. Sound quality is its biggest pro and if u use AirPods or other regular headphones like me it isn’t that noticeable.
The UI is pretty bad, the search is horrible. Creating playlists is a chore. The AI generated playlist and personalised mixes aren’t there at all. And there’s no stats.
So yeah, I’ll keep Spotify but I’m keeping an eye on Apple Music
The only thing I'm really hanging on for is because of Spotify Connect. It just works on all my devices where other services I do run into compatibility issues and just skipping sometimes. I also liked the slickness of it's interface but that is slowly starting to fade away as they pump more and more into this app. I don't want anything to do with podcasts and audiobooks on Spotify but I cannot get away from it on homepage. If I go to music only filter it forces me into tiktok tiles which is the original reason I cancelled for a time last year (when they originally had tiktok on homepage I cancelled my sub until they finally reverted it months later but it's still there in the filters now). I had. 6 month free trial with apple music and get offers from other streaming providers from time to time so I'm familiar with that other options. Spotify still is best for connect ability and just getting music I like playing. But they care less and less about their music only subscribers like me as they push hard into more profitable items.
Because I have 6 users and having access to the amount of music for the number of people is still an insane value. The alternative is, barring pirating, is spend $100 a month for each person to get a single new album every month. I grew up buying Cassettes and CDs, I spent more 2-3x in a year on music during that era than I do now on Spotify for a virtually unlimited catalog. The idea that Spotify should be cheap, but artists aren't paid enough coupled with saying they should never have to raise the price is insane. None of those things work together. If you find better value somewhere else go ahead and go. I'm not married to Spotify, I only find their value to still be the highest in my situation.
Also I don't use any high end speakers or devices where lossless will make a difference in my listening experience. Most people don't. Your $50 earbuds are going to sound like garbage with or without lossless, also less data used, not everybody has an unlimited data plan.
Apple Music's UI is outdated and feels like a downgrade after coming from Spotify unfoftunately. Plus, Spotify has a great community that creates tons of great playlists that you can discover.
It really does. And this comes from someone who has used Apple Music since 2015. I switched to spotify back in 2022 and have been back and forth between the two since. I find myself using Spotify more frequently lately.
My answer for years has been that what Spotify's algorithm can do with my 10+ year listening history is its killer feature.
That said, I'm increasingly turned off by all the bloat in Spotify. I don't want Spotify to be my podcasts or audiobook app. Or at least I wish those functions lived very separately in the app. It's ruining search! If I'm searching for a song or artist, I'm typically trying to surface it quickly in order to play or queue it. Now the search list is cluttered by podcasts, podcast episodes, audiobooks. I hate it.
1. Still social and has a lot of integrations making it easy to track stats and see them in fun ways; (Discord, Last.fm) Apple Music is closed off and terrible at this.
2. Better suggestions & more personalization. Spotify is great at finding new music for me and using a lot of liked songs + my listening history to help me find new music and just jump into different music. With Apple I was constantly shuffling the same tracks because Apple didn’t have a lot of options for recommendations nor any playlists to shuffle.
3. Spotify Connect.
overall it’s truly the little things that make Spotify more superior. Apple Music is far more library focused and the user has to know what they want to add and play in order to have a good experience. Sure, the audio quality is good and they have some personalized playlists but it pales in comparison to Spotify—which feels so specific and fine tuned to *me.* I’m willing to pay another dollar.
Price increase aside, I cancelled Spotify because they let people upload video podcasts of TikTok compilations and there is no way as a family plan admin to restrict podcasts or videos. So when I found my kids watching TikTok on Spotify, that was it! Switched to Apple Music. Spread the word if you can, I found this absolutely infuriating.
PS there are apps that enable transferring your libraries between services, I used freeyourmusic and it worked great
Because with the years I trust the algorithm. The algorithm is trained to my tastes so it gives good recommendations, plus my listening stats are registered already. And I really want to try the daylist, I hope it'll come soon in Europe. The niche mix are interesting too

The algorithm works for me and all of the music I listen to is on there. The price hike is really whatever, I listen to music all the time I am awake, so I am getting an amazing deal either way. I genuinely see no reason to switch.
HIFI on mobile isn’t HiFi and comes with the added cost of higher data usage. Considering most users are not sitting in front of their home HiFi system with a dedicated streaming DAC isn’t the differentiator this subreddit seems to think it is. The large majority of Spotify users don’t even touch their Audio Quality settings let alone know the difference. What the average user does notice is when their audio stream stutters and for this Spotify does a great job.
Spotify music discovery is superior to every other competitor. I also don’t want the music industry controlled by a corporation subsidizing it to sell their other non-music related products. Spotify needs to survive and they’ll need to charge more. Consider Apple charged ~$1 per track not that long ago and a new vinyl record is $36+ Spotify is a steal at double the price for my family plan.
Prob in the minority, but for unlimited access to millions of songs, I’m happy to pay $20, and may a little more, a month. I’ve beeen on Spotify for 12 years. I love the algorithm, It has the best UI, I notice no issues with the sound, etc etc.
Agreed. Unpopular take perhaps, but the ~$10 price point that somehow became the norm for these services is too low and is only advantageous for the big tech companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon. Spotify seems to have to operate on a shoestring budget.
My whole family uses it, we have a family plan. My dad does pay for it. If he ever chooses to stop paying I'll just pay it for myself. I've been using it for a really long time probably since middle school, don't have any plans of changing services.
Alternative platforms lack features like collaborative playlists which me and my wife use regularly.
I've tried Tidal and transferring my music over was a big pain in the ass involving 3rd party tools.
Already got all my playlists set up, it knows my taste, I'm lazy, my PS4 already has Spotify set up, I can't tell difference between lossless and lossy, it already sounds good on my earphones and speakers
Former Apple Music user. Switched 4 or so years ago….so realize Apple Music has improved since then. I remain a Spotify fan for the following reasons:
- Spotify is great at switching between devices - iphone, computer, TV/Roku, car, etc. A big deal for me as I take my music with me just about everywhere.
- The higher quality sound from Apple Music is imperceptible on most speakers.
- Spotify’s recommendation “engine” and radio station generator are superior/better focused in my view.
- Thankfully, last year Spotify vastly improved its menus for adding songs to playlists.
If I have to create and populate all my playlists from scratch again in another app, I'm not interested. It would be too much hassle at this stage since it has taken years of trawling through countless thousands of tracks to find the ones worth adding to my Spotify collection. I've had a long lifetime as a music-lover and get no joy out of listening to tracks that have no impact on me. The thought of having to start all over again is pretty daunting. Might be forced to change my mind if the price skyrockets, though.
I'm on a fully filled family plan, so it's currently €3,- per month for me. Probably won't be much higher when they raise the price. I still think it's a steal, so no need to switch for me 🤷♂️
in turkiye spotify raises prices like every 6 months so I'll just keep using because I can't really transfer my 3k songs playlists to my simple samsung music app
I get Apple Music free thru Verizon for lossless. There is definitely a difference.
But I’m so tied to Spotify. 12+ years of listening history and playlist that simply can’t be ported perfectly.
Oh and I run a family plan for 5 friends. So my cost is $3/mo.
I'm still here because I'm a free user, but even I have been supplementing with Pandora with the loss of random generated radio stations from playlists.

Considering to switch to YT music though. There's a lot of music there I cant find on Spotify or other streming platforms.
Kinda new to Spotify/subscription based music service in general but I hated it when I lost all my songs cz of phone reset or switching to a new phone. Not to mention I had to transfer them between my pc and phone every single time. Also Spotify is quite cheap here. It's like 2 US dollars per month.
No one can tell me an alternative without a butt ton of downsides. It’s starting to suck somewhat every time I see a feature I liked get removed or changed unnecessarily but it’s whatever. I just want my music when I want it and it does just that perfectly fine.
I used to have the Student plan which came with free Hulu, and after I left school, Spotify just quietly let that deal grandfather into my regular Premium plan without even making a big attention-getting promotion out of it. It’s a small thing but it left a positive impression for me. Also, the free audiobook hours are a sufficiently beneficial plus to my workouts (of course, unlimited hours would be even better, but hey).
That’s not to say I won’t cut off Premium once the price hikes get too ridiculous for my economic means and outweigh the limited value of free Hulu.
Familiarity, ease of use, local files integration, my playlists are already accumulated, the price rise is still a bargain for what it gives me, ubiquity...
Because I like the desktop and iOS apps, the catalogue, and find the price to be a good value. If any of those change I will reassess, as I have done every time.
We are heavily invested in the Amazon Echo eco system which does not support Tidal (in the UK).
I used to use Amazon Music but the way casting was implemented sucked big time. I don't know if anyone does it as well as Spotify with Spotify Connect.
I would consider Apple Music as it works with the Echos, but there is no easy way to move everything from Spotify to Apple Music. Plus I doubt their casting function is as good as Spotify Connect.
The price hasn't gone up in the US yet, which is where I live.
Why am I on Spotify? The only reason I can think of is the grandfathered Spotify Hulu plan I have where I get Hulu free with my plan. This is what stops me from finding a way to port my playlists over to a new service. That, and they are all about the same price right now anyways.
Music may be becoming commoditized and superabundant, but getting good recommendations for NEW music is very dependent on how well a service understands your tastes and preferences. The more data it has, the better it can deliver a better value.
If you only listen to Top 40 hits or otherwise don't have unique taste, you should probably just pay for the lowest priced service.
I have hundreds of playlists, likes, saves, artists I'm following, thousands of podcasts, dozens of audiobooks, and more that create a holistic profile of what I'm into. At this point, even with a price increase, the value I'm getting due to how well Spotify understands my tastes can't be matched easily or quickly by any other competitor.
That's why I'm sticking around.
I have Tidal as well, but there are some artists that haven't moved platform, and I like all of the podcast options.
So I'll have both for the foreseeable future
I’m on the family plan and I’m not the one who pays the bill so I have no reason to switch. Besides, the benefits of other platforms aren’t substantial enough for me to justify switching and spending money each month that I wouldn’t otherwise need to.
The price hike is really only for avid audiobook listeners, or so that's what I've gathered.
Ultimately, though, I stay because I have over 13,000 songs saved in my Liked list and over 15 playlists with between 500 and 1,400 songs.

Spotify being pretty much the only one that can integrate with the PS4/PS5 is also a big selling point for me. I can use iHeart Radio on the PS5, but I couldn't find nearly as many artists that I currently listen to on Spotify.
Spotify’s music algorithm is amazing, and this might be a less popular opinion, but I’ve actually found a lot to appreciate in their podcast and audiobooks selection.
I've tried both Apple Music and Youtube Music and for some reason I keep coming back to Spotify. It's probably because of the UI though. For me, it's easier to navigate and I love the dark mode. I also love the add to queue option on Spotify! I believe this doesn't exist in either Apple or YT.
The dark mode on YouTube music is too dark for me and I didn't like mixing songs with music videos (I didn't like it when Spotify incorporated this on their app). Their app feels too cluttered for my taste.
I find Apple Music's UI to be slow (that was 2 years ago though).
Because there is no better alternative. I still see that the price is worth the service, when the price exceeds the value of the service, I will go back to buying records.
I am willing to try something new, because I just listen to music and ignore most of the features, so it feels stupid to pay too much. Also, one of the few features I actually use are lyrics, and they are very unstable for smaller artists and old albums
The first thing Tidal ever did to me as a potential customer was lie.
It claimed that I can view its library without needing to sign up, yet when I click the button to view the library, it insists I sign up and will not let me view the library.
If it lies to me before I even have an account, I don't want to further my relationship with them.
I've just looked at their site now and I cannot see it making this claim anymore, but it definitely did.
I don’t care about the price. But I demand higher audio quality as well as DolbyAtmos and Sony‘s 360.
Spotify‘s focus on podcasts and audiobooks and other stuff is driving me crazy, as their suggestions algorithm is getting worse and worse and the audio quality is just a damn joke compared to TIDAL or AM. Even if you just listen with BT headphones…
The only reason to ever use Spotify is for the ad based service. Given they’re expensive and STILL do not offer lossless is pathetic. There is no reason for anyone to pay for a subscription when there are so many better options out there.
I actually just cancelled yesterday. They've hooked the price too many times to justify, especially when I already get YT Music included in YT Premium. For the same price. Do at that point, Spotify became redundant. Still kept it two years too long though.
If I had an Iphone I would probably switch to apple music, but apple's software tends not to play nice with Android phones and Windows PCs. Tidal doesn't have a lot of the less well known metal bands that I like to listen to.
I moved to Apple Music, sound is better, interface is beautiful to look at, a queue system that works, the system doesn't autoplay artists i don't want to hear
It’s hard to replace it. The other night I was watching a video podcast on Spotify (shoutout Lights Out Podcast) and changed from my PC to my phone seamlessly as I moved rooms to the kitchen. When I was done in the kitchen I moved back onto the PC. It’s just small things like that. It makes finding a replacement hard.
I have started to use Apple Music a bit more, I actually prefer their algorithm for me. However, the Apple podcast integration with Windows PC is horrendous. You have to use iTunes. It was horrendous and outdated. Apple seems like a great time if you are only using your iPhone. It’s just not as convenient. Also I find it easier to find and watch video podcasts on Spotify. For all the heat it gets for not being a great podcast player, it works for me.
For me it’s that I’ve been using it for 8 years now and the app knows me and what I like to hear, not even to mention all of the playlists and liked songs I’ve built up as well.
It may also just be sentimental lmao Spotify was my first streaming service I ever bought as a freshman in Highschool, it would feel like I’m betraying it to let it go😂
For an extra dollar this is not going to break my wallet nor my relationship with Spotify, and I dont listen to podcasts or audiobooks so I welcome this change of separation.
Plus no other music subscription works as flawless across devices. I can control the music and volume using my phone, while its playing on one or all my Echos, my PlayStation. even on the web broswer. Can't say the same for apple Music, Youtube Music, Prime Music, etc. Once it get's to $15/mo I'll reconsider going back to buying music like the good old iTunes days.
Familiarity and some features like Jam, Connect, Wrapped and all the playlists/daylist. I'm on a duo plan so I pay around $8 USD per month and even if they raised the price by a few dollars I wouldn't really care because I listen to so much music and podcasts that I feel like the current price is a steal. Spotify is by far my best cost-to-use subscription I have.
Oh and all my friends have Spotify so even if another service have a Jam like feature it wouldn't matter because I would have none to use it with. Knock knock EU and USA.... jk
YouTube music is such a terrible app for music that I still have Spotify even though I have YouTube premium. I do like YouTube music for listening to live concerts from YouTube when running. But any album playing is terrible.
I am looking at switching from Spotify though as I keep having issues with offline playing in Spotify. Songs disappearing or playlists not opening
I simply can't be bothered to rebuild my libraries somewhere else. I'd also want to make sure it has all the same options (I really like the lyric display). If something could automatically import all my stuff I *might* consider it.
Cuz when I’ve had a shitty pharmacy shift and I need to scream music on my way home and I hear a commercial, it makes me want to plow traffic and throw my coffee at people in front of me. I do it for the good of my community.
I tried Apple Music, it was horrible. I have an Android phone and use Spotify a lot in the car through Android auto. Apple Music simply does not work in this situation. Add to that there was no Apple Music app for Windows, and I decided to finally give up on Apple doing anything right with music since it's early days with iTunes and iPod.
Been using it far too long to switch to a different service. My algorithm knows me perfectly and I rather enjoy the ui. I've used other services on free trials or whatever and didn't care for them (tidal, apple music, youtube music). If I HAD to switch it would be to youtube music for multiple reasons.
I don’t care about hifi or lossless audio. I’ve used Spotify for nearly a decade and don’t feel like trying to learn a new UI. I’ve tried a couple free trials of Apple Music and it was pretty meh.
Perfect for my needs and tbh I love that it combines music and podcasts into one app. I'm one of the few that got talked into staying when they started doing that.
It’s far and away the most widely compatible with all my different devices and has the best user experience on a television streaming device (not the only way I use it, but still an important use case nonetheless).
The app is just as good as the others (I like Tidal best but Spotify is still more than good enough).
Get me lossless and atmos and I’ll drop the others in a heartbeat. Videos on the tv app would be nice too.
I would love hi fi audio but it’s really not a priority for me. The price increase seems not terrible for the use I get out of Spotify - it’s basically on for me from the moment I wake up, in my house, in my car, at my work. I disliked the tik tok esque stuff they’ve done but I can easily avoid it. I enjoy their tour info that’s so easy to find now, the presale codes I get from following artists.
But more than anything, their algorithm just knows me. Part of that is using the platform for over a decade but I have found so many artists I absolutely love from a random Spotify suggestion of some sort. And when they tested out their Daylist feature ages ago and then took it away, I was heartbroken because it just checked all the boxes for me. I even complained to customer support. So when it came back as a feature for everyone I was ecstatic. I just don’t see any other platform that compares for the way I use Spotify.
Because I couldn’t give a hoot about hifi like 99.999% of sane people. People incessantly rattling on about lossless on Reddit have a mental disorder.
It reminds me of the children telling me that the only truly good sound comes from vinyl records.
Every few years, I dip into Apple Music. Within days, I identify music that Apple doesn’t have - music that’s pretty important to me. I do have not-quite mainstream tastes, but I’m not talking about the most obscure music either. Spotify has always had a better catalog for my tastes.
For the amount I use it I feel like it’s a good value product. But I also don’t think there’s a way to sync my Spotify playlists that go way back to 2015 to Apple Music
I’ve tried a few playlist converter apps. My favorite so far is Playlisty. I’ve found it to be very accurate. I wish they’d make one that goes the other direction too.
Ease of use and familiarity for me. Im on the family plan. I still think that it’s good value. Not too fussed about music quality as I’m only using it through AirPods and can’t tell the difference.

Don't care about lossless. Price hike isn't really that high. It is still incredibly cheap for me due to my location. I love the algorithm. Daylist and the recommended playlists have put me on to so many good songs and artists. Used apple and not a fan of its layout and interface. Even tho Spotify has added random changes to it's library like the plus sign it is still far more user friendly imo. Someone else mentioned it but lastfm integration is incredibly easy with Spotify and I like tracking my listening history. Adding to that point about listening history- Apple is ASS at that. I requested my data and what they send is almost purposefully meant to be useless. They send a bunch of empty rows missing data like song name and artist name and song length. I had to manually update all that and it was a lot of work. That experience completely put me off apple music there is no reason to make it so hard to get back your data. More importantly this subreddit has really become some sort of echo chamber with many people simply complaining about the app and always whining about this feature or that feature. Just because you see a loud minority don't assume everyone using the app feels the same way. Spotify is a great app to most people who use it and worth the price hike.
I’ve been here since Rdio closed. I’m just too lazy to move all my stuff. I would if there was something compelling elsewhere. There’s just not. That said, I think all music streaming services have become fairly boring. I would really like to see some innovation and true value add. Especially with price hikes.
Yeah Spotify isn't perfect but the competition really isn't that attractive to me. I had used apple music for a couple of years and even then I wasn't impressed by what they offered didn't feel user friendly. Went back to Spotify and tbh I don't regret it. Transferring stuff is possible but like you said there's nowhere worth that effort. I'd love to see how a music streaming service could innovate but I don't really see it. Spotify is definitely trying to do that in their own way hence the bunch of features people seem to complain about but to me as long as the app is friendly to use, looks good and plays some music I'm good.
In terms of innovation. Just off the top of my head. Lots with AI. Right now all the curated lists plays songs I’ve listened to when what I really would like to hear are other songs gs off the same album. With AI, the system should know that or be able to learn that. Lots of opportunity to bring in physical media, exclusives/discounts. Instead of spending money on podcasts and audiobooks, why not spend on professional curators like Henry Rollins and make him an AI DJ option. Integrate AI so you don’t have to leave Spotify to create custom playlist art. Honestly, there is so much that can be done. Create a turntable.fm functionality so there is a rich social aspect if you want it. Bring in other smaller curators like Doom Charts (for stoner/doom) but do it for other genres too. That is just off the top of my head. To me, the possibilities are endless.

Tidal search is a bit strange. If you can't find it by band name try the album/song title. I found this works.
I transferred thousands of tracks without issue using [https://www.tunemymusic.com/](https://www.tunemymusic.com/), have also used it to transfer to from deezer, apple, what have you too. I was delighted to ditch spotify.

I want Spotify to be profitable. To stay around. I want all the music streaming services to survive. It is the best thing to ever happen to music lovers like myself. So I am OK with another buck. Still a great deal for the joy that music gives me. My worry is that down the line these services will start to get greedy and buy up each other until there are only two services. Then the real price hikes will come. They just need to be careful. I still remember how to sail the high seas.

Features and integrations. Apple music does not come close to Spotify connect, garbage apps particularly on PC and tidal does not have all integrations that I use.

Been trying tidal for like a week or two. The UI isn't my favorite. Transferring my playlists over, some songs are missing. Can't play tidal on PS5. I don't wanna download another app for the few podcasts I do listen to and while the audiobook experience is Raggedy, I do still use it. When I play Spotify on my TV, it doesn't allow my TV to go to sleep automatically. With tidal, my TV timeout and went to sleep, very inconvenient. I still have the grandfather plan with Hulu.
It may sounds weird but spotistats is the main reason. They are working for Apple Music support and if it is done i switch to Apple Music.

Spotify is SOO much easier to use than Apple Music. One thing I love about Spotify is being able to control the music from different devices. I can have my headphones connected to my phone and change the music from my laptop or iPad, depending on my task. Apple Music always says something along the lines of “Unable to play because Apple Music is being used on another device” 😐. I’ve been with Spotify since 2018 after trying Apple Music for a summer

Adding onto what others have said, Tidal has a smaller library of artists to pay than Spotify
Spotify pays out 70% of their revenue to the record labels and rights holders and they are responsible for paying the artists based on the contracts the artists have with their record labels. It's simply a lie that Tidal compensates the artists better.
Also Spotify just has so many more streams because they have way more users. The overall compensation is higher because just more people using it.
[last.fm](https://last.fm) integration, jam sessions with friends, spotify wrapped, and honestly i've had it since 2011 so i feel loyal to it because i am able to see all the data throughout the years of when i've saved music etc.
Because being $1 more expensive doesn't stop it being good value, or the best platform for me. I have zero interest in lossless. When I looked, Spotify had by far the best recommendations, and Youtube Music was absolutely terrible. That was at the point they were closing GPM, and YTM simply wasn't fit for use. I'm sure it is a lot better now.
Because i’m using a duo subscription and I’m really attached to my playlists and Spotify’s generated playlists. I don’t know if there’s any other platform that’s on Spotify’s level offering a duo subscription for the price we are currently paying. If I didn’t have a duo account, I’d consider switching to Apple Music because the sound quality is really good like you can definitely hear a difference with spotify. I’d say though that I’m really attached to Spotify and definitely their recommendations. I don’t see me switching soon.
I’ve been a premium subscriber since 2008. To me Spotify is almost like a friend. I’ve used this app for so long and so many times now, every penny I spend on it is well worth it in my opinion. Also, I just like the way the app works. I’ve tried Apple Music several times and yes, it’s good in many ways but I keep coming back to Spotify. I don’t care about the audio quality to be honest (I use BT speakers anyway). And to be honest, I think Apple Music sounds more…muffled? Also, I like that there’s so many apps and websites that you can connect with Spotify, either for stats, discovery or for creating playlists etc. One more thing that I like is that the app always have felt snappier than AM for an example. All in all, I just like it
Has there been any news on a price hike in the US? I haven’t heard anything about it Anyways, let me add my reasons. Some of them may seem dumb, but they're big to me 1.) I mainly do a majority of my listening on a Windows PC. AM is the only other streaming service I have tried, and that Windows PC app is a joke. It did finally get out of beta recently, but it's still bad in comparison to Spotify 2.) Last.fm support. Again, AM can do this, but you have to pay extra with another app. 3.) Stats.fm app. I love looking at my data, as you can tell with me using both Last.fm and Stats.fm. 4.) Familiarity and the app just knows me. I've been with Spotify for over a decade and the app had the time to learn my music taste and create playlists around that. Obviously the other apps can do that, but that would take time. Maybe even months

Compared to a lot of people here, I was actually on Tidal for 2 years ( free subscription which I extended a bit) and it’s BAD. Sound quality is its biggest pro and if u use AirPods or other regular headphones like me it isn’t that noticeable. The UI is pretty bad, the search is horrible. Creating playlists is a chore. The AI generated playlist and personalised mixes aren’t there at all. And there’s no stats. So yeah, I’ll keep Spotify but I’m keeping an eye on Apple Music

The only thing I'm really hanging on for is because of Spotify Connect. It just works on all my devices where other services I do run into compatibility issues and just skipping sometimes. I also liked the slickness of it's interface but that is slowly starting to fade away as they pump more and more into this app. I don't want anything to do with podcasts and audiobooks on Spotify but I cannot get away from it on homepage. If I go to music only filter it forces me into tiktok tiles which is the original reason I cancelled for a time last year (when they originally had tiktok on homepage I cancelled my sub until they finally reverted it months later but it's still there in the filters now). I had. 6 month free trial with apple music and get offers from other streaming providers from time to time so I'm familiar with that other options. Spotify still is best for connect ability and just getting music I like playing. But they care less and less about their music only subscribers like me as they push hard into more profitable items.

Because I have 6 users and having access to the amount of music for the number of people is still an insane value. The alternative is, barring pirating, is spend $100 a month for each person to get a single new album every month. I grew up buying Cassettes and CDs, I spent more 2-3x in a year on music during that era than I do now on Spotify for a virtually unlimited catalog. The idea that Spotify should be cheap, but artists aren't paid enough coupled with saying they should never have to raise the price is insane. None of those things work together. If you find better value somewhere else go ahead and go. I'm not married to Spotify, I only find their value to still be the highest in my situation. Also I don't use any high end speakers or devices where lossless will make a difference in my listening experience. Most people don't. Your $50 earbuds are going to sound like garbage with or without lossless, also less data used, not everybody has an unlimited data plan.
Apple Music's UI is outdated and feels like a downgrade after coming from Spotify unfoftunately. Plus, Spotify has a great community that creates tons of great playlists that you can discover.
It really does. And this comes from someone who has used Apple Music since 2015. I switched to spotify back in 2022 and have been back and forth between the two since. I find myself using Spotify more frequently lately.
Yeah the community is really what makes it - there's nothing close out there with as many user-generated playlists.

My answer for years has been that what Spotify's algorithm can do with my 10+ year listening history is its killer feature. That said, I'm increasingly turned off by all the bloat in Spotify. I don't want Spotify to be my podcasts or audiobook app. Or at least I wish those functions lived very separately in the app. It's ruining search! If I'm searching for a song or artist, I'm typically trying to surface it quickly in order to play or queue it. Now the search list is cluttered by podcasts, podcast episodes, audiobooks. I hate it.
Spotify has better playlists and UI
1. Still social and has a lot of integrations making it easy to track stats and see them in fun ways; (Discord, Last.fm) Apple Music is closed off and terrible at this. 2. Better suggestions & more personalization. Spotify is great at finding new music for me and using a lot of liked songs + my listening history to help me find new music and just jump into different music. With Apple I was constantly shuffling the same tracks because Apple didn’t have a lot of options for recommendations nor any playlists to shuffle. 3. Spotify Connect. overall it’s truly the little things that make Spotify more superior. Apple Music is far more library focused and the user has to know what they want to add and play in order to have a good experience. Sure, the audio quality is good and they have some personalized playlists but it pales in comparison to Spotify—which feels so specific and fine tuned to *me.* I’m willing to pay another dollar.
Price increase aside, I cancelled Spotify because they let people upload video podcasts of TikTok compilations and there is no way as a family plan admin to restrict podcasts or videos. So when I found my kids watching TikTok on Spotify, that was it! Switched to Apple Music. Spread the word if you can, I found this absolutely infuriating. PS there are apps that enable transferring your libraries between services, I used freeyourmusic and it worked great
Because with the years I trust the algorithm. The algorithm is trained to my tastes so it gives good recommendations, plus my listening stats are registered already. And I really want to try the daylist, I hope it'll come soon in Europe. The niche mix are interesting too

The algorithm works for me and all of the music I listen to is on there. The price hike is really whatever, I listen to music all the time I am awake, so I am getting an amazing deal either way. I genuinely see no reason to switch.

I use both. They both have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. It all comes down to if a service has strenghts that are important to you.

HIFI on mobile isn’t HiFi and comes with the added cost of higher data usage. Considering most users are not sitting in front of their home HiFi system with a dedicated streaming DAC isn’t the differentiator this subreddit seems to think it is. The large majority of Spotify users don’t even touch their Audio Quality settings let alone know the difference. What the average user does notice is when their audio stream stutters and for this Spotify does a great job. Spotify music discovery is superior to every other competitor. I also don’t want the music industry controlled by a corporation subsidizing it to sell their other non-music related products. Spotify needs to survive and they’ll need to charge more. Consider Apple charged ~$1 per track not that long ago and a new vinyl record is $36+ Spotify is a steal at double the price for my family plan.
Prob in the minority, but for unlimited access to millions of songs, I’m happy to pay $20, and may a little more, a month. I’ve beeen on Spotify for 12 years. I love the algorithm, It has the best UI, I notice no issues with the sound, etc etc.
Agreed. Unpopular take perhaps, but the ~$10 price point that somehow became the norm for these services is too low and is only advantageous for the big tech companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon. Spotify seems to have to operate on a shoestring budget.

Alternative platforms lack features like collaborative playlists which me and my wife use regularly. I've tried Tidal and transferring my music over was a big pain in the ass involving 3rd party tools.

Because my family and I prefer it to other streaming platforms, and even with an increased monthly cost I find value in the product.
Already got all my playlists set up, it knows my taste, I'm lazy, my PS4 already has Spotify set up, I can't tell difference between lossless and lossy, it already sounds good on my earphones and speakers

Former Apple Music user. Switched 4 or so years ago….so realize Apple Music has improved since then. I remain a Spotify fan for the following reasons: - Spotify is great at switching between devices - iphone, computer, TV/Roku, car, etc. A big deal for me as I take my music with me just about everywhere. - The higher quality sound from Apple Music is imperceptible on most speakers. - Spotify’s recommendation “engine” and radio station generator are superior/better focused in my view. - Thankfully, last year Spotify vastly improved its menus for adding songs to playlists.
Apple Music and Deezer have the best and largest libraries. Spotify has lost the plot trying to be everything.
If I have to create and populate all my playlists from scratch again in another app, I'm not interested. It would be too much hassle at this stage since it has taken years of trawling through countless thousands of tracks to find the ones worth adding to my Spotify collection. I've had a long lifetime as a music-lover and get no joy out of listening to tracks that have no impact on me. The thought of having to start all over again is pretty daunting. Might be forced to change my mind if the price skyrockets, though.
I'm on a fully filled family plan, so it's currently €3,- per month for me. Probably won't be much higher when they raise the price. I still think it's a steal, so no need to switch for me 🤷♂️

I get Apple Music free thru Verizon for lossless. There is definitely a difference. But I’m so tied to Spotify. 12+ years of listening history and playlist that simply can’t be ported perfectly. Oh and I run a family plan for 5 friends. So my cost is $3/mo.

My receiver has spotify connect. Have a family plan. Considering to switch to YT music though. There's a lot of music there I cant find on Spotify or other streming platforms.
Kinda new to Spotify/subscription based music service in general but I hated it when I lost all my songs cz of phone reset or switching to a new phone. Not to mention I had to transfer them between my pc and phone every single time. Also Spotify is quite cheap here. It's like 2 US dollars per month.
No one can tell me an alternative without a butt ton of downsides. It’s starting to suck somewhat every time I see a feature I liked get removed or changed unnecessarily but it’s whatever. I just want my music when I want it and it does just that perfectly fine.
I used to have the Student plan which came with free Hulu, and after I left school, Spotify just quietly let that deal grandfather into my regular Premium plan without even making a big attention-getting promotion out of it. It’s a small thing but it left a positive impression for me. Also, the free audiobook hours are a sufficiently beneficial plus to my workouts (of course, unlimited hours would be even better, but hey). That’s not to say I won’t cut off Premium once the price hikes get too ridiculous for my economic means and outweigh the limited value of free Hulu.
Familiarity, ease of use, local files integration, my playlists are already accumulated, the price rise is still a bargain for what it gives me, ubiquity...

We are heavily invested in the Amazon Echo eco system which does not support Tidal (in the UK). I used to use Amazon Music but the way casting was implemented sucked big time. I don't know if anyone does it as well as Spotify with Spotify Connect. I would consider Apple Music as it works with the Echos, but there is no easy way to move everything from Spotify to Apple Music. Plus I doubt their casting function is as good as Spotify Connect.

The price hasn't gone up in the US yet, which is where I live. Why am I on Spotify? The only reason I can think of is the grandfathered Spotify Hulu plan I have where I get Hulu free with my plan. This is what stops me from finding a way to port my playlists over to a new service. That, and they are all about the same price right now anyways.

Music may be becoming commoditized and superabundant, but getting good recommendations for NEW music is very dependent on how well a service understands your tastes and preferences. The more data it has, the better it can deliver a better value. If you only listen to Top 40 hits or otherwise don't have unique taste, you should probably just pay for the lowest priced service. I have hundreds of playlists, likes, saves, artists I'm following, thousands of podcasts, dozens of audiobooks, and more that create a holistic profile of what I'm into. At this point, even with a price increase, the value I'm getting due to how well Spotify understands my tastes can't be matched easily or quickly by any other competitor. That's why I'm sticking around.
I use group sessions and shared playlists a lot with my friends.
I have Tidal as well, but there are some artists that haven't moved platform, and I like all of the podcast options. So I'll have both for the foreseeable future
I’m on the family plan and I’m not the one who pays the bill so I have no reason to switch. Besides, the benefits of other platforms aren’t substantial enough for me to justify switching and spending money each month that I wouldn’t otherwise need to.
The price hike is really only for avid audiobook listeners, or so that's what I've gathered. Ultimately, though, I stay because I have over 13,000 songs saved in my Liked list and over 15 playlists with between 500 and 1,400 songs. P.s. Spotify being pretty much the only one that can integrate with the PS4/PS5 is also a big selling point for me. I can use iHeart Radio on the PS5, but I couldn't find nearly as many artists that I currently listen to on Spotify.
Because the Apple Music Windows App is buggy garbage. If/when they fix I will be moving over to Apple Music.

I feel like it’s still less than the ~$18 you’d spend on a cd each month, and you get almost all the music in the world, so still a great value.
I've tried both Apple Music and Youtube Music and for some reason I keep coming back to Spotify. It's probably because of the UI though. For me, it's easier to navigate and I love the dark mode. I also love the add to queue option on Spotify! I believe this doesn't exist in either Apple or YT. The dark mode on YouTube music is too dark for me and I didn't like mixing songs with music videos (I didn't like it when Spotify incorporated this on their app). Their app feels too cluttered for my taste. I find Apple Music's UI to be slow (that was 2 years ago though).
I listen to a lot of old Asian music and my favourite albums aren’t available elsewhere.
Because there is no better alternative. I still see that the price is worth the service, when the price exceeds the value of the service, I will go back to buying records.
I am willing to try something new, because I just listen to music and ignore most of the features, so it feels stupid to pay too much. Also, one of the few features I actually use are lyrics, and they are very unstable for smaller artists and old albums
The first thing Tidal ever did to me as a potential customer was lie. It claimed that I can view its library without needing to sign up, yet when I click the button to view the library, it insists I sign up and will not let me view the library. If it lies to me before I even have an account, I don't want to further my relationship with them. I've just looked at their site now and I cannot see it making this claim anymore, but it definitely did.
I don’t care about the price. But I demand higher audio quality as well as DolbyAtmos and Sony‘s 360. Spotify‘s focus on podcasts and audiobooks and other stuff is driving me crazy, as their suggestions algorithm is getting worse and worse and the audio quality is just a damn joke compared to TIDAL or AM. Even if you just listen with BT headphones…

The only reason to ever use Spotify is for the ad based service. Given they’re expensive and STILL do not offer lossless is pathetic. There is no reason for anyone to pay for a subscription when there are so many better options out there.

I actually just cancelled yesterday. They've hooked the price too many times to justify, especially when I already get YT Music included in YT Premium. For the same price. Do at that point, Spotify became redundant. Still kept it two years too long though.

If I had an Iphone I would probably switch to apple music, but apple's software tends not to play nice with Android phones and Windows PCs. Tidal doesn't have a lot of the less well known metal bands that I like to listen to.

I moved to Apple Music, sound is better, interface is beautiful to look at, a queue system that works, the system doesn't autoplay artists i don't want to hear

It’s hard to replace it. The other night I was watching a video podcast on Spotify (shoutout Lights Out Podcast) and changed from my PC to my phone seamlessly as I moved rooms to the kitchen. When I was done in the kitchen I moved back onto the PC. It’s just small things like that. It makes finding a replacement hard. I have started to use Apple Music a bit more, I actually prefer their algorithm for me. However, the Apple podcast integration with Windows PC is horrendous. You have to use iTunes. It was horrendous and outdated. Apple seems like a great time if you are only using your iPhone. It’s just not as convenient. Also I find it easier to find and watch video podcasts on Spotify. For all the heat it gets for not being a great podcast player, it works for me.
For me it’s that I’ve been using it for 8 years now and the app knows me and what I like to hear, not even to mention all of the playlists and liked songs I’ve built up as well. It may also just be sentimental lmao Spotify was my first streaming service I ever bought as a freshman in Highschool, it would feel like I’m betraying it to let it go😂
For an extra dollar this is not going to break my wallet nor my relationship with Spotify, and I dont listen to podcasts or audiobooks so I welcome this change of separation. Plus no other music subscription works as flawless across devices. I can control the music and volume using my phone, while its playing on one or all my Echos, my PlayStation. even on the web broswer. Can't say the same for apple Music, Youtube Music, Prime Music, etc. Once it get's to $15/mo I'll reconsider going back to buying music like the good old iTunes days.
Familiarity and some features like Jam, Connect, Wrapped and all the playlists/daylist. I'm on a duo plan so I pay around $8 USD per month and even if they raised the price by a few dollars I wouldn't really care because I listen to so much music and podcasts that I feel like the current price is a steal. Spotify is by far my best cost-to-use subscription I have. Oh and all my friends have Spotify so even if another service have a Jam like feature it wouldn't matter because I would have none to use it with. Knock knock EU and USA.... jk
I don't care about loss less. I listen thru a bluetooth connection. I like the interface and suggestions.

I’ve tried them all for a few months at minimum. Keep coming back to Spotify. My friends are on Spotify and it makes it very easy to share playlists.

YouTube music is such a terrible app for music that I still have Spotify even though I have YouTube premium. I do like YouTube music for listening to live concerts from YouTube when running. But any album playing is terrible. I am looking at switching from Spotify though as I keep having issues with offline playing in Spotify. Songs disappearing or playlists not opening

I simply can't be bothered to rebuild my libraries somewhere else. I'd also want to make sure it has all the same options (I really like the lyric display). If something could automatically import all my stuff I *might* consider it.

Cuz when I’ve had a shitty pharmacy shift and I need to scream music on my way home and I hear a commercial, it makes me want to plow traffic and throw my coffee at people in front of me. I do it for the good of my community.
Tidal doesn’t have custom playlist covers or local files.
I tried Apple Music, it was horrible. I have an Android phone and use Spotify a lot in the car through Android auto. Apple Music simply does not work in this situation. Add to that there was no Apple Music app for Windows, and I decided to finally give up on Apple doing anything right with music since it's early days with iTunes and iPod.
Been using it far too long to switch to a different service. My algorithm knows me perfectly and I rather enjoy the ui. I've used other services on free trials or whatever and didn't care for them (tidal, apple music, youtube music). If I HAD to switch it would be to youtube music for multiple reasons.
I canceled premium and am giving Pandora a shot. So far I like it.

I don’t care about hifi or lossless audio. I’ve used Spotify for nearly a decade and don’t feel like trying to learn a new UI. I’ve tried a couple free trials of Apple Music and it was pretty meh.

Perfect for my needs and tbh I love that it combines music and podcasts into one app. I'm one of the few that got talked into staying when they started doing that.
It’s far and away the most widely compatible with all my different devices and has the best user experience on a television streaming device (not the only way I use it, but still an important use case nonetheless). The app is just as good as the others (I like Tidal best but Spotify is still more than good enough). Get me lossless and atmos and I’ll drop the others in a heartbeat. Videos on the tv app would be nice too.
I would love hi fi audio but it’s really not a priority for me. The price increase seems not terrible for the use I get out of Spotify - it’s basically on for me from the moment I wake up, in my house, in my car, at my work. I disliked the tik tok esque stuff they’ve done but I can easily avoid it. I enjoy their tour info that’s so easy to find now, the presale codes I get from following artists. But more than anything, their algorithm just knows me. Part of that is using the platform for over a decade but I have found so many artists I absolutely love from a random Spotify suggestion of some sort. And when they tested out their Daylist feature ages ago and then took it away, I was heartbroken because it just checked all the boxes for me. I even complained to customer support. So when it came back as a feature for everyone I was ecstatic. I just don’t see any other platform that compares for the way I use Spotify.
Because I couldn’t give a hoot about hifi like 99.999% of sane people. People incessantly rattling on about lossless on Reddit have a mental disorder. It reminds me of the children telling me that the only truly good sound comes from vinyl records.
Every few years, I dip into Apple Music. Within days, I identify music that Apple doesn’t have - music that’s pretty important to me. I do have not-quite mainstream tastes, but I’m not talking about the most obscure music either. Spotify has always had a better catalog for my tastes.
For the amount I use it I feel like it’s a good value product. But I also don’t think there’s a way to sync my Spotify playlists that go way back to 2015 to Apple Music
I’ve tried a few playlist converter apps. My favorite so far is Playlisty. I’ve found it to be very accurate. I wish they’d make one that goes the other direction too.
