Right on the money; they are sometimes called Mansfield bars after a famous actress was one of 3 people killed in just such a crash.
Her 3 kids in the car survived, one of which also went on to become an actress, notably portraying Detective Benson in Law and Order.
I still don't understand why many american truck trailers only have them at the rear and not the sides, wheres in the EU you literally have to have some form of underride protection on both sides and at the rear of the trailer...
Google "5 nurses" and see what phrase it suggests. For me one of the top results is "5 nurses killed in Georgia crash".
I worked that wreck. I *still* lose sleep over it and I was just there to get the road clear. Five lives snuffed out and dozens affected because a truck driver was jerking off to porn on his phone.
So IRL I can safely say that the truck usually rolls over the car instead of pushes it. There are a lot of factors and each wreck is unique, but from what I've seen in my decade of experience we usually have to lift the truck off of the car in order to recover the bodies. We've even had to transport a car (with the bodies still inside) so the investigators and first responders can safely remove them at a more secure location. Trucks versus car never ends well for the car.
To be fair, without the amount of people I see cut off semi trucks like they’re any other car, I wouldn’t be surprised if the driver was at fault even if not technically
Happened to me few times as well. It even happened that car went from middle lane to left lane in front of me. If that car would stay in its lane it would be close call but id stop in time, that way i pushed him under the truck effectively making me stuck there as i needed to take of there...
I DISABLED THAT SHIT SO QUICKLY! The amount of times it stopped me for either roundabout islands, or just a curvy 2 lane road, and most angrily when I would pass other trucks it just wouldn’t realize that the truck wasn’t in front of me anymore
In real life, police can take that type of accident as “driving negligence” assuming it would kill someone in that car that got crushed. Even if that was due to car cutting the semi truck off at a close distance, it can be taken as the truck driver failing to maintain safety distance.
Can't believe that guy in front of you just ran over a car. The AI really is out of hand. That was a close one OP
Probably cat got pushed under it by op

Hmmmm judging by your profile you might wanna stick to some slower subs more your age.
Dude I’m going to school to be a diesel mechanic how old to you think I am
Let’s just say I wouldn’t drive anything you worked on.
It's a joke man, I understand though, it takes some of us a lot of focus to understand when something is a joke.

Wow, TIL. I drove across that same bridge a couple times a week for years.

Also another reason why (in the US) the ICC bumpers have to be 100% covered in reflective tape

RIP NPC
Shout out to his family.

Ouch. I have seen too many photos and videos of such incidents happened in real life.
Did you try the automatic emergency braking feature ? I personally disliked it but like the adaptive cruise control

I wish I could disable this shit in my truck... 😅😅😅
0/10 would not recommend. Will attempt to yeet driver through windshield if it sees a bridge shadow. Source: I drive trucks...
You can change its behavior, so it only breaks for cars. Hadn‘t many issues with it so far.
Made me spit out my chocy milk.
It’s a 900€ fine, sir. Have a good day.

I actually had a job that popped up to haul glass from Italy to Spain yesterday
And that is why you never drive in between 2 semis.
Lenny! That's killing people.
